This was a once-a-year special lunch with a friend. Even though the restaurant was packed, we were still seated at our reservation time. The server was pleasant and informative. The food was delicious. I felt the price of the holiday menu was high, but it was a once a year splurge.
So sad to see that because restaurant is closing, standards have dropped so drastically!
My Sea Grill sushi roll was excellent! The scallop main course was wonderful as well. Scallops were small, tasty and tender. The blueberry dessert was amazing. My husband’s crab cake appetizer had a ton of crab meat and great flavor but it was lukewarm. His lobster main dish portion was great but he was hoping for it to be hot with warm butter on the side instead being almost cold. He loved the pistachio ice cream and the chocolate melting cake was hot and delicious. We felt as though the $135 per person was a bit high for the amount of food received and our server was very nice and accommodating but the service was slow and it seemed like they needed more staff for the amount of customers there.
As another reviewer wrote, everybody needs to go here once, but the food is not the best in the city and not good value for the money. Try to avoid during the holidays due to crowds. We had a reservation and were seated promptly but a lot of people were waiting. Restaurant was only serving a 3 course price fixe menu for $135 per person probably due to crowds. Selection was excellent but food was only good (not even close to$135/person good). Waiter was frequently absent which made me hesitant to tip $90 on our $450 bill (3 people X $135 + one glass of wine). Much better places to eat for the price.
This celebration was for my birthday...have been going to Rockefeller Center on this day since I was 4 years old and many wonderful dinners at the Sea Grill through all of their incarnations! I am now 68...I guess I like going there for the beginning of my new year and for the beginning of the holiday Christmas season.
The Sea Grill honored our reservation for a table within 3 minutes of our arrival. Pretty spectacular for the Christmas holiday season.
We were seated near the glass windows overlooking the skating rink which provided an enjoyable vista for all of us but especially for our 5 year old.. The wait staff were friendly, efficient, and so professional. They made every effort to see to our enjoyment of our meal.
The prices are steep but so is everything of quality in NYC. There were 4 in our party, each having a different entree and dessert. We were all extremely pleased with everything. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. I did not have a beverage but the two who did said they were excellent.
My bill was over $700 with tip so be prepared! It’s a very special restaurant for a very special occasion and I left feeling happy that we had experienced it.
We make an annual trip to NYC for the holiday. Lunch at The Sea Grill has been a staple of the tradition. We are very sad and surprised to hear that they will be closing their doors after the 2019 holiday season. We will greatly miss the delicious lunches that we enjoyed for many years. For my final meal at The Sea Grill I chose a crab cake appetizer, which was scrumptious, the cake was 95% fresh crab. For the main course I chose the black sea bass....another terrific choice; flavorful and cooked to perfection, and the key lime pie for dessert. The bar makes a very good cosmo also. Farewell and lots of luck to those that helped to make our NYC tradition very memorable.
Great meal and service. I just wish I had known about the $85pp menu before I booked. The food was very very good though.
Table at the window!
Attentive yet unobtrusive service
Just what we would expect at this iconic restaurant
Outstanding service and food with spectacular views of Rockefeller ice rink.
Beautifully decorated dining room overlooking Rockefeller Center skating rink. Excellent service, very attentive and accommodating. Food was excellent. Yellowfin tuna appetizer was very flavorful, lobster and duck entrees were cooked to perfection. Key Lime pie was the perfect finishing touch.
Haven't been in NYC for several years. Perfect spot to enjoy the holiday decorations and festivities in Rockafeller Square.
Went for thanksgiving and knew the restaurant would be busy - however on arrival it was like walking into a total meltdown.
Customers were queuing up in every nook and cranny, the staff were far too busy and the overall vibe was stressed.
Eventually got taken to our seat and it became really apparent that we were being rushed. But only when it suited the restaurant. Took 20 mins to even get a menu after sitting down and requesting three times, took a further 20 for drinks and our starters arrived ahead of them.
