First time at Rum Runners and we were super impressed. Excellent food. Plenty of choices for our non-seafood friends. Price was comparable to the food and service. Our waiter was extremely attentive and very nice. The only downside is we were sat next to an engagement party of about 25 people so it was a bit noisy when we first got there. Thankfully it quieted down a bit once their food was served. Will definitely be back!
Our 3rd time here. As always, being right on the Sea Bright strip the ambiance and views are great. Unfortunately I think they were a bit understaffed this particular night. We waited 20 minutes just to get water and have a drink order taken. Once our waitress realized this (or was assigned to us) she came through great for us.
Understanding ourselves the short staffed situation, we ordered our drinks AND meal all at once and everything came out fairly quickly after that. I just wish I could recall our waitresses name because she really made an effort to make up for the wait.
Food as per our other visits was very good but yes a little pricey. You pay for the location and view.
We didn't have dessert but we've had it before and they're all good here.
Overall I still recommend the Rum Runner for a nice "date night."
pleasant dining experience. great service. wonderful view.
Beautiful views. Waitress was super friendly and attentive. Food was good -albeit overpriced but paying for the atmosphere
Great place for a special occasion. The views are beautiful.
The service was great. The view is lovely. For Brunch, it got noisy as the
restaurant had more people. We will be back.
Arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, waited almost a 1/2 hour to be seated. Once we were at our table everything was great. Luke, our waiter, was phenomenal! Drinks and apps came out quickly (not a fan of the Island Calamari). Our entrees were really good -Pan Seared Salmon and Dark and Stormy Pork Chop.
The poor review is not for the horrifically bad service, but for the fact that the restaurant was unable or unwilling to address their own errors, correct them, or even say sorry. We waited and waited for our entree while food was brought to us for other tables, and our server assuring us that our food would be right out (A LIE - PROBLEM NUMBER 1). I had to get up and go to the maitre'd stand and threaten to leave before management was aware or seemed to care. I was then told that they would check with the kitchen. When no food or other information was forthcoming, we demanded the check without the entrees (by now people who had come in after us had been served and left), but were told food would be right out. 2 of 4 entrees were delivered, and then 2 more. NO ONE SAID I'M SORRY OR ASKED HOW THE FOOD WAS - PROBLEM 2). I asked for the check, and received it with more than double the food we ordered. It appears that our waitress had put two different tables' food on our check, which was why our food never came. Mistakes happen, but no one seemed to care. I found a manager and pointed out that rather than offer us an accommodation, THEY MORE THAN DOUBLE BILLED US (PROBLEM 3). I suggested that she fix the check ASAP and that she should consider an accommodation. Rather than do that, she spent a fair amount of time wrestling with the compute, and finally did come back with a corrected check with an accommodation. NO IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED CHECK, NO APOLOGY AND THE STAFF AT THIS POINT WAS STUDIOUSLY AVOIDING WALKING BY OUR TABLE (PROBLEM 4). We all make mistakes, and owning up to them and fixing them is a great way to earn my loyalty. Rum Runner clearly made the decision not to do that and to write me off as a customer. I will abide by their wishes. Listen to Mr. McLoone's music, he is a talented musician, but I would not patronize his establishment.
Our waitress was so lovely and she went and beyond for making it a special meal for us.
Decent food, terrible service.
It was a beautiful day to sit on the back deck and watch the boats pass by while we had drinks and a lite lunch. Our server, Kaitlynn, was super sweet, personable and attentive.
It was wonderful! Loved the piano man in the background. Views, food, service - all great.
Service was awful starting with walking us all over the restaurant till we got a table. We got no menus until I stopped someone and asked for them. Our waitress Julia was awful. She asked if she should bring the salad with the main course. After 30 minutes I had to ask her for bread and butter. The pasta Norma was awful. The linguini with claims was fair. I had to stop the manager and ask for our bill. What a disappointment! We were looking forward to it. We had a private party here on a July 31 and the service and the food were marvelous
First time, had no idea what to expect. Great location. Not a bad seat in the house. Food was delicious and the kids were happy with their selection too. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Will definitely return.
Cannot beat the views!! Menu is good but on the higher side price-wise and not as varied as some in the party would have liked - wanted more fish choices. Both brunch and lunch menus being available on a Sunday was a plus. Service was terrific.
Overall good experience after being seated. Waited approximately 45min past our reservation time to be seated which wasn’t so fantastic.
Family day at Monmouth for our freshman cheerleader.. so fun.. and topped it off at Rum Runners for dinner! What an absolutely beautiful restaurant overlooking the water!
Menu and food were very good. We were dining with family and had not seen them in a while. We were slow to review the menu and order. Or server was Luke. He was excellent. Never rushed us but let us know that he was ready when we wanted to order. Will return for sure.
Food was slightly above average
drinks were on the high side pricewise.
