The food was incredible, and the presentation was a work of art!
Excellent food and service. Spice level was appropriate - not too hot, but you could increase the heat to taste. Went there for a business lunch. Very good service and it was easy to carry on conversations.
We went to The Salt because we read the San Francisco Chronicle review. Before arriving we had pretty much decided that we wanted to order the lambchops and the pulled pork. Both were very satisfying. I liked the pulled pork better and my husband preferred the lambchops.
For a starter my husband wanted the onion rings, but I am not a big onion ring fan, so I insisted on also getting the brussel sprouts. Huge surprise!!! My husband loved the brussel sprouts and I had to fight to get my share. The onion rings are very good and not greasy, but my husband did not love the mustard sauce. I ate an entire one of his onion rings, which is rare for me, because I do not generally like fried foods.
The food was delicious but the service was slow the night we were there, however the restaurant acknowledged it and comped us dessert. Well done! We will be back. We loved the pulled pork, the beet salad, the melon pana cotta. Can’t wait to try some of the other dishes. Heavenly flavors, a great chef.
Great service and great food!!
The Chef does a great job serving creative Indian inspired dishes. Herbs and spices are spot on and not a lot of salt. It has become our “go to” place for entertaining out of town guests who are foodies like us. The owner is very personable & makes sure we are taken cared of.
Every dish was amazing! Will be a repeat customer for sure.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The Chef is very impressive. I will be back!
we came here to celebrate my mom’s birthday. The food and service did not match how pricey the place is, am glad I gave them a try, not sure if I would return.
Having tested out this restaurant the weekend before, I was confident that it would meet my needs for my business team. We arrived at slightly after our reservation time and it was slow from the beginning. There were very few other parties in the restaurant and three days later I believe I could still be waiting for my entrée to arrive. Of the five entrées that we ordered two were delivered to the table and the other three took about 10 more minutes. That was inexcusable. We were the last party at the restaurant and our dirty plates stayed in front of us way too long and there was no one else to be attending. I wish I could trust going to The Salt again but if I were to do so I would not bring business associates with me.
In addition, when our server was asked for wine recommendations, she gave them easily. However, later when a drink was not up to par, she informed us that she could not try it as she was not 21.
GREAT fusion of Indian flavors with more continental offerings. Absolutely wonderful!
Talk about a WOW!!!! Amazing dining experience with absolutely delicious and innovative dishes. The watermelon starter was a spicy watermelon broth with small pieces of jicama, basil and watermelon that we shared. The lamb dish consisting of four perfectly cooked rib chops seasoned with Indian spices was served with mint chutney and topped with ribbon shaped parsnip chips. The salmon dish included fresh broccolini and vanilla truffle. Sides we ordered included the Maharajah rice with apricots and pistachios and naan made daily at Salt.
The drinks menu offered a fun wine list plus cocktails and beer.
We will go back often to try other dishes and libations!!
Located in the Canyon Lakes Center across from Club Sport on Bollinger Canyon Rd., SALT is a must for a unique dining experience.
The music was quite loud when we arrived. We asked and the volume was lowered. The restaurant was quite empty until about 7:00, then it’s started to pick up a bit.
The food was unique, great flavor and overall surprisingly well done.
If you are gluten free, make sure you let your server know; they do have a good selection.
Worth a visit to enjoy their delicious and unique menu and cocktails.
Fantastic food and cocktails
The worst. Do not go
Lovely. Definitely will return
Delicious and creative food with very attentive service. Mixologist even made us a special drink to go with our dessert. So nice to have such a high quality restaurant in our neighborhood.
