The Roebuck Inn
The Roebuck Inn is an historic coaching inn with rooms, in the heart of the Sussex countryside where the South Downs meet the woodlands of the Sussex Weald.
We have an extensive range of beers with an emphasis on Sussex Brewers, ably supported by the best small brewers from further afield, and a daily changing menu incorporating wonderful local ingredients, many supplied by our neighbours in the village.
Booked this place by chance but really glad we did. The beef roast was simply fantastic, probably one of the best I’ve had in a long while. The decor and garden were lovely and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I paid £33 for my roast and 3 alcoholic drinks which I thought was excellent value - would definitely return!!
Really good, creative menu, beautifully cooked. Friendly service, though quite a long wait for the food...first time eating out since lockdown so all in all a great experience!
Decent little plot in lovely setting, only gripe I had was it was bloody freezing as it was all outdoors in accordance with lockdown regulations. Could have done with a patio heaters.
Staff was good, food was good and the champers was delivered in ice, can’t go wrong
Friendly and efficient service. Lovely food.
Menu was great and food delicious however, the service was quite poor. We weren’t asked if our food was ok and my husband fancied a pudding but we never got asked so he never had one. We also had to shout over for a second drink. It was a Monday and we were only one of two tables eating so a bit of a worry about how service would be when it’s busy!
The vegan options needs some work! Thank you so much for having them, but they just need a bit of spice and a bit of love and they could be great! Salmon burger was apparently good.
Lovely vibe in the garden. Staff were lovely and friendly, drinks were great. Glad to have you back open again!
The Roebuck has just re-opened under completely new management the menu is much better & the garden a massive improvement over the previous rubbish tip! The service was slow & our order delivered incorrectly but all in a very pleasant manner. So why have I given it 5 stars? Because it has only been open for a couple of weeks & clearly everyone is finding their feet. We are going again tomorrow & I would expect to see an improvement.
My husband and I visited the Roebuck Inn for lunch on Saturday. The service was excellent and the food was delicious; however I felt that £7.50 for the Whipped Goat cheese appetizer with a mere 3 pieces of arugula and a tiny quenelle of goat cheese, was overpriced.
My beef shin ragu with pappardelle was very tasty, as was my husband’s venison burger.
It’s unfortunate that our enjoyment of our lunch was marred by screaming children who were running in between the tables but I realize that there is nothing Management can do except perhaps a polite sign asking for non-excessive noise? Just a thought...
was a little slow in serving but where very apologetic about it and then looked after us well
Lovely, spacious pub garden with tropical style bar in the garden. Food quickly produced, lovely meals. Pretty pleased all round.
The decor etc is amazing since the pub has been re-opened but the menu is not great (where’s the normal pub grub like shepherds pie, chilli con carne?) and both times I’ve eaten with friends we’ve rated the food very low. It’s such a fab pub, so come on guys improve the menu/food!
Our food was delicious and the service was great. Everyone was very friendly and the garden was lovely. Would highly recommend!
Well organised, very friendly staff and great food. So pleased to have the pub open with a strong team.
First time back since lockdown and it changed hands. We were a bit apprehensive as it had previously been so good but were pleasantly surprised. We arrived at midday and at that stage were the only ones there. We were warmly greeted. Menu was fine, my wife had the vegetarian burger which was different and very good. I had steak and ale pie, which I admit I had expected to be a "proper pie" enclosed in pastry. It came with puff pastry top and bottom but to be quite honest that didn't matter as the whole dish was very tasty. Will be back.
They need to improve on timing. We waited over an hour for our food and people who arrived after us got their food before us.
Order wrong. Waited 15 mins for someone to take our drinks order and a further 10 mins to get the drinks
Delicious food and lovely outdoor set up. Suitable for children.
Nice garden - work has happened to make it easy and fresh
Lovely fish and chips and well kept Harveys. First week of new leaseholder so a very promising start for a new team. Delighted to have a pub open againin the village in these difficult times. It was a bit chilly sitting in the marquee on a mid April evening but it was mid April.
Service and food absolutely delicious, the only little thing that could of made it better would be some patio heaters as it was freezing when we went .
Great kids playground and great food, lovely - would recommend
A great experience. It all looks lovely. Food and service really good.
Garden slightly uneven for my elderly guest and car park could be improved and tidied up. We will definitely return and recommend.
Met with friends for dinner outside. Came prepared with thermals and blankets but it was still really cold. Would have been nice to have a couple of outdoor heaters!
Otherwise the food was excellent and hot! Staff friendly and polite. We are quite local but have never been before. We will definitely return, can't wait to see inside! Recommend!
Poor service, cold food and they tried to charge us for drinks we hadn’t had. I’d give it a miss.
Food was overpriced for the quantity and quality, ham had a strange taste to it they coated it in some sauce which wasn’t described on the menu, carrots weren’t cooked on the double pork chop, burger was too undercooked for my liking, we all left hungry and spent near enough £100 for the 4 of us
So pleased to have The Roebuck open again. We had an early dinner with the kids on the first night and it was fab - pleased to see vegan and gluten-free options and the salmon burger was a big hit. Yes, there were a few teething problems with waiting times and service but it was the first day of opening and absolutely packed, so be expected - everyone was friendly and marquee had a great atmosphere. Children loved the play area.
It was a the first day of opening so wasn't expecting too high level of service but they certainly could do with a refresher in some if the basics
Cutlery and condiments coming with the meal or before hand bearing in mind eating outside are meal was cold by the time those turned up
Moving all the tables and drilling while we were still eating
