Had a lovely evening yesterday. We were a party of 6 and quite hungry. Various small plates arrived throughout the evening; all really interesting and tasty dishes. Tried various wines and really helpful with recommendations. Great evening, nice relaxed atmosphere, fab service and would definitely recommend.

Exceptional food. Second time we’ve eaten there. We’ve travelled widely and eaten out everywhere. This is one of the best menus and cooking we’ve ever had. Order everything and share. This is real food in a pub, not pub food 🤣

£20 a head for lunch with a few tap beer drinks.
The food was nice - but small portions.
The cured meats were tasty £5, but should come with some bread.
monkfish mcnuggs which were really nice could have done with 4 pieces (3 given). Ravioli was nice, but again, 1 piece for £8!
Flatbreads were better value, but the veggie was a bit dry.
It will be interesting to see how it pans out in quieter times, as the Lymington folk will expect value for money.

Delightful lunch. We really enjoyed the lobster that we could watch being cooked in front of us. We love that the menu features locally sourced fresh produce and changes accordingly. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We hope to be back soon.

The garden is pleasant and laid out with new planting, will take a little time to grow in. Two large trestle tables dominate, would be better to have more smaller tables in these times. Strange menu, mostly sharing plates 2-4 (covid correct?). Meat and fish offered with no veg all extra and serving 2-4 too, so quite wasteful for just 2. Served on dinner plates then offered side plates to eat off. Long wine list at extortionate prices for a pub (£25-£125'ish), includes 3 bottles of Rose and about 8 bottles of Orange wine. Panna cotta served in a knickerbocker glory glass with a dessert spoon too big to get it out. Overall it is expensive and perhaps trying too hard to be different.

friendly and engaging service. We tried two craft beers based on server recommendation - both very good.
Food (Flat breads) were unusual, but very tasty. We saw the chef picking herbs from the garden so clearly fresh. The rest of the menu was intriguing - and other plates looked good.
outdoor area was a large suntrap, one area looked like it was going to be planted (we were there just after lockdown/April).

This a great place! The menu is small but wow it packs a punch. Even the (confit) potatoes were devine. While the veggies are separate it is still good value as some people don't like potatoes like my husband, so he didn't order any. However he still managed to eat mine.... Grrrrr.
The beer selection was extensive to say the least and with a super descriptive menu if you can't find a beer for you there simply isn't one. My husband is very fussy about his evening beverage and he was delighted with his many choices! Har.
We took our kids and we were made very welcome. The waiter, Jacob and the landlord, Henry were very accommodating and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. It's a great asset to the town and I hope The Saltern stays forever!

We lamented the demise of the the Tripp pub, but so glad it's been taken over by an enthusiastic team. Depsite being in the process of redecorating, we were welcomed for a relaxed friday lunch with local seasonal food cooked to an aunexpected high standard. Looking forward to the refurb being finished - Lymintgon needs a place like this.
