The Rum Runner
Window seats and outdoor seating is first come first serve.**
Welcome to the newly rebuilt, redesigned, and re-imagined Rum Runner! Although a lot has changed over the years, we still look to provide you and your family with same great experience you have come to remember and love. As always, we are featuring exquisite cuisine, paired wine, creative drinks and live entertainment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Always enjoy the location but sometimes I think the staff needs better training.
Seating? Has to change because we were seating interior when the deck seating was nearly empty.
Service? Moderateaccommodation but attention to details was good.
Food? Possibly the most average in town.
Value? Remove the water front views and its diner food at best.
The food was terrible. My fiancé ordered the crab cakes with mashed potatoes. They 100% used boxed/powdered potatoes for their mashed potatoes. The crab cake was also burnt on the bottom, like it was sitting on a toaster or pan for too long which seeped through the crab. I ordered the Salmon which was bland. Along with canned corn they served for their “fresh Jersey corn” relish. The best part of this dinning experience was the wine, the bread, and the view. Other than that, paying $120 for subpar food to this degree is a robbery and they should be embarrassed. Additionally, the place stunk of fish, which is a sign that freshness is lacking. By far the worst dinning experience we’ve ever had.
Great food and service.
Perfect venue for beautiful sunny day at the shore. Sat at outdoor waterside table (available on 1st come, 1st serve basis). Fantastic views. Food & alcohol a bit pricey but chalk up the extra charge for scenery. Both Mahi Mahi & Cod excellent. Martinis are generous in size. Impeccable service.
Kind of overpriced for what you get. I ordered the Salmon Nicoise salad. The dressing may have been the best thing about the dish. Otherwise, the portion of veggies was small and the salmon was dry. Two people at my table ordered the Pan Seared Salmon and felt the same way - small portion of sides and dry salmon. One person ordered the Baked Cod and ate a couple of unenjoyable bites and didn't touch the rest. The restaurant was on the cold side, so bring a sweater or jacket. Our server was attentive (but not overbearing), friendly and helpful with suggestions. Definitely a let down given the great reviews. Maybe it was an off-night, but wouldn't venture back.
It was fabulous! We had such a nice time. Food was delicious - service was great and we enjoyed a surprise boat parade on the river.
Rum Runners food was very good. The service was slow. Took a while to get the waitress over to take the order maybe 20 mins from when we sat. Then took a while to get drinks and appys my husband waited 40 minutes to get his Pellegrino and the waitress never got it the manager came over one we complained and he apologized. No drinks or food were even comped. We had same bad service at Aunt Butchies in Marlboro previous weeks before they comped the whole meal everything! Will think twice about going back there may try another one of the McCloones before going back to this one.
Ithe noise level was so loud we could barely talk across the table
It definitely took away from the night. The place is beautiful and the food good but I am not rushing back especially on Saturday night
The ambiance and quality were excellent, great music as well, in the bar area. A beautiful place for a special dinner. Would highly recommend it.
Entree should not be served while appetizer is still being eaten.
View is wonderful but not a good experience trying to enjoy a nice meal
Too noisy and waiters standing around instead of serving
Our table was ready for us, and our server was a delight. The food was better than I expected; my fish was cooked perfectly and delicious! A beautiful evening on the Jersey Shore!
Usually, the food is very good. This was our third time here. My husband's fish and chips were extremely dry and my salmon was good. Beautiful views.
Great setting on the water;
My daughter was in town
Service is excellent
View amazing at sunset
We recently visited RumRunner for a business meal with a colleague who was visiting from Ohio. Our meal was wonderful, service on point and we all enjoyed the beautiful view despite a pouring thunderstorm. We would highly recommend Rum Runner for a special night out.
Service views food atmosphere everything about this restaurant was incredible a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for if your in the area this is a must go to
We went back to the rum Runner for our third wedding anniversary dinner. Had a wonderful experience, food was excellent as well as the service. Had wonderful view of the river at sunset!
This was my first visit since they redid the place and am extremely pleased with the new decor, food and ambiance of the place. Definitely come back.
We went here for a date-night and it was pretty much perfect. The views are amazing, the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. A bit expensive, but worth it. Service could have been better, no bread or silverware/napkins were ever brought. All in all, would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
Went there for my birthday.
Food was good, zero complaints. Shrimp and lobster bisque to start along with french onion soup and baked brie (for two of us). All were excellent. For the main course I chose the flat iron steak which was also good. From the bar we ordered a cosmopolitan and a martini, neither were particulaly good. The restaurant was very crowded as it was a busy Saturday summer evening, everything felt rushed. The food came out before they removed any of the appetizers which we barely had time to finish and it was so loud we had a hard time hearing each other.
Birthday dinner on a date
6:30 Reservation. Seated at 8:00pm. Hostess kept saying 15 minutes. No offer of Drinks or Dessert as an apology.
“We’ll get you dessert next time you come in” !
That won’t be anytime soon.
Great atmosphere and views. Our server was efficient and attentive. The food was mediocre and over priced. Don’t go there hungry.
Food was good, but small portions, prices were a little high for the size of the food. Overall really nice ambiance and location. Service was also good. Again food portions were much less than desirable.
Great food great service great atmosphere will definitely go back
The views are spectacular! Sunset over the Navesink. What could be more beautiful? The service is terrific. I recommend the Navesink Cosmo at the bar, and the salad was deliciously fresh.
We were seated outside at the most perfect table, enjoyed some drinks and had a wonderful dinner. The risotto is great and the salmon was delicious.
Understandable pricey, if u offered family style service as well I think that would really benefit a family of 6 or more to frequent more often.
The food was delish the sunset was outstanding!!
Fabulous late lunch on the deck. Our server was great! The food was very good. And, I love the setting of this long-standing/orginal restaurant of Tim McLoone's. Could not have been a better start to a fun birthday weekend!
Excellent dinner, our server was great even came and took pictures for us outside
Horrible night we had a reservation and waited 45 minutes and the food took so long. Not the experience we used to get!
Great atmosphere. Music was great also.
We recently dined at Rum Runner our experience could have been better. Our server Morgan was very good, the crab cakes we ordered needed to be moist and more flavorful . Our seafood risotto was less then appealing with a few clams and a couple of shrimp again not much taste.
The young servers came twice to our table with someone else’s food. We all understand mistakes happen It’s just part of what to expect when you dine here. The live music and sunsets masked the overall experience.
We had a reservation and showed up a few minutes early and were tike they were looking at a few tables but to go to the bar. :30 later I went to the front to check on the ETA of our table and they sat us right away. It was like they forgot we were there. At the bar, we order 2 drinks, a Corona and a mixed drink and it was $18. I didn’t expect to pay that in a restaurant/bar in Sea Bright. Once we sat, we were not offered any bread ( all the other tables did) which is not a huge deal. In terms of the meal, the shrimp lobster bisque soup was great but the seafood risotto was probably the worst I’ve ever had. It was a scoop of risotto surrounded by some clams, shrimp and mussels. Again, not what I was expecting. Overall, it was way too overpriced for average at best food. And it was really loud and they had live music which only made it louder.
Terrible!!!! Health code violation !!!!’ condensation dripping into our drinks , food and on our persons!! Disgusting experience!!! The worst part was that the manager was aware of the dripping air conditioning from above and still sat us at the table also pointed out that several of the tables had the same issue.
Tim Mcloone will be made aware!
