The Royale Ratings and Reviews
Our burgers were ordered medium and were brought out very well done. One guest in our party ordered the Salted Caramel Sundae which had home made whipped cream on it that was way over whipped and tasted waxy also the menu said there would be salted caramel and walnuts in the sundae which neither were. Just a plain bowl of over whipped cream and vanilla ice cream with a smidge of regular jarred caramel sauce. Not at all like described in menu. On a plus note their onions rings were the only highlight. Over all very disappointing trip for our group. Not worth a return visit for all of us.
Food was very good. Service was average. However they do not take my favorite credit card "Discover" as I learned when I tried to pay the bill. In addition, we made reservations through OpenTable and arrived on time. The next morning I got an email from OpenTable that we did not honor our reservation which was obvously an error on the restaurant's part. I think I have it straightened out but we thought this was a lack of conscientiousness on the part of the restaurant. Considering the fact that they don't take the "Discover" credit card and they messed up the OpenTable reservation so that I didn't get the points (I think OpenTable will assure I get the points), we probably won't be dining here again soon. There are plenty of very good hamburger restaurants in Plano and Dallas.
I will repeat the words our 5 year old grandson told to the server as he was holding his thumb us -- this place is awesome. I am not sure I would use that tired word, but it was very very good. We went with our daughter and one of her sons. We thought an order of onion rings would complement the fries which came with the burger, but the 5 onion rings per order would not be enough. We were wrong. It was more than enough between the three adults. And the shakes were outstanding. I had a shot of bourbon in my salted caramel shake. It was great! Oh yes, the burgers were excellent. In short, a burger/fries, onion rings and a shake was more than enough food. We left happy. Two very minor disappointments -- no malts. I like malts, but it made little difference. Second, the restaurant cancelled our OpenTable reservation after we arrived. That meant that I had to e-mail OpenTable to get credit. Lesson learned -- tell the restaurant that you had an OpenTable reservation so you get credit. In summary -- four thumbs up.
Love the decor! Our server was attentive but not clingy! Love this. The food:
Fried pickles-amazing batter that clung to the thick dill pickles and good ranch for dipping.
Smokehouse burger-great patty, needed more sauce and jalapeños.
French fries-awesome!!!! Fresh, perfectly crispy!
Banoffee shake-what a wonderful creation tua was!! Think of a perfect marriage between banana pudding and caramel!
Serious Management issues. We specifically went there to use our $20 gift card from Open Table. the server told us that he had been trained as a host and no one had ever told him about open table. the current hostess knew nothing about open table. not good. i suggest you remove them from the open table program. I'm a fan of the Restaurant but there seems to be a training issue.
Had been wanting to try this for a while. We had the Americano burger with cheese and an order of dirty fries, which have queso cheese and peperocinis. Very good and enough for 4 to share. The onion rings were large and crispy. They were the best I have had recently. It was not busy for a Saturday night. Our waiter was new but tried hard. Our service was good. Some of the other staff were just hanging out in the bar areawith one girl laying across a table. I thought inappropriate even for a casual restaurant. Maybe an off night due to the holiday weekend. Would try again.
Burgers are good quality for the price. Bar drinks are insanely expensive for what you get--$11 for a Moscow Mule that was about 2oz of drinkable and the rest of the mug PACKED with ice. I ordered a Bourbon and Diet Cole in a pint glass, which was served in a highball glass ("it's against the law to do it any other way"--total BS, since I get that everywhere I go). Iced Tea is ONLY pomegranate flavored--they don't have regular plain 'ol iced tea.
For the price, not bad if you leave out the bar.
Another place with potential, but that potential is being ruined by a less than enthusiastic wait staff. So many restaurants these days are being run and staffed by "children", who can't quite fathom good customer service. I would not spend my money to eat here, since you can get better service and better food for the same money at Kenny's Burgers in Plano.
I should of read reviewed before I got there. Came when it was dead on a Saturday afternoon, hostess took forever to realize I was there. Tried to be nice and patient (work in the industry). She sat me and I didn't get greeted for a while, then a server asks what I want to drink as he's walking by. Not kidding, it took 15 minutes to get my cocktail. There were 4 other tables in the entire place. The rest of my party arrived and we decided to go elsewhere for lack of service. Reviews on the food didn't look great and pricy, I also ordered my drink off the brunch menu-was charged $9 when it should of been 5!
