The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
As the name suggests, i'd love to see more seafood menu items.
Food in general was good, but for me, it was overpowered by butter on everything. After half way through the dinner course, i only smelt and tasted butter.
Also, for more intimate settings, i'd suggest a separate area where 2 people can sit and enjoy dinner without having to speak loudly to be heard.
Excellent food very well prepared. Very high-priced and service doesn’t match the caliber of food or the price. Service was aloof and not demonstrating the level of professional attention that you would expect at this level of restaurant. Every dish we had was outstanding And attention needs to be paid on how to provide more attentive service. Our water glasses were not refilled. Our wine was not poured. We had to ask for additional bread. It was a birthday and that was noted in the reservation and while a birthday card was provided which was very nice other diners had candles on their desserts and we did not.
Once again, we had an amazing birthday celebration. There were four of us, two with birthdays. We all had the Tasting Menu. I'm the only one who doesn't eat meat so The Sea served me delicious substitutions for those two courses. Our waiter, Cash, stayed on top of things and was fun to be around. THANK YOU!
Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and left very happy with the choice. The service from our waiter and the rest of the staff was excellent. Felt like they went the extra mile for us. The food was very well presented and tasted great. Would definitely come back and recommend to others looking for a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.
Dining room was very noisy. Could not converse with each other because the table of 4 was so loud & rude. . . Another group of 4 was louder. .. the next table over of 8 raised the noise level to a higher level. . . took 35 minutes to served our main dish. Meanwhile, the table of 2 sat down 10 min after & their meal was served before we were served. What’s going on? Checked your other dining room & would have loved to be seated there... less rude patrons.
Enjoyed a fabulous meal and evening. Tasting menu was top notch and we enjoyed every bite. Service was impeccable. The open kitchen is a really nice touch and you can see the attention and care that goes into preparing the meals. Food and presentation were exceptional! Chef is outstanding and is recognized for using quality local ingredients. Will definitely return again and again...
The Sea delivers what it promises, a fine dining experience. The staff are professionals and well trained, available and attentive. Our serve, Donna, was most helpful in suggesting wine pairings as well as entries that are chef's favorites. The menu is informative and we received each course promptly - no waits.
The food was well prepared, attractively plated, and full of flavor. The only small portion plate was the dessert which we shared, a bit skimpy. In addition to the regular menu, there was a tasting menu on offer
The Sea is a large establishment, accommodating many diners. And it has the professional staff to support a full dining house. Add in the superb food, you have a fine dining experience. And you pay for it. The place runs like clockwork. We will definitely return for one of those special occasion.
The food was exceptional. I had the lobster which did not come with your typical melted butter and I did not miss it for a second. There were other items to scope up with the lobster and every bite was delicious. They do hit the wine list hard.
Our server also tipped our wine glasses and water which drenched one of the guests. We received 2 wine glasses and free desert. She never did ask how our friend was and if she could get her towels. And, we never did see a manager. She was tipped very well and appreciative.
The food was amazing. This is the type of food you would see on a food channel. The sea bass was perhaps the most perfectly prepared fish I've ever had in my life. There were also some fun touches and surprises that added to the experience.
The dessert I had ("Pretty in Pink") tasted good, but it was a little too sweet, and it was a bit strange. But, of course, it was perfectly prepared and did taste amazing.
This restaurant is great for special occasions or, if you have the money, a super-nice date night.
The Sea was an excellent choice for dinner on our anniversary. The food was amazing. The hamachi shots and lobster rocks were excellent starters. We also really enjoyed the seared big eye tuna and black sea bass. It was a really nice touch to get a special anniversary dessert.
This was my 3rd visit to The Sea by Alexander- The first one, to celebrate my son's 21st birthday, was very nice. We felt welcomed. Sitting, food, service, everything was working together,
2nd diner, no special occasion, with 3 friends: OK overall.
This 3rd one, only with my son, have been quite disappointing. Table, like the 2nd visit, at the very back of the restaurant - and under a very cold air conditioner!
We saw our waitress at the beginning- never saw her again to check on us.
Entrees arrived barely warmed-
If you like to celebrate a special occasion, or be with a date, this can be a place to be in the area, outside of San Francisco. Otherwise, regarding the price you pay, you may feel a little disappointed.
This is a review for the Tasting Menu and Wine Pairing. It was very disappointing. Overall there are probably 3 dishes our party of 4 actually enjoyed. The Hirame Sushi was great. The Iberico Ham was excellent. But that is when it went downhill. The abalone was terribly deepfried. All you can taste is burnt skin since there is no real deepness to the batter to speak of. The Mero was okay but had a strong ammonia aftertaste. The wine pairing for the Mero was horrendous as it removes all flavor and leaves nothing but a fish taste in the mouth. I am not sure if they even tried this combo. The wine was great by itself, but after one mouth of fish, it ruined the rest of the pour.
Thankfully the Flatiron steak was excellent. Easily the highlight (although that is not hard because two previous dishes were terrible. The cheese is unrememberable and the dessert was decent but nothing out of the ordinary.
Lastly, service is definitely mistimed. Sometimes wine comes first, sometimes cutlery comes first, and once the food came first before everything else (first world problems... but you are paying for a supposed perfect experience). How do I eat the food in front of me without cutlery?
Overall the experience was not bad if I was paying $40-50 a person. But for over $1k for 4 people, this is the epitome of not worth it. Save the money and go to the Alexanders in Cupertino or one of the many other options in the 200+ range in the area.
