What Insiders Are Saying
Salt Line's New England-style seafood, outdoor bar, and attractive dining room are perfect for a date or dinner with parents in Navy Yard.
Fantastic! The cocktails and dishes were unique and very delicious. We went here for brunch and this place did not disappoint - we also love a year round oyster bar! Highly recommend the lobster omelet and duck confit. The decor of this place is also absolutely adorable with views right on the water.
My fiancé and I went here totally based on an online review we found looking for a good seafood spot. We were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere and fantastic food. The oyster stroganoff was fantastic along with the baked oysters. The service was thoughtful and pleasant without being overbearing. Overall, the food was way above what we expected and will definitely revisit Salt Line.
Outstanding seafood! Smart ownership group who gets it and has a cool bar with nice waiters. Outstanding service andnindoor/outdoor options for drinks/dining.
Fun place on the waterfront/navy yard. Great cocktails, oysters and seafood
It was just ok or even mediocre. Nothing special or a reason to return. Very limited menu and extremely pricey for portions. The cod appetizer was good but extremely small. The fish entree was very bland. The menu needs more options (fish sandwich etc). The bill was $80+ for two appetizers, one entree, one dessert and no alcohol. There are much better places to go for this much money.
Lovely restaurant with great views, excellent service, and great authentic NE cuisine (and they do the chowder the right way, none of the Campbell's Chunky Soup nonsense that has bastardized what people now perceive to be authentic chowder)
It's the best. I love this place so much. They are good at everything from start to finish.
I live on SW DC and hadn’t been to Salt Line yet. My girlfriend and I were looking for a nice quick bite before going out and were hugely surprised by a great menu and high quality creative cocktails. Plus the price was reasonable by DC and The Wharf standards. We will be back !
Pros: Great staff, including host, bartender and server. Excellent location and view. Platter of seafood, including oysters, shrimp, clams, etc. was great.
Cons: the rest of the food. Not fantastic. We left the a good amount of the bucatini and eel on the table. Scallops and pierogi were just ok. Same with the other two main courses we ordered. We should have taken the server's advice and ordered the burger.
I'm surprised this restaurant had some mixed reviews- we were very happy with the food, service and atmosphere. I highly recommend the seafood stew- it came with a delicious piece of sourdough bread that was perfectly toasted and great for dipping. The kids menu was good for my 10 year old, who enjoyed his burger (the fries were also particularly good) and my husband enjoyed his seafood curry dish. The drink menu was expansive and very good.
Excellent food... absolutely incredible fresh oysters!
We’ve been wanting to visit The Salt Line for months but this place is so popular, we now see why! We snagged a reservation for the Saturday before Christmas and were one of the few tables at the time so the service was very attentive!
Everything we ordered tasted amazing, and was perfectly prepared and presented. We highly recommend the rockfish tartare, the lobster roll, and the Brussels sprouts and chilled beets on the side. The entire menu and raw bar looked great, we’ll be back for more!
I had heard great things and was excited to eat at salt line, what a bummer the experience turned out to be. Their "special " oysters only they have were very disappointing. We made a reservation and were seated quickly, however no one came to wait on us for 10 minutes, and we had to grab a member of the waitstaff who was walking by to place our order. Don't waste your time or money here.
This place is fantastic! Great food by a great chef and the service was also top-notch.
Very good overall. We went for brunch; would like to try the full menu. We had appetizers, oysters, drinks and entrees for about $75 pp. Food was very good if a tad pricey; portions are not overwhelming. Brunch menu does not have many options for the non-seafood eater.
Made a reservation expected a table for 6 adults.
Seated in a booth...too crowded give the $$
Food was not that great and pictures online were not available. Apparently they change the menu on a daily basis. Will not return.
This is a cute place, right on the water across from the stadium. We went for the fried Ipswich clams, which we both ordered, with onion rings. The clams were a disappointment--tiny, fried together in clumps, far from what I know of fried Ipswich clams, and the onion rings were similar to the frozen supermarket versions. My husband had the clam chowder, which he did like.
The Salt Line has a great atmosphere, I went there for a celebration with my family and we had a wonderful time! All of the food was delicious and it felt cozy and fun! PLUS - they partner with local fishermen for seafood so it's fresh and wonderful! Hurray for sustainable seafood sourcing! Another plus is the Christmas trees sold outside during christmas time to support local Firemen. All in all, the Salt Line is a great place to eat that supports the local community.
