About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
Beautiful restaurant with stunning Derwent River & vineyard views.
The original Shed was built on the Mt Nassau property in the early 1900's and met with it's demise in the 1967 bushfires. Built to replace the original Sheds were a Tractor and Shearing shed.
In 2021 work began on "The Shed" Restaurant which has been built in the exact same footprint as the original Sheds and some of the wood from the old Shed were used to make the table bases.
With our incredible head Chef Andrew Russell and our Restaurant Manager Jessica Johnson leading our team of wine and food experts, there is no better spot to sit and enjoy an amazing meal with awards winning wine.

Our first time at The Shed and chosen as they pride themselves on using local fresh produce and we are local, so wanted to give it a go. The Shed provided a fantastic venue. Plenty of room on the table and around you so it didn't feel so "squeezed in" which seems to be the thing these days. You could hear each other talking which was nice. It was cozy on a cold day and the views amazing! The service was absolutely fantastic. A great team who are happy to be there and know what their role is and know the food they are serving - The wait staff were exceptional! The food was beautiful! Shut your eyes and enjoy exceptional and perfect for a lunch time date, but I have to say that the menu descriptions were confusing. One of our invited guests didn't end up coming because he viewed the menu and said there was nothing he would have eaten, but knowing what he likes there would have been... the descriptions were just too ostentatious. Another example of this was my brother ordered the Koji Hanger Steak and it was a cold "salad type" dish and not what he was expecting based on the menu description. Maybe the menu descriptions include hot or cold dish or are a little more basic in the detail so that it covers it? Yes we do go out to restaurants regularly and I'm a bit of a foody, so this isn't coming from a place of "local" ignorance or stupidity. I had the Pork Belly and it was absolutely beautiful and fine for lunch, but would have been disappointed with the size of the serve and price if that was ordered for dinner. I think for $40 it could have been a little more than 5 X 4cm X 2cm pieces of Pork Belly on a little pickled vegetables. Beautiful but not value for money. This carried through to the amazing desert, an apple crumble tart. A finger size portion for $16 felt a little "high end". The food was beautiful and enjoyed, but I feel it wasn't value for money and BIG eaters or those that enjoy their food and look for decent serving sizes will be left wanting.

The best restaurant in Hobart region by far. The Food is exceptional and well presented, the 12-hour Dorper lamb shoulder is amazing. The staff are friendly and professional, adds to the experience. The ambience with a stunning view over the Derwent completes the magic experience. Highly recommended!

Great choices and well paired accompaniments. Their Pinot Gris was the perfect wine with all 4 meal selections.

Beautiful location within the winery with a lovely outlook towards the river, historical old white house and vineyards on the other side. We had the sourdough bread (excellent), the arancini, the grilled octopus and the lamb shoulder (outstanding). Accompnied with enjoyable wines, we would definitely recommend this venue.
