The Salt Line, the popular Navy Yard homage to New England’s iconic oyster
houses, will open a second location in Arlington’s burgeoning Ballston
neighborhood in fall 2021. Executive Chef Matt Singer will lead the
kitchen in partnership with Long Shot Hospitality Chef/Partner Kyle Bailey
and bring his own culinary influences to the menu. Guests can expect the
same New England classics found at the restaurant’s Navy Yard location in
addition to house-made pastas, an expanded selection of crudos, and daily
lunch service in the coming months.

First time to the new Salt Line in Ballston. I’ve been anticipating the opening and I was not disappointed. The oysters were perfect and we all liked our entrees, codfish and scallops
The Parkerhouse rolls are a must!
Our server was great.
Can’t wait to try the outdoor area, the bar looks like fun, very lively

I got the perfect storm which is supposed to be a double Bloody Mary with garnishes that included a lobster claw, oyster, and a cocktail shrimp. The server told us it was grand and that I would definitely be enough for a meal also given that it’s marked as a special item under their brunch meal menu (it’s also in the drink menu). However, it came in a colorful cup that seemed like would be for a child and the amount wasn’t more than a regular Bloody Mary. The worst part was that the lobster tail was so small it was even smaller than the shrimp and I barely got anything out of it. Even worse part was that the cocktail shrimp was yellowish-green in the side, and when I bit into it, it was completely raw. Cocktail shrimp is supposed to be completely cooked and chilled, but not RAW. That’s very dangerous so I let the server know. He was very nice about it, apologized multiple times and told us the lobster claw isn’t supposed to be that small and that he understands the entire thing seemed very underwhelming. He took the shrimp and the lobster and told be he would comp it as an apology. When I got my check, he has only comped my $6 clam chowder and said he couldn’t comp more than that. We spoke to the manager and she seemed very rude, calculating how much I drank (I was only drinking the Bloody Mary bc I had no other good to eat otherwise and didn’t think anything else would be good after that) and told me I could’ve ordered something else (what?!). So she said since I already drank half of the drink, she will still charge for the drink and discount for the lobster and shrimp. It didn’t seem like she worried about our experience or the potential food code violation and danger, and ONLY discounted however much I wasn’t able to eat. It was a horrible experience the way the manager takes to us and ruined a nice brunch I had planned for my friends that came from out of town. My one friend barely touched her dish as that was bad but it didn’t seem like they were calculating

We waited for 35 minutes when we had a reservation. The staff was very apologetic; however the restaurant was really loud and overpriced.

Loved the crispy octopus appetizer which came recommended! Pasta and scallops dish was also nice, though I've seen better looking and tasting scallops for the price (maybe Nov is a tough time to get them?). Great cocktails and wine list, ambience is awesome (New Englander bias). Surprised servers were maskless, hoping they're vaccinated but seemed a little too soon to take them off.

As always my time at salt line was great, but our server was very pushy and aggressive with trying to add more expensive options off the menu. As well as fold and hide that gratuity was included for a group larger than 6. I’ve been to salt line multiple times and have spoken highly of it, but the server left a bad impression for my friends and their first time. We are all open to tipping at least 20%, but the server’s actions made everyone hesitant to do so.

My girlfriend and I were coming to celebrate her academic achievement. Got there a little bit earlier and got some drinks at the bar outside. Service was great and the cocktails delicious. Went inside and out server Issa was incredibly kind and wonderful. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cool and fun neighborhood hangout with good food!

My husband and I liked the place so much that we went back, this time with my son and his girlfriend, who were very pleased with the place.
This time, Guillermo was our server, he was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, very polite and professional and fun to talk to.
We will definitely be back!

Overall good. Oysters a tad pricey. Would have been nice to have had six instead of four sea scallops with the bucatini considering price point. But definitely a great spot for seafood lovers!

Excellent food and ambiance with a mix of classic and creative dishes. Friendly and attentive waitstaff. Unfortunately our food took forever--others who ordered after us were served long before us--and one dish we ordered never made it to us. We'll be back and hopeful there are just some inconsistencies to work out in a new restaurant.

Great service, food was pretty good. Oysters were outstanding. The rockfish and waterman’s platter were both delicious. The clam chowder was too thin, mostly broth (minimal clams/potatoes, etc) and it wasn’t hot enough. Desserts were ok but wouldn’t order again. We tried the parfait and apple Brown Betty. Would rather just have chocolate cake, apple pie a la mode or even bread pudding.

We have been looking forward to Salt Line opening for months! We are a fan of the Navy Yard location and have New England family. We always enjoy their lobster rolls, oysters/raw bar, and fish. Our friends tried the pot roast and gave it thumbs up. Everything was well prepared. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has comfortable booths. Looking forward to trying the outdoor space. Make a reservation. It has been busy. Welcome to Ballston!

We've been here twice in the last few weeks since it opened. Our first time we had the octopus appetizer and shrimp cocktails. Shrimp are lovely and fresh. The octopus dish was really interesting and different than your run-of-the-mill appetizer. I had the swordfish. It was amazing!!! My husband had the rockfish which he loved. We shared the Brown Betty apple dessert which was your standard apple and cinnamon bake. We finished with drinks at the bar - the bartender was very friendly and knowledgable. I had a great espresso martini and my husband had the house's version of an old fashioned which he enjoyed. On our second visit we had the greens salad which I highly recommend! Husband had the yankee pot roast which seemed like an odd choice at a seafood place but it was delicious! I tried the bucatini and scallops. It was fine. It was a little spicy for my taste but the pasta and scallops were fresh. I will definitely get the swordfish next time we go! Husband had another of the house old fashioned and I tried their special gin and tonic. We both enjoyed them. Overall we've had good experience with the staff and food! The only downside is sometimes when it's busy it's really difficult to hear even the person next to you. So if you want to have a romantic date go at 8 vs 7pm so it's a little less crowded.

Restaurant was packed and tables were not within proper Covid social distance spacing which was concerning. Otherwise was an overall okay experience. Hopefully they’ll adjust table spacing even if it means a few less customers at any given time.

Had the Waterman’s Platter of Fried oysters (3 small), fried shrimp (6 small), scallops (4 medium) and fried white fish ( good portion). The fish sat in amongst enough French fries to feed two and platter therefore appeared larger than it really was.

My dining partner had the scallops and bucatini and said it was excellent and portions were good sized.

Raw bar was good with a wide variety of oysters from the East Coast available.

The hit though — and to not be missed — was the freshly baked Parker House rolls!

Will go back when weather is warmer and can dine on patio area.
