Good food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.
Felt safe.
Lovely staff and food, felt so festive and safe during covid restrictions - we will be returning ASAP
Staff good, food very overpriced for what is essentially a pub. Wine also very expensive. I’m sure had we gone for something simple on the menu it would have been fine however we went for the steak and plaice and these were not good enough for the price charged
Pretty average pub food, under seasoned bland main course.
A pity because it’s a nice pub with friendly staff but the food could do with some improvement.
Lovely food as always live in Rye and love the food hear for special occasions
Six of us including two dogs had a lovely Sunday roast. Food was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return. Very clean and covid compliant.
The Sunday roast was delicious....especially the nut roast.
The staff very friendly.
All Covid secure and felt very safe.
Hope to be back soon.
Relaxed atmosphere. Good food and great service. Cosy
Great pub. Dog and family friendly. Visited with my 2 boys and the kids menu was a hit. Good value for money. Staff were excellent.
We went for my birthday lunch, on arrival I was offered a complementary glass of bubbles for my birthday. The food was very good, the staff attentive we will definitely return.
I had booked the wrong number of people but they were kind enough to fit us in and the waiter was great but the lady at the entrance was very surly and we didn’t feel welcome at all. Lucky that we only saw her at the start and end of the meal so the overall impression was good and the food was decent and wine fantastic. Good location too.
Very good food, and friendly service. Working with the Covid-19 restrictions the service is very good.
Cosy pub. Good food. We’ll set up for social distancing.
Excellent food, great service in a lovely pub! Will definitely be back :)
Amazing! Despite arriving 30 minutes late for our booking (we did call to apologise and let them know), we were made to feel so welcome and were not rushed once (even though it was so busy). The food was delicious (they had sold out of some of our choices but that didn’t matter because there was so much to choose from) and the staff were fantastic and so friendly (even when having to deal with other guests who choose to ignore Government guidelines and get stroppy when they are reminded of them!).
Also a completely dog friendly restaurant. Our pooch was super happy too. We had a fab afternoon.
Given the pandemic, the staff were excellent, it's just the overpriced room that disappointed. £145 a night for a room with a very firm bed, paint peeling off the walls in the bathroom, an ill-fitting shower curtain that ensures a flooded floor every time, a showerhead that won't stay in place that kept sliding to the bottom, and a droopy bedside light. We saw into another £145 a night room that had a lovely timbered beam cutting across it, but... we'd have had to have ducked our heads every time we went in and out the room and every time we went to the bathroom, and it made it feel a lot smaller.
Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent food and we were right by the fire so the ambience was great!
Hardworking staff and a very nice meal. The dining arrangements puts a strain on staff but they were very attentive and polite.
The good was excellent, felt safe with the Covid19 measures they have in place.
Still a nice cosy pub while sticking to the Covid rules.
Good choices of seasonal foods without having too much on the menu!
Service was excellent!
Excellent Inn with great food and drinks. One of our favourite places in Rye. Service was excellent and very spaced out and organised for Covid times.
Lovely meal thank you . I had the roast chicken my mum had the fish and chips
Was delighted with the Sunday roast. It was superb. Service was excellent
Food was great, staff were fantastic - and very patient with some stroppy blokes re. masks/NHS app/etc!
Great local pub. Service was good and food very tasty. Recommend booking in advance as popular!
We loved it here. The service was efficient and very friendly (despite us making some mistakes!), they saved our table as we arrived late after long journeys to Rye and the food was good. What more could you ask for? A lovely place, highly recommend it :)
It did what it said on the tin! Food good and we felt covid measures were taken seriously. Staff friendly. I'm sure in normal circumstances when it is full the atmosphere is a bit more lively.
The first thing that strikes you is the supreme effort that the Ship team (ship mates) have gone to in compliance with C19 distance spacing requirements. A great number of tables have been removed to provide the open spaces seen in the photo. Also only 2 staff on the floor working continually and efficiently. A well signposted and totally separate entrance and exit. Tables were immediately throughly cleaned as soon as each client left. This undoubtedly contributed greatly to make the ship a place for such a relaxed and safe feeling evening. The food is good, well cokked comfort food, nicely presented, and nothing was too much trouble for the team.. No rush for the table back, and a nice way to spend the evening.
Overall not too bad , but my partner felt that the Thai Green Curry was laking substance for the cost charged ..
No evidence of the Government VAT reduction to 5% being reflected on menu prices or shown on the bill !!
If you like good quality pub food this is a good place to go. There is nothing flamboyant about the menu but it is all well done. The atmosphere is nice and if like me you are into your beers then this place brews its own and it is excellent. Highly recommend Rye and this pub in Rye (and also Rye Lodge if you are looking for an hotel)
They made the experience lovely despite being in masks etc
My daughter and I had a very nice evening here, the food was delicious especially the cod! I would definitely recommend
Very accommodating staff as we arrived early in a downpour. Food was great, a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Lovely inn, great food and excellent service. Thanks for making our weekend in Rye lovely.
Good food, great service, ambience was a bit lacking but only because of strict Covid restrictions in place meant it was a bit empty.
As covid measures are now so important it was great to see really well distanced tables and’ very detailed measures to keep everyone safe. Delicious veggie burger and really unpretentious friendly service. Had a great evening, thanks.
The food was delicious. But there was no coronavirus awareness, other than giving my contact details on arrival. The staff were not wearing masks and customers were instructed to go to the bar to place their food and drink orders, which meant customers wondering about. Under guidelines there should be table service.
Have been on our own twice before and had a good meal. This time we took friends, one of whom is blind. We all enjoyed our meal and tasted the new menu of which our main course included venison. This was cooked to a high standard together with the respective veg. The dessert was also very well accepted and which all looked good.
We highly recommend this Inn for its service and Covid arrangements. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We were seated at our table, told to choose from the menu, and to order our choice at the counter along with drinks. Thought it was table service at the moment. The menu was very very limited, but was made more limited by having choices crossed through. Only had soup as nothing else was suitable. Ask if they could do Ham egg and chips, and was told No only what’s on the menu. Overpriced also. Very poor
Fantastic food and lovely place to eat, rustic pub with lots of atmosphere. Staff very welcoming.
