What Insiders Are Saying
Salt Line's New England-style seafood, outdoor bar, and attractive dining room are perfect for a date or dinner with parents in Navy Yard.
The seafood tower never fails. Fresh, delicious, and luxe!
Food was great, but i felt rushed through the meal. Not that I expected a 2.5 hour affair, but our dinner was complete in under an hour. If this is a place you want to relax for dinner, might not be your place.
The raw bar is excellent with lots of choices for oysters from different areas. We sat outside on a comfy couch and enjoyed great service and good food.
Our third time there and it never disappoints. The food is always so fresh, the parker house rolls are a must, the bar drinks and appetizers and mouthwatering. Our entrees were perfectly prepared and the server was wonderful. Can't wait to go back.
Fish over cooked, small portions for the price. Not that special for me to return or recommend
Get the platter! The fried scallops were the best part!
I really enjoyed the raw oysters and the lobster roll. The service was excellent, especially Gus.
I had looked up places with out door seating and the salt line came up. I arrived before my date and checked the outdoor seating which is pretty awesome. Heat lamps and fire pits span the length of the place and give a really warm vibe. Alas the weather did not cooperate with my plans of outdoor seating as it had become fairly chilly out so we ate indoors. We opted to try 3 types of oysters all of which were fantastic, the rockfish (yum), and their special. All of the food we received was cooked to perfection and our waitress was super attentive as our drinks never were empty. Cocktails, service, and food here are all top notch making this an excellent date night spot
Nice place, nice staff but repeated visits have found the food overpriced and subpar. Pity. It could be so nice.
Great restaurant! Highly recommend! The service was great and the food fresh and delicious!
Only been here once and we were craving a burger of all things and we also aren't drinking for April . . ..so I feel like I can't give a fair assessment of the main elements of the menu. Why am I even writing this? A fair point. But I just love the location, decor, and feel of the place. The oysters were very good, the razor clam ceviche was delicious, the burger was good and messy but it is its own style, i.e. not a typical cook-to-order patty. The asparagus was beautifully cooked but a bit sandy. I'll say the service at the bar was OK; nothing was really wrong or great. Most telling to me was that at one point the bartender stood literally with his back to us leaning against the bar, watching TV. This isn't the most glowing review but I will be back to really dig into the food and drink, at a table with a great view of the water.
First visited the Salt Line during the Oyster Wars, great venue and location. Was seated in the outdoor patio are this time, ample space and good times all around.
Unfortunately, a number of dishes were unavailable that were listed on the menu. Was provided some alternates, but they did not live up to expectations.
We ordered the "double" bloody mary which came with fun accoutrements, but it would be great to just have a "single" bloody mary available for those who are just looking to enjoy one drink.
Oysters XO signature dish was fantastic. Dog friendly. Patio seating with river view.
Good food, very crowded
Awesome spot, perfect for before or after nationals games. Great food and great service.
This is a lovely restaurant, a fabulous location and good food and service. However, I can't give it more stars because the fact is, it's hard to find something healthy on the menu. Every good seafood restaurant should easily be able to offer a simple grilled fish dish - but they don't. I had the rockfish with a parmesan and ham hock broth - which was delicious - but I think a lot of patrons would appreciate at least one simple, healthy fish dish added to the menu.
We sat outside under some heaters and had a fantastic time. Our server was very sweet and attentive without being obnoxious. I got the sparkling rose for a drink, and my sister got a bourbon cocktail which we both enjoyed. The rolls are honestly to die for, and we split the ceviche, pirogi and broiled scallops, and I got the crispy skin rockfish, and my sister got the crab meal. Everything was amazing and served promptly. We would definitely come here again.
While the setting is quaint and the location very convenient for either before of after a Nats game, I was very disappointed in the food. Service was good, but the menu was fairly limited, and the food was disappointing. I had scrambled eggs, which were runny, some sort of sausage, which was dry, and "toast," which was a big hunk of cold bread without butter or jelly on the side. My dining companion had the Crab Mac and Cheese, which he enjoyed very much. I'd like to try it again in the evening, but I can't recommend the brunch/breakfast menu.
