The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
The courses were all good, but not worth the price I paid to be honest. The sea bass and wagyu beef could’ve been more tender. One of our tastings was a very simple and unoriginal cheese platter. I felt cheated a little bit. But overall I enjoyed the experience.
The Sea has become our go-to date night / special occasion spot - not many restaurants of this caliber on the peninsula. The food is fantastic - a bit more than we usually spend when we eat out but absolutely worth it. Service is always great and we LOVE Tim, the GM who has been there since the restaurant opened. Our server was Cash, who was knowledgeable and friendly without being condescending. It's called The Sea (with an emphasis on Seafood) but on our last visit my husband had the wagyu (with lobster tail) and I had an amazing pasta dish with freshly shaved truffles and we've both been talking about it all week. Dessert was the perfect finish, we had the Super Monkey Ball - usually when the presentation is so exciting the dessert itself can sometimes fall flat, but this one tasted as good as (or better than) it looked. Already looking forward to the next time we can dine here.
Cache and Josh are two top people at The Sea and Alexander’s group overall. They get customer service; they always put forth the best hospitality, and are shining examples of how to create a perfect night for guests. The food is exceptional every time; Chef excels at surprises and even customized a Vegan meal for one of our guests who said it was amazing. One of our guests had never experienced food of this caliber and uniqueness and said it’s the best meal she’s ever had. Bravo, team, bravo.
We went with lovely friends for a happy celebration. All servers were wonderful. Cocktails were great. Food was not sublime however: beautiful, incredibly fresh scallops had their flavor completely drowned in sweet potato cream and caramelized onions and balsamic glaze reduction. It sincerely did not work, and at $52 for the dish, did not provide a great culinary experience.
Came here for a very special birthday as a family. Loved our charming and knowledgeable waiter who made my kids so comfortable and happy through our 7 course tasting menu for the adults. He even made sure the kids had complimentary desserts and a cheese platter from the tasting menu so that they could enjoy it with us. Service couldn’t be better.
Mixed feeling abt the food...the wagu beef, beef tenderloin and the merlo fish dishes were the best we had in the bay area... cooked perfectly as we ordered. However, the clam chowder and the special uni appetizer in a creamy “ soup” were a total miss at the enormous price they charged. And the birthday boy came home with stomach problem. Not sure if we’ll return again although we had a great time this past weekend.
Had a great dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. They made a fuss of us with a card and complimentary glass of champagne and dessert which was a nice touch. The food was excellent and our waiter, David, was a hoot. Ambience is just ok. It's a cavernous place and you half to walk half a mile to get to the restroom!! Will definitely return though.
It's way over-priced. Buyer beware - they actually charged me $10 for water! I had no idea until I got the bill and inquired about the charge. They did credit me, but it made my blood boil! I actually got an absolutely delicious and much better meal right across the parking lot at Dinah's Garden for a lot less money.
We got a gift certificate for X'mas so we tried. Their original cocktail was good. When we ordered Oysters, two wiatress did not know which one is which kind..... It was a surprise to see Oyster and the rest of the appetizer came together!! how are we supposed to eat clam chowder and oyster together........ The food was very good. My scallops was over $50 and I do not think it was worth that much money. It is enough to order 2 appetizers. dessert was over sweet to our taste. all in all ,nice try. Waitress and service people need more training to be equivalent to SF standard and if you charge that much , then our expectation will be high as well.
Dinner was OK not exceptional, given the high prices, one would expect more. Everything was done well but not special. The NY steak was not that tender. The tuna was good quality but the flavor was quite plain. The lobster was a nice presentation but the flavor was so-so.
Very good; a little funky getting in the driveway which isn't marked great with the hotel right next to it. Pricey, but where else can you get Kobe beef? Worth every penny there. The amuse-bouche appetizer; kind of a tuna roll was bland, not worthy of the restaurant. The sauces all night were fantastic. I wasn't sure what the dessert was, but it was delicious. And cotton candy is a neat treat. It's hard to find restaurants this good and devoted here in the south bay area. Great service all night.
My husband, our good friend and I have dined multiple times at The Sea by Alexander. This was our first time back after about a year. We were very disappointed. With the exception of the special uni appetizer and the truffle fries, the food was not impressive. Even the lobster rocks, which we had enjoyed immensely in the past, were just so-so. The service was rushed. We ordered multiple small plates to share, and four were brought out immediately. I expect a lot more for a bill that was over $400 for three people, before tip.
Went for my niece’s 18-year old birthday and we had the tasting menu. Absolutely outstanding on all counts—they brought her a card, gave us a round of prosecco (Pellegrino for her), brought her a dessert with a candle. The food was great but the service was the best...the combination made it a memorable dinner. Highly recommend. PS the portions were larger than we had been led to believe...all good but we may have skipped some intermezzo courses we ordered to round out the menu.
I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and let them know beforehand. They were very accommodating, brought out 2 glasses of champagne and a tasting, compliments of the chef, for the occasion. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and overall a pleasure to have serve us. The food was excellent. We had the himachi shots, foie gras, and oysters to start, all of which were excellent. My favorite of the appetizers would probably be the foie gras because it just melted in your mouth and left you wanting more. They also have someone who comes around offering a variety of breads-which you could have as much as you want. For entrees I had the black sea bass and my Boyfriend had the waiters recommendation of the Mero. I honestly could say that it was one of the best seafood meals I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly, the sides were the perfect accompaniment . It wasn't too much food, it was just the right amount. For dessert we had coffee and tea, and of course the cotton candy that comes at the end of your meal. Overall a very successful and pleasurable meal and i would definitely come here again
From the opening greeting to the last goodbye, the service at The Sea was exceptional. The evening was made memorable by the attentive table service, meticulously prepared main courses and of course the cotton candy. Highly recommend for a special occasion, intimate family dinner.
