What Insiders Are Saying
Salt Line's New England-style seafood, outdoor bar, and attractive dining room are perfect for a date or dinner with parents in Navy Yard.
Very good overall. We went for brunch; would like to try the full menu. We had appetizers, oysters, drinks and entrees for about $75 pp. Food was very good if a tad pricey; portions are not overwhelming. Brunch menu does not have many options for the non-seafood eater.
Made a reservation expected a table for 6 adults.
Seated in a booth...too crowded give the $$
This is a cute place, right on the water across from the stadium. We went for the fried Ipswich clams, which we both ordered, with onion rings. The clams were a disappointment--tiny, fried together in clumps, far from what I know of fried Ipswich clams, and the onion rings were similar to the frozen supermarket versions. My husband had the clam chowder, which he did like.
The Salt Line has a great atmosphere, I went there for a celebration with my family and we had a wonderful time! All of the food was delicious and it felt cozy and fun! PLUS - they partner with local fishermen for seafood so it's fresh and wonderful! Hurray for sustainable seafood sourcing! Another plus is the Christmas trees sold outside during christmas time to support local Firemen. All in all, the Salt Line is a great place to eat that supports the local community.
My husband is dying and his wish was for oysters and a chocolate milkshake at Salt Line. We eat there regularly and the staff did everything to make this occasion special. It took my husband 3 hours to get up and dressed for the occasion. The staff gave him all the time he needed to make it to the table, and even offered a booth close to the door if he preferred that to the water view table. They did some special things and made the chocolate milkshake even though it was not on the menu.
Always a treat to eat here--friendly service, very imaginative ways of preparing the freshest fish and seafood. Lovely river views if you're here before dark.
Wonderful restaurant for the best, freshest, and biggest selection of seafood. Lobster roll is VERY generous. So many wonderful things on the menu to choose from, it was hard to decide, so will be returning soon. Next time I'm trying the seafood tower for 2-3 people. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
This restaurant is not open during the week for lunch so we went for the Sunday brunch and the fish options were few and unsatisfactory.
We walked in, waited by the bar. Staff were nice enough to let us know that our table was being prepared and encouraged us to close our tabs. When we were ready to head over, we had a nice, roomy booth for the 6 of us, and our waiter wasn’t too far off to check on us. We got burgers, clam chowder, and the stuffed lobster. The burgers were dense (not in a good way), the fries were salty, the clam chowder was decent, but the stuffed lobster was a little chewy and looked more like a pretty dish than a seaworthy experience. Over all, this place is ok.
The decor is wonderful though! The frames leading into the bathroom hallway are gorgeous
Excellent experience - The Kraken seafood tower was well worth it.
It was really pricey and the food was good (some misses) but not worth the price.
Fish was great and they have an outstanding beer list
If you love seafood this place is a Mecca! However, if you are like me and do not...doesn't matter, get the roadt beef sandwich. So good!! Cocktails were on point as well.
Fair warning, can be noisy. Tables are very close together. We sat by a window and at times had trouble hearing each other from across the table.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Salt Line and they went out of their way to acknowledge the occasion. Nice touch. Our server, Remy, was excellent.
The Salt Line served the perfect birthday dinner and pre-Arena Stage meal for me and my dad. The service was excellent - thank you Nia! She spent the time to explain the menu and answer any questions, but also moved our meal along to help us get to the play on time. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The appetizer was heaven: a roasted acorn squash filled with scallops, a little pancetta and a maple syrup glaze. I ordered the rockfish entree which comes with fried okra stuffed with pimento cheese (!!) and my dad got the triggerfish special. Clean plates all around! We will definitely be back. Five stars! Thank you!
We came for brunch. Were seated promptly in a very sunny, open, dining room with a great view of the waterfront. The food was excellent, especially the clam bellies and the lobster roll. Very nice service. Has a great patio which would be wonderful in warmer weather. A bit tricky to find the first time; go around to the back of the building. Directly across the street from Nationals Stadium.
The service was outstanding! My meal, including baked oysters, trigger fish and roasted brussel sprouts, was satisfying. I will return to the restaurant, but I will never order the brussel sprouts again. They are overly sweet. The baked oysters, however, were a tasty treat!!
The Salt Line is great for happy hour, or before a baseball game. Have been there several times before for that experience and enjoyed it. However, I took some visiting family members there for dinner recently and we were fairly disappointed by the food quality. Fried seafood is tough and exceedingly forgettable, the desserts were badly overbaked to the point of being not at all worth it, and the rest was just okay.
Outstanding food and service.