My husband is dying and his wish was for oysters and a chocolate milkshake at Salt Line. We eat there regularly and the staff did everything to make this occasion special. It took my husband 3 hours to get up and dressed for the occasion. The staff gave him all the time he needed to make it to the table, and even offered a booth close to the door if he preferred that to the water view table. They did some special things and made the chocolate milkshake even though it was not on the menu.
Always a treat to eat here--friendly service, very imaginative ways of preparing the freshest fish and seafood. Lovely river views if you're here before dark.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant is beautiful. I was disappointed with the food. The sashimi only tasted of salt, the market fish tasted like Thanksgiving dinner: stuffing and cranberry sauce. Couldn’t distinguish the fish or the other ingredients. The flank steak was decent but not great. Probably won’t go back.
Wonderful restaurant for the best, freshest, and biggest selection of seafood. Lobster roll is VERY generous. So many wonderful things on the menu to choose from, it was hard to decide, so will be returning soon. Next time I'm trying the seafood tower for 2-3 people. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
This restaurant is not open during the week for lunch so we went for the Sunday brunch and the fish options were few and unsatisfactory.
We walked in, waited by the bar. Staff were nice enough to let us know that our table was being prepared and encouraged us to close our tabs. When we were ready to head over, we had a nice, roomy booth for the 6 of us, and our waiter wasn’t too far off to check on us. We got burgers, clam chowder, and the stuffed lobster. The burgers were dense (not in a good way), the fries were salty, the clam chowder was decent, but the stuffed lobster was a little chewy and looked more like a pretty dish than a seaworthy experience. Over all, this place is ok.
The decor is wonderful though! The frames leading into the bathroom hallway are gorgeous
Excellent experience - The Kraken seafood tower was well worth it.
It was really pricey and the food was good (some misses) but not worth the price.
Fish was great and they have an outstanding beer list
If you love seafood this place is a Mecca! However, if you are like me and do not...doesn't matter, get the roadt beef sandwich. So good!! Cocktails were on point as well.
Fair warning, can be noisy. Tables are very close together. We sat by a window and at times had trouble hearing each other from across the table.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Salt Line and they went out of their way to acknowledge the occasion. Nice touch. Our server, Remy, was excellent.
The Salt Line served the perfect birthday dinner and pre-Arena Stage meal for me and my dad. The service was excellent - thank you Nia! She spent the time to explain the menu and answer any questions, but also moved our meal along to help us get to the play on time. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The appetizer was heaven: a roasted acorn squash filled with scallops, a little pancetta and a maple syrup glaze. I ordered the rockfish entree which comes with fried okra stuffed with pimento cheese (!!) and my dad got the triggerfish special. Clean plates all around! We will definitely be back. Five stars! Thank you!
We came for brunch. Were seated promptly in a very sunny, open, dining room with a great view of the waterfront. The food was excellent, especially the clam bellies and the lobster roll. Very nice service. Has a great patio which would be wonderful in warmer weather. A bit tricky to find the first time; go around to the back of the building. Directly across the street from Nationals Stadium.
The service was outstanding! My meal, including baked oysters, trigger fish and roasted brussel sprouts, was satisfying. I will return to the restaurant, but I will never order the brussel sprouts again. They are overly sweet. The baked oysters, however, were a tasty treat!!
The Salt Line is great for happy hour, or before a baseball game. Have been there several times before for that experience and enjoyed it. However, I took some visiting family members there for dinner recently and we were fairly disappointed by the food quality. Fried seafood is tough and exceedingly forgettable, the desserts were badly overbaked to the point of being not at all worth it, and the rest was just okay.
Outstanding food and service.
Across the board everything was AMAZING! Extra kudos to the Host Stand...Team Awesome.
Location is great and the cocktails were yummy, but very expensive. We went there for Sunday brunch, but it was a little too cold to eat outside. The eggs I got were completely over cooked and the corned beef had barely any meat to it. If i’m paying almost $20 for a plate of corned beef hash, I would at least want a decently cooked over easy egg and more than 6 bites of meat. At the end of brunch, we were hit with a $95 bill for overpriced cocktails and food that was not up to par for the price we were paying/the other brunch options in that area.
Nicely done and creative dishes. Outstanding service from the moment you enter and through the entire experience. Will come back again with friends.
we celebrated a birthday with 6 of us and enjoyed the meal and especially the service.
