The Roundhay Fox
Everything was great. Especially the service. The only thing I would say slightly let the side down was the roast potatoes, they just weren’t very crispy at all! Usually they are fine though.
We made a booking for the 27th December and turned up and waited by the desk. We waited ten minutes and nobody came so we left and went elsewhere.
Mains arrived nearly 2h after ordering. Not enough front-of-house staff.
All meals were so well done. The fish required a steak knife to cut. Was inedible. The gravy on another couldn’t hide how poor the pork belly was. All in all it was a terrible meal and all tables around us were suffering the same.
I should have read reviews here, it turns out this isn’t an isolated incident.
We left without ordering dessert and didn’t pay for such poor food.
We booked a table for 2pm well in advance but didn’t get a table till 2.30pm. Accepting it was busy on a Sunday lunch but I didn’t expect to be kept waiting for such a long period when there were reserved tables empty. The food a long time to arrive but in fairness it was a very good Sunday roast and food value.
Sadly the quality of the food was let down by the fact that we were seated in such a cold part of the pub.
Not entirely their fault (due to faulty gas vent on fire) but they could have closed off this section. Service was a little sluggish, they seemed to be short staffed.
Food was really great though.
Our food took an hour to come. We were given no warning of this ahead of time. One meal was forgotten and took an additional 10 minutes. Food (Sunday lunch) was over cooked and dry.
Table wasn’t booked upon arrival. Was informed that this happened the previous week so there must be an issue. A lovely member of staff managed to get us a table sorted which was good. We then ordered our food and were informed of 40 minute wait on it. In reality this was an about an hour! On a positive the food was worth the wait.
Didn’t have reservation listed from this app - suggest ringing to check even after email confirmation - managed to squeeze us in though.
Nice food was let down by poor service. Not enough staff working either behind the bar or on the floor. Spent too long waiting to order etc.
Beautiful pub serving great tasty food. Very attentive staff, friendly and excellent service. Bit cold when we arrive but they stoked up the open fires!
I used OpenTable to book but could not locate our booking upon arrival . The table given to us was almost in the hallway when there were lots of tables vacant ...
Good Service / efficient / welcoming / clean and pleasant atmosphere
Took my mother, sister and baby daughter out for Sunday lunch. Staff were fantastic: helpful, attentive and made no fuss about the mess my daughter made for them to clean up.
We had Sunday roasts, which on the whole were good, but the meat (lamb) was a little dry and overdone. The rest of the food was very good.
Took 45 mins to receive main meal
Menu choice poor as no specials Friday night
Veg and potatoes cold
Large crumble to share
Cold no fires lit
Made the booking online but they hadn't received my booking so had to sit on a cramped table with young children which wasn't easy. The staff suggested the booking system was unreliable, so why continue to use it? Disappointing.
The Fox at Roundhay was very good although weren't sure we were going to be able to eat there as they had no knowledge of our booking via Open Table and did say that this happens a lot with bookings done through this website
We had a booking for 8.15 on arrival it was very busy but we were taken to our table straight away. Another diner was leaving and as he passed the waitress he shouted appalling utterly appalling this should maybe have been a sign for us to leave. We decided against a starter as the pudding tasting platter appealed so ordered our main courses. two people ordered the steak and mushroom pie. After ten minuets the waitress appeared to say there was no pie left, they then ordered the chicken pie but again they had run out so tried to order the fish and chips again with no luck. The waitress explained it was always like this on a Saturday and even worse on a Sunday. Surly if this happens every week would it not be a good idea to order in extra food? We eventually settled on one ham hock two steaks and one pizza. this eventually arrived at 9pm. The ham hock and steaks were so overcooked they inedible the pizza was very nice. No one came to check if the food was okay or if we needed more drinks so ended up having to wait at the bar. No one cleared our plates till the waitress returned at 9.55 she then informed us that if we wanted desert we would have to hurry up as the kitchen was closing. Luckily we had decided what we wanted but were told on ordering the tasting platter that they had run out of some of the sweets and we would have to double up on some. We were looking forward to a nice meal and catching up with friends but this was ruined by bad service and to quote the diner before appalling food. We have eaten at Vintage Inns many times and have always enjoyed the food and had good service but will definitely not be returning to the Roundhay Fox
There had been a mix up with the booking, but the staff were friendly and helpful and found room for us anyway. The service was a little slow at times because it was busy, but our waitress was very nice and did apologise and we had lots to talk about so we were happy. The food was very good, but if I made one criticism it would be that the mains came too quickly after we had finished the starters. Each of the four of us like different types of food and the variety of the menu meant everyone was happy. Overall we were very happy and will definitely be back again!
