This place is awesome. Second time there and the service both times was spectacular. They have a great outdoor patio bar which is covered and well heated. Love the vibe of this place as well as the delicious seafood.

This was our first time at the Salt Line and we found it to be a wonderful experience. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly and attentive. The oysters were delicious, as was the baked crab dip. We then shared a lobster roll and roast beef sandwich, both of which were very good. I will return.

The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL, the outdoor bar and seating is stunning and offers a great option for those concerned with social distancing. We went for our anniversary dinner and were surprised with too complimentary glasses of champagne.
The oysters were amazing!
The food is also very good but a little over priced for the portion sizes which are small.
Over all it was a great experience and the service is excellent.

I was one of a group of 5 people who dined at the Salt Line. We started with large seafood appetizer which was different kinds of fried fish on a plate of french fries. We were a little disappointed with this even though it was pretty good. We couldn't very well identify the fish we were eating because of the amount of breading. We all got lobster rolls for dinner because we had heard they were so good, and they didn't disappoint. Some had the dressed lobster and some had the lobster with butter. Both were equally great! We all enjoyed the green salad that came with the lobster rolls. There was a good amount, and the dressing was delicious. We tried a couple desserts: the milkshake and the butterscotch dessert. They were both beautiful in appearance, but we thought the cake on top of the milkshake was dry and not very good. The milkshake itself was good. The butterscotch dessert was delicious. We all had wine and were happy with it, and a few had good after dinner drinks. I'd definitely go back. My main suggestion is that I'd like a better variety of appetizers.

Really great food and drinks!

Truly impressed by the quality of the food and the service.

The seasonal drinks were great! The smoking bishop was outstanding!

We tried several items and they were all great.

Our server Chante did an excellent job and was very friendly and knowledgeable. The entire staff we spoke to was friendly and helpful.

It is expensive. Priced a bit more than the other similar restaurants in the area and as a oyster bar fan I have hit most of them. This type of food and quality is not cheap, but they could be a bit more competitively priced. Overall, you get what you pay for though.

I will be returning.

Love the newest Salt Line in Balston. Went their for Sunday brunch. The entire staff, to include the hostesses, the waiters, and the bartender were super friendly and super helpful. The food (fresh oysters and the lobster roll) and the local beer selection were both excellent. Will definitely dine there again.

Had read pre-Covid rave reviews of Salt Line in DC and looked forward to trying it once it came to Ballston. The Smoking Bishop mulled wine drink was not hot as it should have been and lacked the spices typical of hot mulled wine drinks proabably because it had not been mulled enough. The oysters were great and so was the pimento crab dip. The clam chowder lacked strong flavor and was nothing special for a restaurant specializing in sea food. The lobster roll in butter was sweet and tasty and my daughter's bucatini with scallops special was delicious. My wife's crispy rockfish was very good, although she thought the half brussel sprout garnish was meager. My son complained that the halibut he ordered was too small in size. While you are probably expected to order sides, for the price of the entrees some sides should be included. The apple bread pudding dessert lacked did not have enough flavor and would have been improved with ice cream or whipped cream. My son's milkshake and daughter's banana split were fine. Our waitress was very attentive. But there were sizable time gaps between the appetizers and mains, and between the mains and desserts for which the kitchen is probably responsible. So all in all the meal did not live up to the raves I had read pre-covid. And I would not have rated this high on the value-for-money scale. Of course, some of the shortcomings above may be attributed to covid with inevitable inexperienced and short staffing on the day we visited, New Year's.

This was our first time going and all four of us said we’d def. Come back at the end of the night. The food was delicious. Really well cooked. The octopus app was my dinner and may be the best I’ve ever had. The only thing we agreed we’d critique the food on was needing a touch of salt but that may be Just us. Our waiter was really knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was great for a holiday get together!

The service didn’t quite match the price. They filled up all of the two-tops, which sat very close to each other, and left an entire row of booths empty. Kind of weird, especially in times of Covid. Also a bit weird considering I made a reservation, and I felt like I got the worst table in the restaurant. Then we got carded for drinks. I’m 34 and my date was 30. My date forgot her ID and so they refused to serve her and then didn’t provide us with any alternatives. (I.e., I’m sorry we can’t provide you with alcohol without an ID, can I get you an iced tea or something?) so we just drank water the rest of the meal. (Great water though). Just a weird experience considering the atmosphere and price reflects an upscale restaurant.

The food was excellent, but the cocktails and service were not. The three of us that ordered cocktails ended up not drinking them. At one point the waitress asked, and we asked if the cocktail was supposed to be vinegar heavy… she said no, took the drink, and walked away. The drink wasn’t replaced and we were still charged full price.

Ambiance and service were great. Our server was amazing . The food was meh for what it was . The salad dressing was awful. Fries too salty. The lobster roll was shredded. Tasted good but expensive for what it was . Would go back for appetizers and drinks but not for a meal. The outdoor bar looked fun and many tables with heaters.

Fun neighborhood restaurant. Food and drinks good but nothing great. Young crowd that caters to the Ballston neighborhood which is young professionals……so makes sense. Parking is very confusing with no suggestion from the restaurant online. As older folks that enjoy experiencing new restaurants……we won’t rush back, But it is a great addition to the Ballston Arlington neighborhood.

I thought the ambience in the restaurant was outstanding. It’s so beautiful inside and loved our table. The one thing that turned me was our waiter who was a bit late coming to our table then said ‘any questions’ before even saying hello. He seemed quite busy so it wasn’t too big of a deal, the service was then fine right after that. I thought the food was good but we spent more than we anticipated. The oysters we got were super expensive as was my one glass of wine The food everyone got was good so I will be back and again, I just loved the atmosphere.

I got the perfect storm which is supposed to be a double Bloody Mary with garnishes that included a lobster claw, oyster, and a cocktail shrimp. The server told us it was grand and that I would definitely be enough for a meal also given that it’s marked as a special item under their brunch meal menu (it’s also in the drink menu). However, it came in a colorful cup that seemed like would be for a child and the amount wasn’t more than a regular Bloody Mary. The worst part was that the lobster tail was so small it was even smaller than the shrimp and I barely got anything out of it. Even worse part was that the cocktail shrimp was yellowish-green in the side, and when I bit into it, it was completely raw. Cocktail shrimp is supposed to be completely cooked and chilled, but not RAW. That’s very dangerous so I let the server know. He was very nice about it, apologized multiple times and told us the lobster claw isn’t supposed to be that small and that he understands the entire thing seemed very underwhelming. He took the shrimp and the lobster and told be he would comp it as an apology. When I got my check, he has only comped my $6 clam chowder and said he couldn’t comp more than that. We spoke to the manager and she seemed very rude, calculating how much I drank (I was only drinking the Bloody Mary bc I had no other good to eat otherwise and didn’t think anything else would be good after that) and told me I could’ve ordered something else (what?!). So she said since I already drank half of the drink, she will still charge for the drink and discount for the lobster and shrimp. It didn’t seem like she worried about our experience or the potential food code violation and danger, and ONLY discounted however much I wasn’t able to eat. It was a horrible experience the way the manager takes to us and ruined a nice brunch I had planned for my friends that came from out of town. My one friend barely touched her dish as that was bad but it didn’t seem like they were calculating
