The Sea Grill Ratings and Reviews
Booked the Sea Grill for Valentine's Day Dinner. Prefixed menu included a 3-course meal with options to add on extras along the way. Definitely want to come back to try the regular menu. This place did well in their seafood offerings, the tastes were enjoyable. The service was stellar and representative the experience and caliber of a finer dining experience. Overlooking the Rockefeller Center ice skating rink was a delight and the ambiance of the restaurant was romantic and neat. While they are versed in seafood dishes, the dessert left a lot to be desired. Overall, I would recommend. Skip the dessert and you'll walk away having a fabulous experience.
For this special Mardi Gras dinner the food was interesting and good, but the service was a bit sloppy. Although servers passed me with trays of rolls and bread to bring to other tables, no one served me until I asked for some. In the four-course meal, I was served the first course, then the third course (entree); when that was finished, my waiter realized I'd never received my second course, so he brought it then! This is most unusual for this excellent restaurant; I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
The meal and wine was amazing but some People of the Service Team need more Education.
The courses were served too fast and it feels like you get rushed. A bit more time between the courses would be nice or a short question if you would like the next course.
We came for restaurant week. The food was outstanding. We were a party of six, and we all came a little early so that we could enjoy happy hour at the bar. Unfortunately, the bar area is very small. So they were able to seat us at the table we were going to use, as I guess there was no large party coming in earlier. So we had our cocktails at the table prior to ordering our meal. The drinks were great. Unfortunately, there were not happy hour drink specials. So we ended up running up a large bar tab. We enjoyed our meal immensely. The good was very tasty, and beautifully presented. Of course, our restaurant week dinner ended up costing us twice as much as what the meal was going for, because of our bar tab, and supplement fees for the surf and turf meal. But that was OK, as we always plan on spending more than what the restaurant week meal is. And it was so worth it.
Because of the size of our party, we sat near the back at a large round table, and really did not get to enjoy the view of the skating rink. However, we did see it when we were walking through the restaurant, and we saw with the smaller tables were able to enjoy the view. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Everybody who worked that was very nice and accommodating to us. That was a very big plus. And it was really nice being seated at around table, we could all see and speak to each other.
Overall, it was really a wonderful meal, and a great experience.
My friend and I visited this place during the restaurant week. Compared to my previous visits to other participating restaurants, this place stands out in terms of food and value. Chef's compliment was delightful, and poached shrimp salad along with crab cake couldn't have been any better for starters. As we moved on to the main menu, oh boy: Cod was served with a pleasing presentation, Surf and Turf showed its classic mix with the meat cooked to the finest level. For desserts, we had the lime pie and apple tart; personally, I loved the lime pie but my friend sided with the tart - but both will fit into your appetite if you show minimal appreciation for sweets :)
The only meh-moment was the complimentary dessert that came out at the end. Each piece looked appetizing but was sub-par in terms of taste. My friend regretted tasting a particular cookie that muddled her enjoyment of the previous menus.
Overall, I would recommend this place. Great vibe, moderate level of noise, and great food (stick to the menu that you chose haha).
By the way, it's nice to watch others skate on the ice rink across the restaurant windows.. but don't stare at them when they fall - my stares drove the fallen ones off the rink in shame.
I Love food and well there is no price for great food.
I thought this would be a great place to take my mom in the city. Big mistake!
The restaurant was cold and the famous crab cake (1) was not worth the 25.00. Servers were nice but def overpriced for the quality of the food. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!
My family and I ate at the Sea Grill during Restaurant Week - winter 2018. I was looking forward to the surf and turf which included lobster ( with a $9 supplement ) to my disappointment, the menu that evening was not with lobster but with shrimp. However my mind ( and stomach ) was set on surf and turf and was promised large shrimps in replacement of the lobster. The shrimp that came with the meal was smaller than the ones that were in my shrimp salad! I didn’t
Think there should’ve been any supplement cost to the surf and turf. Nevethelsss, the oyster, sushi, seafood soup and homemade linguini ( all restaurant week) were delicious.
All courses were amazing! Very tasty, from the appetizers to the desserts. The attention to detail are to be noted. The waiter was excellent and very attentive to our table. All in all, we had a very good time at the Sea Grill and would come back if ever in NY again.
Went for a late dinner for restaurant week after the theater. The menu for RW is diverse and generous. I especially appreciated a RW wine menu. My only problem was the service — everything was rushed from the moment we entered. Appetizers came to our table in less than 3 minutes after ordering. It was the end of the day and they couldn’t wait to get us out. Other tables nearby commented similarly. The waitstaff are pushing their work union and wearing these red buttons. I wasn’t impressed. Don’t really care about a union — care about quality and service
Went for restaurant week and overall was satisfied. What I found ridiculous, was that they charged us $5.50 for a seltzer and $7.00 for a lemonade! A seltzer should be free. We also added a side dish because the waitress was pushing it. The small plate of spinach cost $13! So in the end, what was supposed to be a reasonably priced dinner ended up costing quite a bit.
This restaurant is packed on a weekday with office outings and business dinner so make sure to make a reservation on OpenTable. We had calamari and it wasn't very good however, the mushroom sliders were AMAZING. We didn't expect it due to the fact that its known for fish so we were surprised!
Superb fish. They do it better than anyone else. Anyone who cooks fish knows how difficult it is to cook the fish and have it moist inside. The cod and the mahi-mahi were cooked to perfection. The crab cake was solid crab, no "filler" and with delicious mustard sauce. Their key lime pie was the best I've had. Best of all we got to see all the ice skaters at Rockefeller skating rink fall down.
This was an awesome choice! I hadn't been there in years and forgot how great it was. There was an engagement on the skating rink while we were dining and it was heart warming to watch all the action ensued while we dined in the lovely ambiance. The food was absolutely incredible and our waitress was very personable yet professional. I will be back very soon!
It has been some time since I've been to the Sea Grill, but I love its location and the view of the ice skating rink. My husband and I dined here for a special event, a tasting menu with the new chef. The dinner exceeded our expectations. We both enjoyed our meals and the wine pairing. My husband was a little dubious about trying the venison, but enjoyed it immensely. The parting favor was an excellent touch. We were a little bummed that we didn't get to meet the chef as advertised, but we did see him walking around and saw him get caught at a table for an extended period.
A true New York gem of a restaurant and it would be off the charts if the food was to follow everything else about this venue. The restaurant is gorgeous. The service is attentive and accommodating. The presentation of the dishes is creative. Exceptional views of the Rock Center skating rink and surroundings. Great location in midtown. The downfall is the food. Not that it's bad, it's just ordinary and very overpriced for that. Certainly worth a visit for all it has to offer, just don't go there expecting to be blown away by the food.
