Celebrated our anniversary here and I'm so glad we did. The food was superb, we opted for the tasting menu and each course was divine--the steak was fantastic. The service was excellent, I'd give them more stars if I could. They knew it was our anniversary (I mentioned when making the reservation), and gave us a card and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine each once we were seated, and an extra dessert course. If I have any complaint, it's that we couldn't finish the desserts. Highly recommend this place for a date. We'll definitely be back.

Went to The Sea for my wife's birthday, and we were not disappointed. We went for the tasting menu w/ wine pairings. At $150 each, our expectations were very high. The food was wonderful - ahi was good, Hawaiian Mero was exquisite, the wagyu tenderloin was excellent. We substituted the banana dessert for chocolate souffle as my wife is a chocoholic, but sadly it was the only let down - it was chocolate by name only, and just tasted like a light sugary flour ball. We also wouldn't do the wine pairing again, as they only give 3 x small 2oz pours, which is hardly worth the $60 each.

Overall, wonderful experience. We will go again.

The food and service at The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse was in one word...Outstanding.
The menu selections made it very difficult, but the scallops and the Mero we selected made for the best dining experience we have had in years. The price level is not for the weak of heart, but
it was worth it. A truly unique and tremendous experience!

Went to THE SEA for an anniversary dinner. I didn't want my bride to see the prices, so I just ordered the tasking menu (7 courses). We don't drink wine, so it was pretty simple. I thought it was going to be $90 per person, but when the check came, it was $155 per person. We had ordered coffee and tea too ($10 and $9) so the bill was higher than I expected. I should have read the online menu more carefully. The price of the tasting menu is formatted in a way that misled me.
OK, letting that go for a moment. The room was quiet and table and decor were quite nice. You can see the food, the cloths are pressed and clean, the greeters and wait-staff were considerate and helpful and not obsequious. Our waiter, Uriel, was very attentive and made us feel welcome. The food was consistently good (top level), except the dessert was sorta Cheesecake Factory level. I liked it, but not enough to plan a return. There is similar food in Palo Alto for less money, although most such restaurants are louder and less well lit.

For a place where a couple is going to drop at least $300 and a table will be out more than a grand, we expected more from our fellow patrons. The wait staff was attentive, knowledgable and efficient, and the kitchen capable. But across from us were four loud drunk women seat-hopping with their shopping bags; next to us a gentleman in a cotton hoodie, and across the room a guy in a backwards baseball cap had a full LED lighting rig to take posed photos of his cocktails.

The menu has moments of inspiration but can fail spectacularly (example: slices of foie gras that are nothing but fat). Our lobster and John Dory were well prepared but burdened with overwhelming sauces. A delightful special-occasion dessert tray looked promising but featured a pasty mousse on a dry cake. The cotton candy is a delight but you can’t build a menu around it.

You should know what you’re getting into here with the prices. It feels like a place to spend Other People’s Money (as we were, with a gift from work). That takes the sting out of things like ordering a double espresso and being charged 2 x $10 for it. There really is nothing you can do to a cup of coffee to make it worth $20.

If you want to blow a bundle on a memorable meal, try the Village Pub or Chez TJs.

Head waiter was OK and competent about explaining the menu preparation and wine, but the backup staff was not performing. Wine took 30 minutes (it was a twist off NZ wine), our table was not bused so guests had to hold dirty plates to make room for the oyster platter. The waiter did not even apologize. Water was not refilled until we asked the waiter who had just done a round and failed to notice we needed a refill. When the oyster platter was removed my son got splashed with the melted ice. Beef entree was good, Meero OK, black cod OK (both too salty and too much oil) one of the oysters was so tiny we sent it back. We skipped desert.
For this price point the service was shockingly poor. The food was OK but not definitively in line with the astronomical prices are $70 and above entrees . No comparison with some of the similar priced high end asian fusion restaurants in SFO.
I had also indicated in the reservation that we had a lactose intolerant guest and was assured the waiter would be prepared to volunteer solutions..... waiter had no clue.

This is seriously my favorite restaurant on the planet. It is a special occasion type place - not a weekly place you'd want to visit just because so much food is consumed during the meal. But I love it - everything about it...would highly recommend it to anyone. The food is creative as well as delicious, the service amazing, the ambiance funky and inviting...I just can't say enough about it.

This was our second dinner at The Sea in the past 6 months. We have been trying various restaurants in the Palo Alto/ Menlo Park area because of my weekend job there. Of all the places we have tried, I believe The Sea has been the best. The ambiance and service are wonderful. We always get very personal service from the waitstaff and wine steward. The food is outstanding. Excellent fresh seafood dishes wonderfully done in imaginative tasteful preparations. The black cod this past weekend was outstanding. The seafood chowder was wonderful. The fresh oysters were excellent. The wine list is excellent, and varied from local to European to South American and Australian. Pricewise, the list is weighted to the expensive, but there are moderately priced gems as well. There are many very good restaurants in the area, but The Sea has been at the top of our list, and was just as good the second time around.