Across the board everything was AMAZING! Extra kudos to the Host Stand...Team Awesome.
Location is great and the cocktails were yummy, but very expensive. We went there for Sunday brunch, but it was a little too cold to eat outside. The eggs I got were completely over cooked and the corned beef had barely any meat to it. If i’m paying almost $20 for a plate of corned beef hash, I would at least want a decently cooked over easy egg and more than 6 bites of meat. At the end of brunch, we were hit with a $95 bill for overpriced cocktails and food that was not up to par for the price we were paying/the other brunch options in that area.
Nicely done and creative dishes. Outstanding service from the moment you enter and through the entire experience. Will come back again with friends.
we celebrated a birthday with 6 of us and enjoyed the meal and especially the service.
Salt line was great! I only gave it 4 stars for food because they have very limited options for people with food allergies, however they were super helpful and took good care of me. The oysters were fresh and delicious!
Our meals were fantastic. The NE clam chowder was a lighter broth both full of richness and flavor. The fish was super fresh and delicious and the lobster roll generously prepared. The staff from the hostesses to the waitstaff to the kitchen were all friendly and super accommodating (one diner with dietary restrictions). Great find!
The lobster rolls were good, but unfortunately the raw oysters were not. They lacked flavor and their cocktail sauce has no flavor either.
We go to happy hour all of the time, but this was our first time in the restaurant area. Our service was super great! I wish I could remember his name but I asked a million questions, so many that I was annoying myself & he was super kind, informative, and kept asking me if I had any more questions. (I'm not an avid seafood eater) I got the Rockfish & it was amazing. This is a fun place where you can experiment with seafood you've never had before.
Had a wonderful casual birthday dinner with my daughter on a weeknight. Our server, Philip, was very attentive even though it got busier later in the evening. The Salt Line treated me and my daughter to a complimentary banana split for mt birthday which was a pleasant surprise. The food was good, portions were above average, and ambience was nice. Recommend using Metro or Lyft due to limited parking in the area. About 5 blocks from Metro Navy Yard station and worth the walk. Will visit again. Thank you everyone for the nice birthday meal!
Incredible service. My order, the squash with scallops, was lukewarm when it arrived. The waiter and manager responded politely, professionally and immediately to the problem. Another squash, which was comped, was prepared (It was perfect). While I waited for the hot meal, rolls and onion rings were brought to our table. My dinner companions thought their meals, especially the clams with bellies, clam chowder and the grilled amberjack, were excellent.
I would definitely return
Food was outstanding Do not miss the Lobster Roll and Smash Burger. Service was great, view beautiful, and Bloody Mary perfect.
As I have a shellfish allergy, not my first choice. However there were other options and the one I chose (fin fish) was quite enjoyable.
Had a gathering with several people with dietary restrictions/preferences, one person was elderly and needed a little extra time/space and celebration of a birthday- we could not have been more warmly accommodated. Had doors opened for us, the server was very patient explaining the menu, and answered all questions very well.
Will highly recommend to everyone- and will return often! This is our favorite restaurant to bring our friends and family because everyone always leaves happy and full.
The staff went above and beyond for a birthday party. They rearranged tables for us and even heated up and served a pie we brought in from the outside for dessert. It was fantastic.
The menu is very limited and contains lots of fried items. We all ended up eating a burger.
Terrible service. We were seated in an annex room and forgotten.
Our oysters were delivered without sauces, cocktail forks, or indicating which were which. Upon asking we were told, “I think these are the salty ones.” One sauce was eventually delivered, but they never came back with silverware or plates. I eventually took silverware and plates off another table.
I live next door and am so disappointed this likely won’t be one of our frequent dining spots.
Birthday meal for my husband who turned 98. We got a quieter part of restaurant and family was able to celebrate. Drinks and food were good
The best overall brunch experience we have had lately. The oysters were fresh, meaty and opened to perfection. So much briny Oyster liquor. Smoked fish board was a perfect compliment along with clam bellies. Service was so on point. Server knew I liked my iced tea and brought a carafe with extra ice. Love her! Location on the water was nice for a walk after. Can’t wait to go back. Only draw back are tight tables for a deuce. If you can grab a booth, do it. Next time I will ask.
Our server was very good. Knew the menu well. Good cadence for stopping by. Noticed when our cocktails needed refreshing.
Had the seafood tower, had excellent oysters. We LOVED the marinated roe and razor clam ceviche. But could definitely tell the lobster tail and crab legs were previously frozen.
Good food. Very good service. I made the reservation for a birthday brunch, but the staff didn't seem to get the memo. Still good value and I will return.
