The Sea Grill Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant switched to a price fix menu for Saturday. I get that it's the holiday season, but $125 pp for three course meal was total non-sense. Should have been notified of the menu format beforehand. Also, if you are not seated near the rink - our seat was near the windows looking into the underground subway passage, it makes for an absolutely horrible dining experience. I used to recommend this restaurant for visitors to NYC and for business dinners but I never will again. Utter rip off tactics.
This was our 2nd visit to the Sea Grill and we were just as impressed as the last time. The food was outstanding We started with 2 different sushi rolls. Both were prepared as well as any sushi location in NYC we’ve visited. For dinner we had the crab cakes (signature dish) and the filet mignon. We finished with the Nutella ganache and the apple tart. Watching people skate on Rockefeller Ice is also a fun way to people watch.
I made a lunch reservation a week in advance at the Sea Grill in NYC and asked for a specific table and was told the table was not available when we arrived ...ok that can happen but very disappointing when you reserve so far in advance.
We ordered and had soup as an appetizer, the soup was good.
Then an excessively long wait, close to an hour for the main course which was crab cakes for me and salmon for my date. While it was a busy day they obviously knew it would be a busy day well in advance and should have been staffed to handle the volume, being busy is not an excuse for such a wait. When the food finally arrived the salmon was obviously something that was over cooked dried out and had been left sitting around, the crab cakes I was given were much the same and worse than I would expect at a fast food place. Dreadful. Bad all the way around.
Then I was given the check and when I looked at it closely I saw that I was overcharged nearly 50% over what the actual charge should have been, when I questioned the waiter the response was “oh sorry” I charged you the wrong prices. No kidding Really?
Even when the check was corrected the cost was ridiculous for what was provided. I don’t mind paying top dollar for good food but this was a horrible experience and they could have cared less.
When you look at the other reviews out there for this restaurant you see many excellent reviews, I wonder if all those reviews you see there are legitimate? Given my experience my opinion would be they are suspicious.
After this experience I will likely never go back to this restaurant it was just awful.
Soup not hot . Fish good . Overpriced for what u receive . However , being in same business 40 years ; I understand I’m paying for view ! However , I was not told it was priced fix . Told waiter & told me we could order off regular menu ! Service was great & tipped him 25% Arthur
This is the place to be if you want to see the tree and ice skating at Rockefeller center during the holidays. The food is very good but the over crowded tight restaurant can be annoying if you are not ready for it. During the holiday season the service does suffer with no fault of the service staff but still very professional.
Wine list is average and could be better for a restaurant of this caliber. Try going there after the holidays and you will have a better time. We do go every christmas season as well as during the year and have always enjoyed it so matter the crowds.
It was my fiancé and my first time ever, and all I can say is WOW! We had an amazing experience and it started as soon as we walked in the door..we were greated by two very pleasant hostesses who informed us that our table would be right next to the window so we can see the tree! Unfortunately I do not remember our servers name, but he was so friendly and attentive..we ate from the holiday menu but we were able to add additional item that we were craving! Everything was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for making our anniversary/birthday dinner a memorable one.
My husband and I would not recommend this restaurant at all. We eat out quiet a bit and have gone to some very nice restaurants. The food was mediocre at best and when we were there it was a set three course menu you had to choose from... for 125 dollars each plus drinks..my husband and I are not desert eaters so the last
Course we didn't even have.. I had the crab cakes for an app.. which consisted of one crab cake, my
Husband had the seafood chowder and for dinner I had the lobster which was a bit tuff my husband had a seafood dish.. no salads no vegetable .. one slice of bread each was brought to the table before dinner and that was it. My husband had two beers and I had a vodka and soda.. needless to say we paid way to much for hardly any food.. almost 400 dollars and service was not great either. It's worth it at all. I would have preferred eating somewhere else and spending the money shopping. To top
It off o was sick when o got
Back to our room. a tourest trap for sure. We should have known better..that's what hurts the most we don't usually.
Dined on Friday December 1 in order to enjoy Rock Center ambiance at Xmas time. Only dinner option during December is $125 prix-fixe for 3 courses. It’s pricey for what you get, but given the holiday season and view of the skating rink it is tolerable. Our appetizers and desserts were both quite good. Spanish Dover sole was outstanding but short ribs were a huge disappointment as they were extremely fatty. Given the price tag for dinner, the short ribs we received were unacceptable. Also, coffee and tea should have been included instead of being extra. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening with a good view of the skating rink. One tip—avoid getting seated near the high top tables by the bar because it gets quite noisy.
My food came out cold. Hardly any taste..no sides. For 5 of us bill was over $600 and I only had 3 adults with me, 2 children. I booked the reservation a month out and they had tons of seats open to give us a window seat to see the rink but they wouldn’t let us sit there and the entire time no one sat there and we were done. Very disappointed and would never go back.
We took my SO's (octogenarian) parents and her youngest sister to the Sea Grill so they could watch the skaters at Rockefeller rink while enjoying a great meal. The service was impeccable; the food was awesome; and--although no one could have planned it--a young man proposed to his intended wife on the rink while we ate. I think she said yes. If not, he loved her enough to kiss her anyway. All together it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that impressed heck out of her mom and dad--not to mention baby sis.
We had been there twice before, so we knew to expect greatness. They delivered in spades.
We brought my SO's service dog. After a few confused moments, the staff were most welcoming. The dog slept under the table, content to know that her handler was in good hands.
I would highly recommend. I was suprised though that when open table asked the occasion and I put 10th anniversary (and we mentioned to our waiter and the person that sat us), all we got was a ‘happy anniversary’ from the staff. At a high end restaurant such as this, I expected more, like at restaurant Daniel, we got our desert with the words ‘happy anniversary’ written on the plate for our one year. I thought that was very odd coming from a restaurant that charges $80 pp for a lunch prix fix.