I was very disappointed in my experience at The Sea. It has been awhile since me and my husband had visited the restaurant and we were sad to the change in the experience. I booked the restaurant for my husband's birthday. Although they greeted us with a card upon our arrival, the level of service quickly went down from there. The amuse bouche was terrible and our appetizers were disappointing especially the foie gras (which wasn't seared correctly and left a bad taste in your mouth). What was very surprising was that my husband didn't touch the foie gras. Usually when this happens at a restaurant with great service, the waiter would come over and ask if there was anything wrong. This didn't happen. In fact, our waiter and the floor manager passed us and didn't acknowledge us. At this point we decided that it was time to leave and didn't complete our meal. This was not the experience that I wanted for my husband's birthday.

My recommendation is to avoid this restaurant and go to Alexander's Steakhouse instead in Cupertino. Much better experience, service and food.

The Sea is one of our favorite local restaurants. While on the fancier side, it is family-friendly. Maria is a terrific server who knows the menu and ingredients really well. She answered questions and gave excellent suggestions. She is also funny, friendly, and our entire family enjoys seeing her. Great with kids. Food was excellent as always.

I wanted to like this restaurant - the wait staff were great and very responsive when something didn't work. But the food...this is a pricey restuarant and the food was more like something I'd get at a cheap chain restuarant - it felt like a wanna be to me...the fish was not tasty nor even seeming that fresh to me - the presentation of food was wanna be fancy but didn't make the food more appealing to me - the combinations in dishes often didn't work - and the panna cotta dessert - the tastes did work here but the panna cotta was gelled - not creamy as a really good one should be - I loved the beer and my spouse loved the wine - the bread was boring - again not up to the prices - the salad they offered us was a big heap of arugula - even this simple dish could have been presented differently - the food was eatable but for these prices not somewhere I would ever choose to go again

Service was excellent and special requests we're met. I regret that the food was slightly uneven. The hamachi "shots" appetizer was delicious. But a tempting blackened cod on a bed of lobster was surprisingly bland. Salmon was properly cooked but did not taste fresh. Mixed vegetables as a side we're very well prepared. The tempting-sounding chocolate dessert was small and didn't hang together. I am being somewhat picky because this is an expensive restaurant with quite high priced entreés, even for Silicon Valley. For this expense customers really deserve complete perfection, and as nice as the service and ambiance was, it couldn't make up for food that fell short on quality. The menu is imaginative, and I will probably give the restaurant another try, thinking that this might have been an off night.

The Sea is a favorite restaurant for special occasions. They serve fresh and well prepared seafood, meats, and side dishes, as well as excellent cocktails and wines. Desserts are creative. If your pocketbook allows, try the tasting menu - the courses are delicious. The service staff are very knowledgeable and attentive.

This past Saturday we dined on hamachi shots, lobster rocks and octopus appetizers. Our birthday guest enjoyed the entree of scallops, and we enjoyed our black cod and black bass entrees. A complimentary chocolate dessert was presented to our birthday guest at the end of the meal. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening though the restaurant was much busier and noisier compared to previous visits.

2 of three people in our party requested the tasting menu, but the waiter said all members of the party had to participate. One had dietary restrictions. The waiter went to the head chief, and we were told an exception could not be made. We all had to go a-la-cart, and the fun feeling was gone. In addition, as we pressed for the exception, the head supervisor on the restaurant came to our table and lecture us on fine dining stating the meal would be out of sync if one member of our group didn't participate. We won't go back even if the food is good, it takes a good experience to make the food good, and our experience was anything but good.

Had the tasting menu. Are frequent Michelin Star restaurant goers (mainly Europe).
Simple summary: The kitchen is punching above their weight but uses great products.
En detail:
Greetings from the kitchen: nice sushi-rolls.
First: two tuna variations with seaweed rice-cracker: awesome tuna! A bit too much mustard but it was apart, so up to you how much to take. General: that was getting the taste-buds excited.
Second: Iberico Ham with truffle. Again: great and awesome product, a bit boring with the frisee, but still: anticipation rising.
The corresponding wines were to the point and really fun.
Third: Tempura. I would argue to remove tempura from any ambitious kitchen. It nearly does not matter what you put inside: all will taste the same. It was done well, the choice to use an Abalone from Santa Cruz to simply deep-fry it was a waste of that product.
The main fish course was wild Mero, and that was now really a full disappointment:
The Fish was prepared in Sake (I assume) which anyway tends to make any dish quite sweet, but this time it was so sweet that it could easily qualify as a desert. There was nearly no fish-specific taste detectable (even if removing all sauce). Also, the corresponding Sake was from our point of view a fail for the course.
The main meat course a Wagyu Flatiron was at its best ok. Not up to the expectations whatsoever. Did not finish mine. The meat had strong own odor which I disliked. The sides were simply boring.
The cheese plate was a bad joke. Explanation: "Here we have some slices of Spanish Cheese, here a slice of a strawberry and here some crostinis." If you interpreted that it was ONE sort of cheese with 5-7 slides you had the right intuition.
The service was great fun though! 5 stars for them! The bar looked cool. They have a great wine list (a bit overpriced but a great selections esp. of Champagne (Salon 1997...) Not sure if they still have a Michelin-star, I would definitely not award them with one for their cooking...

Wanted a quiet place for an anniversary dinner. Ended up in a dining room with a thin glass wall viewing the kitchen -- with no soundproofing. Constant shrill shouting from someone giving orders to the kitchen crew. Disappointing entree -- salmon -- Fish Market is less fancy but the food is much better at 1/3 the price. Service was obsequious.
