We were in Tuscaloosa for the day and made a random reservation. We were almost the only people there because it was Spring Break. Friendly staff. Food pretty good.
I have eaten at this restaurant several time due to it's convenient location and being able to make reservations. It has never lived up to my expectations. this will be my last time.
Very loud. Some of the food was just ok.
The service was excellent;however, it was disappointing that the available menu had changed dramatically from the menu listed online. The fried oysters were excellent! The shrimp and grits were not the traditional shrimp and grits. I would give the restaurant another try.
We have been there many times and have always ha a good meal and good service. Roll Tide!
First time to try this restaurant and left severely disappointed. Service was so bad they didn’t even charge me for dinner. Had to go to bar to get my own drinks. When my food finally arrived it was cold. Manager did everything she could to recover but the dinner was a failure. Great looking spot and only place in town that uses OpenTable. Won’t try again.
Excellent service and food !
Despite being very busy for Valentine's Day, the food was prepared well and served in a timely manner. The staff seemed well trained and organized. Pleasant experience!
Great as always!
Excellent—I’ve never had a bad meal there.
Food was excellent. Third time visiting side by side, always great food. Did run into multiple beverage choices being unavailable. All in all a good visit.
Food is excellent! I ate here 3 times in 24 hours. First I had dinner with my local friends, then lunch the next day by myself and finally dinner at the bar, also by myself. The young waitress on the first night of dining with my friends was a bit stiff. She would come back to the table about once every five minutes during our three hour dinner and ask how everything was, disrupting our dining and conversation. When presenting the menu items that she served to us, she would spend ten minutes describing what we were about to eat and said it was one of her favorites when she was describing every dish we ordered. We were polite and listened, but by the time she left our table our food was luke warm or cold. Plus, although she was quite attractive, she never smiled. I began to think she was an artificial intelligence robot with a malfunction in her system. The bartenders, on the other hand, the young black girl at lunch, and the two young men at dinner were much better and less obtrusive, they were efficient and friendly and even smiled. All in all, the food was excellent, most of the staff was well trained, and the ambience was pleasant. I'll definitely dine here every time I visit Tuscloosa.
The staff at Side by Side were wonderful! They helped make my husband's birthday very special! They brought him a dessert with a lit candle and even took an instant photo of the 2 of us, placed it in a happy birthday card and the whole staff signed it! Will definitely be returning!
The service was very slow in general. In addition, the chef forgot having the dessert ready; and the waiter had to remind him. The food itself was excellent, however.
We came in for graduation and expected Brunch - for some reason the chef decided to only offer the dinner menu on a Sunday morning. I was upset that no one told us this when I called to confirm. I didn’t want Salmon at 11 am and there wasn’t an egg on the menu. The manager agreed to offer egg meals to our table which I appreciated and the service was very good. In the future offer Brunch at Brunch Time - don’t switch to the more expensive dinner menu just to try to make a buck.
We were there to celebrate my sons college graduation. We all enjoyed the food, the service was great and the atmosphere was good. Would definable recommend.
We went for my daughter's birthday. By FAR the best restaurant in Tuscaloosa. Every dish was delicious and our server was wonderful. Highly recommend!
The food was good, but I felt it was too pricey for what you receive.
This place isn’t bad just not anything to rave about for the money. I felt the wine selection was lacking not and my fathers steak came out cooked not the way he asked. He ordered medium well (yes he butchered a good steak) however it came out rare with the waiter agreeing. It was sent back but by the time it came back 15 minutes later, we were well into our meal ( the rest of us ordered fish). The fish was fine, but again nothing special .
Best place in Tuscaloosa
Service was good and professional and good was great.
Side by Side was had a great farm to table menu. Everything that we got was excellent! The service was very good. There were some loud college students eating near us, but we were there on a game day. Any other night would most likely be quieter. Overall it was a great place to eat.
Best all around dining experience in Tuscaloosa. Good food, good service, lovely atmosphere.
This was one of our favorite meals at Side by Side! The brunch menu is filled with great options! Our server was delightful and on-the-spot with this visit, however, we typically find that we need to allow a generous amount of time to get in and out of here. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing to take time to enjoy your meal - or tapas - or drinks...just plan to sit and enjoy and don't be in a hurry (which is why I don't recommend it for lunch). There was a nice crowd at this visit, but not so crowded that we couldn't move about and enjoy ourselves. Great experience!
Very nice restaurant and I think the only on OpenTable in Tuscaloosa. It's pricey but a very nice place. Can be loud if that's ok but you need to know.
Disappointing. Wait staff on a Sunday night was weak and not very professional. Food was good but not great. Missing several menu items, too. But, hey, it was Sunday night and they were open at least....
Only Tuscaloosa restaurant on open table do we decided to give it a try, glad we did! Beautiful place but a it was a perfect evening to sit outside. Great service, excellent salads (butter lettuce with honey vinaigrette was awesome), and flavorful steaks. We will be back on our next college visit.
We were seated as soon as we arrived but waited 20 minutes for a server which we had to ask for. The food we ordered all arrived at the same time.. They wanted to then clear our plates away before we were finished eating. Overall a disappointing experience.
This is my first negative review. I was so surprised by the low level of service and food quality ... especially for the price. Can't imagine going again when next I visit my daughter at school.
We went here before a late Alabama game. Everything was delicious. We definitely come back!
The worst meal service I have had in many years ! Horribly disappointing !
You need to expect loud and crowded game weekends.
Overall, we had an enjoyable dinner experience with a few hiccups, and I would recommend this restaurant -- but on a night that is not too busy. We were there on an extremely busy night, but with a reservation. We were seated quickly upon arrival. The ambiance was great -- lively and festive. The gnocchi appetizer was delicious but had a very creamy soup consistency (not a good one to share -- keep this one for yourself only) The best plates were: The butter lettuce salad (delicious dressing), the seared tuna, and the Casarecce Pasta. These were all excellent.
Excellent food and service to match. Steaks were cooked to order and seafood was fresh from the gulf. Will definitely return.
Wonderful food and ambiance. Took my sister for her birthday and it was a lovely experience from start to finish. Unique food, amazing flavors, attentive but not pushy staff, and an enjoyable environment. Would absolutely recommend for a romantic evening or special event. Try the crawfish gnocchi. You will not be disappointed, promise.
It was great. Our server, Kelly, is incredible! Roll Tide!
The food was just so, so. I had eaten at Chef Hastings restaurants before and was disappointed. The facility was the nice and bar had good drinks but there was not an upscale liquor list. If this is the premier restaurant in Tuscaloosa then there is not one!
Slow service, great Bloody Mary fixins bar but the house made Bloody Marry mix needs a good bit of help.
We sat outside next to the toasty chiminea on a cool evening. It was lovely. The manager, Patrick is so professional. Always makes us feel like valued guests, taking the time to check on us and make sure we are happy. Our server was friendly, attentive; our water glasses never got half empty and she made sure anything we wanted was promptly brought to our table. We have been to Side by Side several times now and are always glad we chose to dine there. Inside has a very cool vibe with large round tables that comfortably seat at least six, and an L shaped bar with flat screens if you care to watch a game while enjoying a crafty cocktail. The food is always great. We asked for blackened Salmon rather than the one offered on the menu, and it was excellent. It is also Faroe Island Salmon, the highest quality you can get! Salads and veggies have farm to table freshness you can taste.