Service was ok despite being very busy
We dined outside and view is awesome.
Had a wonderful lunch sitting out on the deck facing the water. Beautiful, Sunny day, great food.
Seemed to be in a grey zone for service. Just couldn’t get past first drink and appetizer to order more drinks and dinner. Finally left
We needed a great experience with friends. This is our “go -to”place to have a special evening. Even the middle of winter is lovely here. But last night was the top. We got an outside table on a Full Moon night with perfect outdoor temperature. Our server, Kaylee was great but you were understaffed obviously. Everything took sooo long and some drinks arrived at the enf of
dinner. We were having a great time so our 3 hours there was ok and we’re still coming back.
McCloone's restaurants excel at views and ambience due to their locations directly on the beach or river. Food is good but not outstanding. The staff is young, overwhelmed and inexperienced. We ordered whole lobster dinners that were served with no extra napkins, no small lobster forks, no shell crackers, no lobster bibs, no wet naps and no bowls for shells. Had to ask waitress for all this stuff so we could eat the lobsters. Finally got shell crackers and they were too small to fit around the lobster legs. Unacceptable for such a high priced seafood restaurant.
If a water view and ambience is your thing the Rum Runner is great. If service and great food is important to you I would not recommend the Rum Runner or any McCloone's restaurant.
Beautiful atmosphere…. no cheese came on the cheeseburger, lots of fly’s which were a slight annoyance since we were sitting inside.
Salmon was delicious. There was no horseradish to accompany the cocktail sauce, server said they were out of horseradish., so the shrimp cocktail was a bit dull. Very skimpy small shrimp. Should of been jumbo and meaty.
All in all I was a bit shocked at the overall experience, I’m a local and it could and should have been a lot better, quality and cleanliness.
Love the Rum Runner! We only wish they’d use more environmentally friendly paper straws!
We hadn’t been back to Rum Runners since Sandy, and Tim McLoone did an amazing job renovating the property. Spectacular views! The food was solid. Nothing blew us away, but it was very good. It’s all about the decor and the views though. We’d go back for sure!
Great location and great view. Building is beautiful. Food was good, nothing over rated but good. Service was good and definitely would go back.
Excellent food and service. Amazing view.
Love the restaurant. The food was not good. Served cold and tasteless. Hope they can fix it bc the restaurant is gorgeous
The place is physical beautiful, with fantastic water views. Service was friendly and professional. But, alas, food is only mediocre.
Caesar’s salad was drenched in lemon and my cod was very bland. My wife did enjoy her crab cakes, but I thought they had too much filling.
Overall it was a pleasurable experience although the wait for the food was a little long and replenishment of our drinks the waitress was very professional and explaining that they were a little backed up
Good for any type of occasion!
Great food excellent service but understaffed
Always a great time - wonderful food and amazing staff. Views are the best! Hostess even accommodated us when we asked to be moved from the outside deck because of the wind. Drinks are delightful and food was fantastic!
After two hours still no entries, apps are ok, entrees we packed to go when they arrived had no taste, it was not clean floor filthy
Was looking for a place with their own parking lot & reservations ! I had my 99 year old mom with me,( who walks) and young grandchildren. The Rum Runner had all this & more!
Valet parking & a elevator . What a wonderful place! The staff was incredibly nice & great service. The food was wonderful. Will definitely return.
Seemed short staff. Waited over 1/2hour after reservation time. Another 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. Waiter was fair at best. This was for a 9 pm reservation. You would expect better for this price point.
We were seated right away with our reservation which was great. Our waiter (came to find out later his name was Christian) was right there to serve us and take our drink order, 2 glasses of wine and a martini, nothing too drastic. It took just about 20 minutes for our drinks to be served for which Christian was very apologetic and advised the bar was backed up. Ok I guess. My husbands martini came with no olives which he requested and Christian advised he would get them which he did. Our appetizers and dinners were served in a timely fashion. At no time did Christian come over to check on us because it was obvious that his manager was having an issue with him as we saw her point to him and signal him over in a not so nice fashion that we knew Christian was in trouble for something. Next we saw Christian walk past our table with his back pack on his back. A few minutes later we saw Christian walk by our table in street clothes and out the exit. Well, that was a first. Now we sat waiting to see who was going to, at this point, just give us our check so we could get out of there. I signaled another waitress over and asked what happened with Christian and advised that he was doing the best he could under the conditions he was having to deal with. She said there was a situation and she would now be taking over our table. At that point, just give us our check please and we left. I sure hope Christian got his tip from us because I would hate to think that it went to someone who just handed us our check. I don’t know what the “situation” was that happened with Christian but I would think that management would wait until the end of his shift to address it an not when he had several tables of customers who he walked out on. For the amount of money spent on dinner, I will never go back or recommend that establishment. Sure hope the wedding going on upstairs got better service than we did downstairs.