While not east Indian ourselves, we eat Indian food a lot and can prepare basic dishes. Nothing here tasted like Indian influenced cuisine, not even the Maharajah Rice. The server recommended the American inspired entrees, such as Shrimp and Grits, Pulled Pork, however we wanted to share the apps and sides with our friend, who is originally from India. We ordered the eggplant, okra, Maharaja rice, panisse, garlic raita, and the beet tomato chutney. You could not taste any saffron in the rice and it didn't even taste like Basmati. The beet tomato chutney had a great color, but the texture and taste was the same as Heinz ketchup. As food people, we were really disappointed in everything and I was embarrassed that I had suggested we try this place. The best description of the food is bad bar food. The service is very unseasoned as well. No one approached our table for some time, even though the place had only a few tables. Once the server finally approached us, she told us the kitchen closed in 15 minutes! Right after that she told us she was going on a 10 minute break. We were not offered any dessert. The bussers were great and kept our water glasses filled, but outside of that, we were not made to feel welcome and the food was awful. As we were saying goodbye to our friend outside, several already inebriated people stumbled into the place to kick off the after hours bar scene. At that point, we were feeling somewhat grateful to have been rushed. The decor is costly, modern and not unappealing, but similar to the food, has no Indian touches. In my opinion, the owner really needs to reevaluate this concept, as it in no way delivers the fine dining Indian fusion cuisine we expected based on the description of the place.
Green T: Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am surprised that you expected to have traditional Indian dishes, given our restaurant clearly says Indian Inspired, American restaurant. this is first time, eggplant or panisse or beet-tomato dishes got any critique. We will take the feedback and we will do our due diligence. I do want to say this, I Just don't think we are the restaurant you are describing us to be. Not even remotely.
Overall, great experience. They can do better on improving the flavors, a little bit more spice... I would definitely go back.
Wow! What a treat to find such a quality restaurant in the Diablo Valley! Brought to mind excellent dining experiences like August1Five, Dosa, and Amber India, all without the inconvenient hassle of going to SF. We were thoroughly enchanted by the food and charmed by the kind and thoughtful staff.
This is a new restaurant and still has a lot of bugs to work out. The wait staff was enthusiastic but didn’t have answers to a number of questions about the menu. The owner is a wonderful guy and he spent several minutes our table asking how we liked the food etc. It is obvious that Salt and its success is very important to him and that he will
Do all he can to make it a success. The pulled pork nan was excellent. I think it is overpriced with a chicken dish I had priced at $29. The restaurant has possibilities and I hope it makes it.
My fiancé and I live across the street from the plaza and were intrigued by the menu plus they sent a 20% off coupon for neighbors! I looked up reviews prior to coming and made note of a few common complaints: slow service, no proper cutting utensils and the owner being present but not speaking to all the patrons.
We arrived on a Friday evening to a half full restaurant but there was a host, 4 servers and I believe 2 bartenders. So they definitely heard the customer pains and brought in people to ensure a smooth dinner service!
Food: 4/5. We ordered Onion Rings, Green Chicken and the Pulled Pork for starters. Fully expecting portion sizes to be small AF since it's sold as "fine dining" but we were pleasantly surprised! The portions were basically single serve entrees and were DELICIOUS. Only complaint is the dipping sauce for the onion rings was mustard...otherwise, amazing flavors and presentation. Entrees were the Lamb Rack and Butter Chicken, the lamb was cooked and seasoned well but the butter chicken was not the Indian staple I'm used to so I would skip that next time, it wasn't that hearty creamy curry but rather a thick tomato-like sauce. It wasn't bad but it was butter chicken. For dessert we have the gulab jamun cake and vanilla ice and OHEMGEE was it good!!!! Perfect balance of flavors and textures!
Drinks: 5/5! We each ordered a couple of drinks throughout the meal, I had the Rose which was a fresh and flavorful gin drink to die for and the Saffron which was tart and delicious. My fiancé had some mezcal drink and It. Was. Amazing. !
Service: 5/5 after reading the reviews I had my own idea of what it would be like but was pleasantly surprised and refreshed to see every single yelp complaint was addressed during our meal. The restaurant was well staffed, drinks and food were FAST and we were served a proper steak knife to eat the lamb with. The owner also came by where we shared our opinions of the meal and offered honest feedback as to where they c
The food was good! Warm salty olives for appetizer. My husband had the shrimp & grits, they were perfect. I had butter chicken that was delicious & a little spicy. Naan was toasty warm & a litle charred. Saffron cocktail was refreshing.
The staff was friendly without being intrusive. Modern atmosphere, low lights, felt intimate. Unfortunately for everyone who is missing out, the place was almost empty. I think if they were down by the Lot they'd be packed.
