Seafood
The Salt Line menu and cuisine is New England embodied in Washington, DC. Drawing inspiration from the Northeast’s best oyster houses, The Salt Line focuses on seafood – both fish and shellfish. The raw bar features the best bivalves and crustaceans the east coast has to offer. In addition to the raw bar program, Chef Bailey and his team offer both comfort classic like fried clams and Stuffies as well as truly elevated chef-driven options like our seafood charcuterie. Finally, The Salt Line is the first restaurant in DC to participate in the Dock to Dish program which works directly with local fishermen to highlight only the freshest, most sustainable catches. “New England meets Chesapeake”

Went for a tasting and got to try many things on the menu. Every appetizer was the bomb. The baked clams, razor claims and rock fish tartar were especially spectacular. Lobster rolls were outstanding. Will go again!!! Try it when the Nats are off season for a more relaxed experience.

Love, love, love the Salt Line. Thank you for a great “Oyster Schucking 101” class on Saturday. I’m at The Salt Line as often as possible, especially during baseball season. Thank you Chef Kyle and the rest of the staff that always make my time there so much fun!!!Stefanie, Ashburn, VA

We went to the Salt Line for a family celebration; even in the dark of winter it was a great decision. Staff greeted us warmly upon our entrance into the restaurant and seated us immediately. We enjoyed picking out oysters to sample. I had the garlic shrimp appetizer which was good altho a trifle too salty for my taste. The menu has a nice range of choices but it was somewhat limited in the number of choices in each category. Still, we would definitely return..in any season.

The restaurant and food were fine. The food tasted very good and was satisfying. The waiter was very good and helpful to meet special allergy and dietary requirements.

The online menu presented by this app was wrong, some of the items didn’t exist including the scallop dish I went there for. The waiter stated some of the menu items had never existed there. The prices on the online menu were not all correct, lower than the actual prices. Some by several dollars.

Our waitress was so friendly and our food came out quickly and was delicious! I don’t normally head out this far outside of Dupont Circle, however with the great service and ambiance I will likely be back again soon!

I had heard great things but portions were small for the price. Service was over- attentive (clearing each dish individually as each person was finishing last bite) and rushed. Lobster roll was ok but meat a little mushy. This was around 6 pm on a Friday night not in the middle of dinner rush.

The Pimento Crab Dip....AMAZING!!!! One of those items you can’t stop thinking about. We ordered one, ate it and ordered a second. The seafood was fresh, the drinks delicious and the s’mores flourless cake left you speechless. Our waiter was attentive and gave good recommendations. Definitely going back!!!

Very nice, even in winter!
Right by the river behind the Nats Stadium with outdoor seating. We reserved ahead in advance of our visit to the Stadium for the Enchanted festivities. Very new and nice decor/ambience inside....we'd like to come back in the summer when we can sit outside and maybe catch a Nats game. The Clam Chowder was very good and my Lobster Roll with light dressing (make sure you let them know how much) was delicious ($28.00). My wife enjoyed her New England Smash Burger (double patties) with onion rings for $19. The S'mores Lava Cake dessert was a bit different, all blended together in a cup for $13. We both had a glass of the Cab-Sav ($13/ea) which we thought was a bit pricey but.... Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. We took the Metro but there appears to be on-street parking and parking garages nearby.

We were early for our reservation and the outdoor bar with heaters were the perfect way to wait. They were able to seat us early and it just got better from there. Mack, our waiter was fun, engaging, attentive but not overbearing. The food was fabulous. Appetizers were generous and yummy. The Portuguese Stew was amazing. The dessert menu was probably our only let down- but our waistlines are probably thankful for that. The overall value was very good- we left with satisfied bellies and didn’t feel like we broke the bank. We WILL be back again.

The food was excellent. We had the clams with the bellies, stuffed clams, and Portuguese Stew. We also had some oysters and raw clams. All was excellent. Service was attentive. We had a 5:30 reservation and walked in at 5:30 and got seated right away. It's nice to have a restaurant with New England-style seafood nearby.

The Salt Line does the raw bar very well, but the cooked foods may need a little work. We ordered the Fried Octopus which was not very inspiring. They tried to do too much with the cephalopod with spices that don't mix and a plate that looks like the octopus squirted its ink, put it wasn't ink.

The Baked Pimento Crab Dip was tasty on its own, but the shrimp toast with Old Bay was overpowering the taste of the dip. I would have preferred a nice crusty bagette with the dip.

The Jonnie Cake was tasty. The only comment would be to season the smoked white fish a little more.

The Crispy Skin Rockfish was very good. The fish was cooked perfectly, with the skin nice and crisp and the flesh nice and flakey. The collard greens were cooked perfectly, but could use a little chopping instead of one giant leaf. Overall, the dish works.

By far, the highlight was the tower of seafood. We ordered a Kraken for a table of three and it was just enough to give everyone a sampling of the oysters on offer that day. The ikura (salmon roe) was briny and fresh, the shrimp cocktail was not overcooked, and the lobster and crab legs were a good appetizer before our main course. Only complaint was the smoked white fish needing more seasoning and the oysters would have paired better if there was a mignonette and more lemon wedges.

Overall, an enjoyable evening and I would recommend it to friends that plan to attend Nats games across the street.

The restaurant atmosphere was perfect- nice enough but casual My server was very attentive but not pushy so I was excited when the food arrived. To be blunt, the food was awful - I ordered the seafood tower which is a mix of approximately 18 raw oysters, lobster, clams, crab, shrimp, fish roe, and pickled clams. 1/2 of the tower was fine (oysters and shellfish). However the roe was not firm so half is the eggs were mushy. The clams simply tasted nasty. I don’t know when management last tasted their own menu, but they should try this one again - it clearly misses the mark.

My sister and I were very impressed with this place. Every bit of our visit was splendid! The food is superb, with the best hush puppies I’ve ever had, and I’m from Alabama!! The monkfish was tender, delicate and not overdone (as happens too often with this delicate fish). Service was attentive and cordial without being intrusive. The bar tender made us wonderful nonalcoholic drinks that were so refreshing and original!! We’re coming back!!

The Salt Line is a favorite for special occasions. Their food is of exceptional quality, but they also give you a good portion of it for the price. For example the clam chowder is about half clams, vs lesser chowders that are mostly potatoes. We had an attentive server that also gave us time to enjoy our meal and dessert/after dinner coffee, not just trying to clear the table.

Went prior to enchant. Great bourbon list, my lobster roll was pretty good. Fries were burnt, hush puppies burnt. Bread was dry. Wife didnt care for her food either.
Would go back for a lobster roll and beer prior to ball game. But not for sit down dinner with family

The ambiance was fun (we could see the water, which was nice), the service attentive, and there were a couple of truly excellent items: the rockfish tartare and the johnnycake with whitefish and salmon roe. But the food wasn't a standout overall compared to the price point and fanfare, and the house specialty cocktail I ordered was mediocre.

Super cute ambience with lots of natural light - nautical but modern - and nice looking outdoor space. We were in a corner booth which was really nice. Went for brunch so did not order many traditional seafood items. Had the Korean fried chicken which was good. It came on an underwhelming biscuit however the potatoes on the side were some of the best I’ve had and the side salad paired nicely with everything. Hot cocktails were also fun since it was a cold day. Overall would recommend and return!
