Seafood
The Salt Line menu and cuisine is New England embodied in Washington, DC. Drawing inspiration from the Northeast’s best oyster houses, The Salt Line focuses on seafood – both fish and shellfish. The raw bar features the best bivalves and crustaceans the east coast has to offer. In addition to the raw bar program, Chef Bailey and his team offer both comfort classic like fried clams and Stuffies as well as truly elevated chef-driven options like our seafood charcuterie. Finally, The Salt Line is the first restaurant in DC to participate in the Dock to Dish program which works directly with local fishermen to highlight only the freshest, most sustainable catches. “New England meets Chesapeake”

Everything was great! Our table was particularly wobbly though which was strange for an inside table.

Rock fish dish was under salted. Nice sear but underwhelming dish. The Creole ravioli dish came with a tomato sauce that lacked any punch. The waterman’s platter came with limped fried fish but otherwise ok. Second time but won’t be coming back.

The Salt Line is my neighborhood restaurant. I've brought many of my friends in the past 2 years. I very much appreciate Philip's service. He's always on point and very gracious. Merci Beaucoup for another fantastic dinner. The Crudo was exquisite as the fresh Lobster salad. See you soon. Karine

The Salt Line has the BEST shellfish and fish in the area. Their lobster roll is FILLED with the best parts of the lobster, but it's hard to single one dish. All of their dishes we've tasted so far have been over the top. Ambience is delightful and will be even more so in warm weather sitting outside. The service has been EXCELLENT each time we've been. Thank you!!

This is a beautifully designed, delicious place to eat. The selection of oysters was lovely and the rest of the menu was just as strong. Lovely cocktail menu with a particularly tasty hot toddy. Will definitely return for date night in the future. Thanks for an awesome meal.

Excellent food, drinks and service on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon. As good an experience as it was, I can only image how nice it will be with some milder spring weather overlooking the Anacostia River.

The food was delicious, the view was beautiful, and the service was fantastic—our server helped us with menu choices and even offered to swap a drink I didn’t care for after she helped me pick it out. Overall, a great dining experience.

For starters, our server, Nia, was outstanding!! Nia was very professional, informative, and helpful; job well done. Speaking of noise level, our party was very happy with the ambiance and noise level; quite nice being able to carry on a conversation without having to yell across the table. Thank you.

Our party were friends catching up on life. We went on a Monday holiday so the noise level was great. The fried clam appetizer was well prepared and worthy of a top notch New England seafood restaurant. The Portuguese seafood stew was tasty and reminded me of being in Fall River, MA, home to such a dish. The halibut poached in duck fat was tasty. I would have wished for a bit less of the braised radicchio. It's strong bitterness almost overwhelmed the unctuous texture and delicate flavor of the duck fat poached fish. Our waiter was sensitive to our desire to talk and gave us time for conversation while periodically checking in to see if we were ready to order the nextl course. Since it was a slow night we were not under pressure to turn over our table. We could here ourselves talk without raising our voices, a rare thing in the DC area. I would choose this restaurant for a dining treat any time out side of the baseball season!

For a dozen oysters, costs $45. That’s very expensive. I’ve never paid that much for small oysters. Other than that, the good tasted great.

Fun location but food was mediocre. We split the mixed seafood grill which consisted mainly of limp french fries. The grilled scallop and oyster bites (2 per species) was tasty, light and not greasy. The raw oyster shooter was all right, passable. Clam chowder tasted like cream and I didnt see any clams or potato bites in it. The halibut with grilled vegetables was again passable but couldve been brighter, bit of acid maybe. So many good restaurants in this town so I’d go elsewhere next time

From the time we arrived we just received service beyond our expectations. The hostess was on her game, the waiter and his assistant had personality and professional. I believe our waiter was Matt , he knew the menu, suggested a few house specials and picked up that it was my dates Birthday. They scored a ten in a great dining experience, finished the night by bringing a fudge sundae for the birthday girl! Sure will recommend and we will be back!!

The food was very tasty and well done! The only complaint was that we had reservations and still had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table which we thought was a bit ridiculous. Also there is no where to wait. As soon as you walk in there is the hostess stand and the little space between the door and the stand is a coat check rack. It was way too cold to wait outside so we were awkwardly waiting right in front of the door inside and right on the hostess stand. Luckily no one else was waiting.

The service was wonderful and accommodated the needs of my family with toddler in tow very easily. The kitchen and staff were responsive to our concerns about peanuts in the food due to an allergy. The food was generally very good as well, though my dish was a little on the salty side. And the atmosphere and views were excellent. Can't wait to go back.

The food attempts to be very New England authentic. Chowder needs more clams and the stuffed clams ('stuffies' on menu) had a little too much breading. The $26 lobster was very good and we would return for that item. Overall, it was a good (not great) dining experience. The owners clearly spent money on the interior of the restaurant - it is full of maps, photos and nautical decorations. The server (Gus) was very attentive and she deserves 5 stars.

The meal was simply overpriced. The food here is OK, but not a wow at all. SE DC is a hike for us, and this meal isn’t worth the drive or the cost. The baked oysters weren’t exciting, the beef tips were average, and the fries were cold and soggy. Only the oyster selection and the lobster roll were really good.