Food itself was lovely and I would be open to going back again. However the cost $99 pp vs the overall experience wasn’t worth it for me.
My wife and I were in New York City for Thanksgiving and found their special Thanksgiving meal pricing. We had the most amazing dinner with the most amazing view in the Rockefeller center ice rink. The staff was very friendly and gracious. The food was outstanding. It’s a shame that we won’t be able to go back there again as they are closing soon.
Sea Grill is a draw because it overlooks the Rockefeller Center ice rink. The food, service and ambience are very good but not the best in NYC. It is worth doing at least once
I loved the restaurant and its location with the outstanding opportunity of being able to watch the skaters on ice as we ate a delicious Thanksgiving turkey dinner. The service was great with friendly server, receptionist, and coat check personnel. It made my first time visit to New York an enjoyable experience. I will cerrtainly recommend it to any of my friends wanting to find an interesting place to dine while in New York.
Took my grandma after the Christmas show & she got teary eyed over what a nice experience it was. We lucked out & got a seat by the window. Great for holiday season. The chowder was to die for & the service was notch. Can’t wait to go back.
The quality of cuisine has been steadily declining, much to our disappointment. Our lunch was served lukewarm at best including the cappuccino at the end.
We ate at Sea Grill after seeing the Rockettes. Liked the food and enjoyed watching the ice skating while having dinner.
SUPER place.....sorry its closing will be missed
super atmosphere,great food, fantastic service
Excellent food in an amazing setting.
We were a party of 10. They set us up in an enclosed room to ourselves which was nice. We could hear each other speak and carry conversation . The food was delicious
The food, service, ambiance- all amazing. Such an iconic NYC dining destination. I’m very sad they’re closing.
Amazing atmosfere as usual. Love this place
It is so sad that this excellent restaurant is closing Jan. 1. Supposedly they lost their lease? It would be wonderful to save this place.
Food was OK, service was OK and place was OK. As you can tell, for us it was an average meal which was overpriced for the quality we were expecting.
Just a wonderful place. So sad that it is closing in January.
Service was correct but extremely -almost unacceptably- slow. Sit down at 8pm. Waiter finally asked for our drink at 8:15. Wine came at 8:20. Appetizers at 8:45. Main course at 9:30. Dessert at 10pm. Almost 10:30 by the time we paid and left.
Food was good but very overpriced (1 bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 desert, +tax&tip $300), especially because we did not feel the space, the food or the service, anything that made it feel like a special experience that deserved such expense.
The location is the best! The staff was very accommodating. I would go back
Love this place and it’s criminal that is closing to create a glorified food court.
Big mistake by speyer. They are wrong to make the rock center concourse their version of Eately
A fun and festive place
Arrived for dinner with the family before a show. Staff friendly and polite. Our server, Brad was friendly, informative and respectful of our time restraint. My 11 yr old and 7 yr old enjoyed the vegetable soup - they gave it a double thumbs up. Will be coming back again.
Delicious food and the view of the ice rink in Rockefeller center was nice. We tried the salmon, swordfish, and shishito peppers and just thinking about the food has my mouth watering it was all so good.
We celebrated our son’s 24th birthday and surprised him by choosing this Impeccable restaurant. Everything was just superb and the ice skating background added to the perfection.
The food was not good and did not come close to justifying the high prices.
The service was average at best.
The view of the Center was the only thing that saved the experience. (Other then the fact I was with good company)
Will not be going there again.
Went here on a date, they gave us a beautiful table next to the window overlooking the skaters and the rink. Food was 5 stars, service friendly but unobstrusive, good variety on the menu, a definite neighborhood gem. Top notch place that has been there for decades and always consistent on quality and experience. Will be very sad to see this place close.
Service was great and they were very attentive. Food was delicious as well!
Unbelievable experience. Highly recommend. Service exceptional and food delicious.
It is a shame that the landlord is forcing this marvelous restaurant to close at the end of the year.
