Extraordinary charming setting perfect for families and dogs. Service and food were exceptional. A must return.
One of my favourite pubs ever! Magical location, great service and what’s most important the food is delicious.
Amazing food, service and ambience considering we were just about to go into tier 4 restrictions. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back once they can reopen.
Enjoyed and absolutely delicious meal on Xmas eve at lunchtime after a lovely walk. I had the most amazing pie with gravy that was like liquid heaven. My wife had plaice which looked equally nice and the kids had tapas that they really enjoyed. Service was a tiny bit slow but otherwise we really enjoyed it even sitting outside in woolly hats and coats - recommended 👍
Idyllic cosy country pub nestled under the Downs. Great staff and delicious food - one of my absolute favourites
Lovely country pub with a nice atmosphere and good food.
A charming, relaxing atmosphere!
The food was beautiful and the waiter was fantastic and very patient with my date 🙄
Thank you ever so much 🧚🏼🎄
Lovely traditional country pub. Most helpful and welcoming staff. Fabulous and delicious food, well worth a visit.
Lovely roast Sunday lunch. Lovely little country pub with a few outside covered dining tables. Delicious food, good vegetarian options and great service. Social distancing managed really well by the very friendly and efficient staff.
Sunday roast was delicious. 😋
This cosy pub was recommended to us by one of our friends but we never managed to get a booking before as it is always fully booked.
It has a great Christmassy wintery atmosphere and the food is simply outstanding. The waitress was also very friendly and polite.
Always love it here. Super nice waiter/manager? Super food. Perfect
Excellent in almost every respect. SOMEBODY is trying hard. Charming staff. My advice to chef would be to keep it more simple. Cauliflower's great, but does not need a complicated sauce. Your house white should not just be acidic plonk. We know what we are getting. A basket of free bread, gratis, would make a big difference. As they do in France. It's not going to break the bank. Full marks to staff. The menu is superbly conceived. Just what Brits want. My partner was served a minuscule portion of plaice. Excellent, but meager. Far better to pan-fry a large plaice in butter with minimal accompaniments. I'd thoroughly recommend S & D to anyone. Thanks.
The food was really awful. Poorly conceived, really badly cooked and tasteless. Yet priced the same as a good quality gastro pub. Shockingly bad I'm afraid. Nice setting for a drink, but will definitely not eat there again.
Lovely roast, would have liked a bit more of a Christmas menu but the staff and service was great
Great service with friendly staff. Sunday roast was delicious. Melt in the mouth lamb, crispy roasties.
Sunday roasts are the best in the area
in fact all there food is amazing
Massively let down, I was not given option on whether I would be dining in main bar or draughty conservatory/barn area. For £18 per roast lamb I would expect a much better cut of meat. A shame as I love the pub but I wont rush back to eat.
Amazing pub, great location.
Staff are wonderful and the food is stunning!
The ambiance was so cosy and with all the Christmas decorations it was just a perfect Sunday roast. The food was very nice and tasty. The staff was very nice and welcoming too. I highly recommend this lovely countryside pub :-)
An outstanding meal. Every ingredient, even the bread, was home made and memorable. Both quality and taste of the food was outstanding. Staff were efficient and sociable. A great experience which my wife and I look forward to repeating.
Our table needed to be wiped down when we were sat as there was food crumbs on the table. Also, water glasses already on table, makes you question if they are replaced when they are not used to protect from covid. Would prefer them to come with the water. We were asked to order a couple times very quickly after sat down. Lost that value and experience factor now where its obvious they want you in and out quite quickly. Food lovely as always and so are the staff.
A fabulous roast with melt in the mouth beef and pleasant staff.
I’ve had a fabulous time every time I’ve been to this pub. Great food but even more special is the fantastic service and friendly attentive staff :-)
This is a pub that we’ve been to occasionally over the years, when we’ve been passing. The food this time was probably the best we’ve had here. (Last visited probably 3-4 years ago).
Service was nice and relaxed and the fire made it cosy and inviting. Pity there was no mulled wine
Very good atmoshere and a good range of food, and local beers. Staff were very attentive. Menu had enough variety to suit most tastes and diets. Not the cheapest place though, but I would go again.
The service was rather chaotic although the staff were pleasant. Some people who came after us were served their food before we even had orders taken! Food was mistakenly brought to us before we had eaten which had been ordered by others present.
We had ordered a light lunch as a joint starter but the mains arrived before the starter. When the starter was brought, some chips ordered as a side with the main, came at the same time.
The food was good and the waitress did not take umbrage at our protestations about food arriving in such a chaotic way so we left more satisfied with things than we were 15 minutes after arriving.
Excellent welcome, plenty of space between tables due to Covid.
The service was very attentionate and the food was delicious. The Pie of the Day was incredible! ANd the choice of ales was also great.
Hihgly recommended.
Sunday roast was delicious. The staff was very friendly and I must mention Herry the assistant manager was very helpful he does his job very well .
Very nice food- best pub roast ive ever had! Book well in advance
The best roast we have ever eaten in a pub. We both had the roast pork which was to die for! Where did you get that meat??? Just a shame we have to drive as we could have stayed all afternoon. Thank you all
food was excellent as usual,
My only feedback would be the dessert menu was limited I really wanted a sticky toffee pudding or brownie.
The food was great and though service started well, it trailed off during the evening. We would go back!
A flash menu but not the best quality for the price
Quirky old pub with good atmosphere. Doing their best under COVID restrictions. Food good though not much choice, especially for vegetarians.. Set with the beautiful Downs as a backdrop, stunning in Autumn. Worth a run for the view on the way. Would recommend.
Super tasty pub grub - I had the lamb pie and it was delicious! My partner really enjoyed his burger too. We were in the little barn extension and it felt a bit separate from the rest of the pub, but other than that, excellent!
Food was delicious and service brilliant. Chips not so crispy but still great
Our food was very tasty, fresh and delicious.
Service was professional, courteous and efficient.
Looking forward to going back.
Average food - burger was burnt. Nice beers available and service is good
Disappointed that we sat in the annex. But it was busy and we should have accounted for half term. The amount of children at various tables also meant that the noise levels were higher than i would have liked. Couldn't fault the food or drinks menu, although perhaps a second waiter/waitress would have help as the tables in the annex seemed fully booked.