You pay for way more than what you get. The oysters were milky and the food wasn’t very flavorful. Service was good and whiskey list was plentiful
Food was delicious, and service was excellent. High quality chef who really cared about the final product and presentation. Staff was very attentive and responsive. Excellent experience. Will be back again!
I didn’t think the halibut was worth $36 it was average at best.
Food was horrible, 6 dishes were passed around and all were inedible. The only good thing were the oysters.
Servers weren’t friendly nor helpful.
Scenery was great, so if you only want drinks and oysters then maybe come here. Other than that not worth the money at all.
Not a negative experience, but more so an underwhelming and disappointing one. Food was average: oysters were forgettable, lobster roll was tasty but not great, and the accompanying fries that came with the lobster roll were cold. Service left much to be desired. Once the restaurant began to get busy throughout our meal, our server went MIA. While initially very pleasant and friendly, she became crass and almost condescending when we mentioned that we were on a bit of a time crunch and needed our check. I haven't ruled out future outings to the Salt Line in the future, I likely won't be returning anytime soon.
Salt Line is a fantastic choice if you are looking for delicious food and outstanding service. Chef Kyle Bailey's creations are delectable, combining creativity with impeccably fresh ingredients. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and charismatic contributing to an overly enjoyable dining experience. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in a lovely night out!
Thjis is a great location, and after opening day at Nationals Stadium it was a large, rowdy bunch at the outside bar. Our reservation was for 5:30, but they got us to our table when we arrived just a little after 5:00. The place was very busy, but the staff handled it very well, and we didn't wait long for drinks or food. The oysters on the shell were great. The rockfish tartare was amazing (very highly recommended). All of the meals at our table were excellent. Any chance I get to come to the city, The Salt Line is always one of the places that I suggest or plan to visit.
Went to Salt Line before opening day at Nationals Park and had a good time. Great staff and service all around. Food was very good as usual. Been to this location several times and always have a great experience.
Service was excellent and the location convenient to Nats Park. Portions seemed small for the price
Everything was great! Our table was particularly wobbly though which was strange for an inside table.
Great environment, great food and we definitely will be back!!
Rock fish dish was under salted. Nice sear but underwhelming dish. The Creole ravioli dish came with a tomato sauce that lacked any punch. The waterman’s platter came with limped fried fish but otherwise ok. Second time but won’t be coming back.
Wasn’t impressed with the food, too costly for the experience, not great service or ambiance.
The Salt Line is my neighborhood restaurant. I've brought many of my friends in the past 2 years. I very much appreciate Philip's service. He's always on point and very gracious. Merci Beaucoup for another fantastic dinner. The Crudo was exquisite as the fresh Lobster salad. See you soon. Karine
Food was great and the view and atmosphere were awesome! Service was really good without being intrusive.
The Salt Line has the BEST shellfish and fish in the area. Their lobster roll is FILLED with the best parts of the lobster, but it's hard to single one dish. All of their dishes we've tasted so far have been over the top. Ambience is delightful and will be even more so in warm weather sitting outside. The service has been EXCELLENT each time we've been. Thank you!!
Outstanding! Reminded me of being home in Massachusetts. Great menu and great service. Very refreshing dining experience
Delicious fresh seafood, creative but not fussy. The ambiance is cozy and lively. Oyster shooters are excellent!
This is a beautifully designed, delicious place to eat. The selection of oysters was lovely and the rest of the menu was just as strong. Lovely cocktail menu with a particularly tasty hot toddy. Will definitely return for date night in the future. Thanks for an awesome meal.
Excellent food, drinks and service on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon. As good an experience as it was, I can only image how nice it will be with some milder spring weather overlooking the Anacostia River.
The food was delicious, the view was beautiful, and the service was fantastic—our server helped us with menu choices and even offered to swap a drink I didn’t care for after she helped me pick it out. Overall, a great dining experience.
I ordered the Watermen's platter. the fries fish was too greasy