SAlt is needed in Food :)! thats all I could say
Lovely restaurant! Great service and a wonderful fusion of Indian and contemporary Western cuisine! Wonderful traditional flavors implemented in imaginative ways!
Tasty twist on familiar foods. My second time here in 2 weeks. Fun cocktail menu along with a nice bar area.
The restaurant decor is well done. I recommend for business lunches and couples or family dinner. We will be back soon.
The food is fission cuisine with just some essence of Indian flavors. Very good service; but the identify and ambience need some work. A little bit pricy given the total experience.
Food was amazing, very tasty and lots of flavor, with great presentation
Lovely ambiance, great service and dishes were well prepared-looking forward to new menu in July!
Pretty restaurant. Initial service was awful. Very slow. Turns out they only had 1 wait person initially. Another showed up late and the hostess pitched in to help so service became very acceptable. Maybe just start up issues. The food was unique and excellent especially the eggplant and lamb. Portions are fairly small so one should not be starving. Specialty cocktails were good except mine...a scotch based concoction that was pretty bad. Biggest gripe though is the butter chicken. It was tasty and spicy but 5 pieces of chicken, each about a third the size of an iPhone 6 for $22 was a rip off. This is CHICKEN...not lobster.
I will try again in a month or so but this was not a great dining experience
We didn't see any resemblance to "fine dining" at our Friday night dinner.
We were seated next to the noisy end of a group of 8, which included 4 kids sucking on ring-pops, dropping water on the floor, jumping on their seats, one kid trying to crawl out from behind another kid, etc.
Nobody seemed to care that all of this was happening within 2 feet of where we were seated,
... on the same long couch that transfers the vibrations!!!!
We ordered our cocktails and small plates. It wasn't easy to enjoy the cocktails in a Chuck-e-Cheese kind of ambiance. The charred carrots were a disaster, the okra was 8 small pieces for $14.
My wife looked exhausted from "all the activity" on the couch next to her. Hoping to change our table, I waited for someone to walk by. Finally I got up and walked towards the front desk, but there was nobody there ... where was the owner, or the staff?
New restaurant, short staffed on a Friday evening!!
We were ready to leave, definitely didn't want to sit there for an entree. Fortunately by the time someone came to ask if we would like to order something else, the group on the table next to us had left.
So we decided to stay a little longer, and try another small plate. This time we ordered the pulled pork. We loved it.
After we left, we saw the owner Srikanth, standing outside, talking to someone!! He wanted to know if we had enjoyed the dinner. We said NO we hadn't.
Shouldn't he have been inside the restaurant, overseeing if everything is going well, introducing himself to the guests, answering questions about the items on the menu, his vision behind opening this restaurant, etc.
Thank you for comments. I can understand your frustration on a night with high hopes. I am sorry that we did not live up to your expectations. We should have understood you, and accommodated your need. I will take the blame for it. I tried my best to talk to every table, some how i missed your table. I think i connected with your wife in yelp review, and thanks a ton for your willingness to give us another try. I am looking forward to meet you & your wife and give our best effort to serve you.
Wonderful addition to San Ramon dining. Would come back to try other items on the menu.
New place you'd expect some small hiccups and coordination issues with timing etc. Staff was friendly, explained the menu very well. The food tasted great and unique. I hope they do well long-term
This restaurant(it was only open 6 days when we ate there) has a somewhat limited menu. There was a chicken dish that was outstanding and the lamb chops were excellent. The menu is a bit hard to understand and the amount of food is a bit lean for the price. Oddly the naan was not very good (we eat a lot of naan).
We will go back but our main question is: Is the quality of the food worth the price.
Not much choice in the menu. Expensive. Small portions. Had to wait a long time for food and then it didn’t come out together. My husband and son had finished by the tome my main came out. Husband’s starter til come out till after we had all finished but they didn’t charge us for it so that was good. There are so many choices for good food at good prices so won’t probs my visit again.
We were there for the soft opening- service was a bit slow and one dish was a bit cold
The Salt had was still in the soft opening phase but everything we had was enjoyed. The combination of American and Indian flavors was delicious. We would recommend The Salt to anyone. Looking forward to returning.