The food was just ok nothing spectacular. We ordered mimosas and we had to ask for them again to get them. We ordered queso for a starter and it came out after our food was brought to the table. It just seemed like we were being rushed even though the place was pretty empty. The waiter was nice but nothing seemed to work for us on this visit.
Poor service (though server was very friendly) at lunch even though it wasn't crowded at all. Burger(turkey) was ok. Server was unaware that there is free french fries on Tues. She went to check and decided we were correct. Much better burger places elsewhere.
I order from this restaurant all of the time via door dash. Love it. However, last night was horrible while dining in the actual restaurant. It took 15 minutes for the server to bring us our drinks, which only half of us received. We had to ask 3x to remind him we needed the rest of drinks, only to have them incorrect. We drank them anyway...we were thirsty. Our server never came back to check on us, but was seen standing by the kitchen with the rest of the servers chatting it up. I'll never dine IN again. Horrible horrible service.
Food was great but service was horrible. I made a reservation and requested a booth. When we got there at our reservation time, they didn't have a booth available, and we had to wait 15-20 minutes for our seat. Also, even though I put on my reservation that it was my friend's birthday, they never acknowledged it was her birthday. Once seated and ordered, they brought our appetizer out at the same time as our burgers. They put bacon on my burger, even though I requested no meat. Our waiter didn't come around to offer refills, and we all had empty glasses. Really disappointing experience.
Second visit. First visit was decent, good enough to return. On the first visit, it was packed on a cold night with our table right by the front door, so I overlooked some service deficiencies and the food not being hot enough. Our server said we should come back on a Thursday because burgers and beers are half price. So we did.
I double checked the website last Thursday morning and sure enough, they touted half-priced burgers and beer. So we went with our kids, and let them order off the adult menu due to the promotion. When we sat down, there was a promotional sign on the table about the half price special. But when we started to order, the waiter informed us that the manager decided they were no longer doing the promotion. I let him know that was the primary reason we came in, and the manager agreed to let us have the promotion. So we all ordered our burgers, and my wife and I ordered a beer. All good, right?
Our waiter came back a few minutes later and informed us the half price burger was only available for the basic burger. The sign on the table clearly showed one of their fancier burgers, with onion rings and other interesting toppings. But whatever, we'll go with the standard burger. He said the kids didn't need to change their order though - it turns out to get the half price deal, you have to order a burger AND a beer. Ok, so now I'm simply annoyed. The place was virtually empty, but service was slow and, well, frankly just odd.
Burgers were average at best. I have no idea why they asked if their standard 'medium' was ok for us, because all 4 burgers were very well done. Their take on nachos with tater tots was pretty good, although I struggle with cheese whiz as an ingredient in a restaurant. Fries were really good. Milkshakes are overpriced and not good enough to justify it.
Too many other options in that area that are much better. For burgers, I'll take Moo-yah, Five Guys or SmashBurger over this any day. Won't be back.
Worst burger I've had in a long time, possibly ever. Girlfriend and I both ordered wagyu beef burgers and they were dry and tasteless and the cheese on them tasted like the "Pssst" store brand waxy fake cheese. We also ordered mac & cheese but never received it. Luckily we weren't charged for it and didn't want to spend more time or money there after only eating a couple bites of our burgers. The cheese tots also had gross liquid nacho cheese instead of melted real cheese on it. For a place that is supposed to be known for magnificent burgers, we wanted something better than (or at least on par with) what we could make at home with ingredients from Walmart.
We had reservations for 8pm and arrived on time to a packed restaurant. Checked in and told that it would be 45 minutes for a table. No apologies or offers to accommodate us or at least offer us drinks from the bar. When we pressed them for why it would be such a long wait when we had reservations we were told that someone had bought out the front half of the restaurant on short notice which caused the shortage in available tables. Totally understand the restaurant not wanting to pass up an opportunity to fill the place but it was done at our expense. We drove over a half hour just to go to this place and then they rudely told us to wait. Extremely disappointed at how it was handled or rather the lack of handling.
3rd visit - not much has changed since other visits - we went back for the happy hour but bar service is very slow. our waiter was new and gets credit for trying. the food is average. was surprised to learn this restaurant is a John Tesar project. I truly wonder if he has ever been. it's very forgettable.
