The Riverside at Aymestrey
Authentic and atmospheric, the 16th century black and white building is surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lugg valley. A small and lovely village with lovely people completes the setting.

Stunning setting. Very welcoming. Excellent service and delicious food and wine. A memorable evening
First time here, stunning venue great views and amazing food and service.
Will definitely be back!
It was my birthday lunch,so it was a special day.The service was perfect,a warm welcome.Great atmosphere in the lovely courtyard. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. They even presented me with a birthday dessert.
I can't wait to go back.
Lovely meal as ever and our first since lockdown easing. Despite being outside the weather was kind and the courtyard created enough atmosphere to make it a very enjoyable lunch.
The food was good but that was about all. We had our slot booked and it took 40mins for someone to take our food order and then it was another 50mins for our steak to arrive. Being outside seating only, 90mins was unacceptable. When we asked why the chap said because some other people had turned up earlier than they booked. So they should have been told to wait. They allow dogs and there was a little yappy thing barking the whole time we were there, not great when having an expensive meal in the country. No one said anything to the people with the dog. If local will be going to the Oak at Wigmore next time as that place is amazing for similar price.
Beautifully appointed traditional riverside pub, excellent staff, friendly, efficient and BEAUTIFUL food. Johnson and co of course cannot wait to put places like this out of business.
Excellent food, great staff, lovely property and a very good atmosphere considering the circumstances.
Having visited the Riverside many times before I was very disappointed. Not withstanding the Covid issues, we found the staff very disinterested is providing a decent service level. Food was just OK. We have no plans to return.
As usual very good food. Menu a bit limited but considering the difficulties of COVID restrictions The Riverside is doing a grand job.
Our last meal out before my partner commences Chemotherapy.
Just wanted somewhere local & atmospheric before his treatment begins.
We love our suppers out & now with the pandemic escalating we will dine at home from now on.
We are regulars at The Riverside & always have good food & wine.
Looking forward to returning in the spring all being well.
A delicious meal in a cosy pub. Brilliant covid measures put in place
The food and service was second to none as always. Thank you for a lovely meal x
Fresh tasting, well-cooked comfort food served in a relaxed atmosphere. Cheerful staff. Lovely surroundings.
Felt very safe in current. situation. Quiet so ambience inevitably missing but feeling safe compensated. Have visited several times with small and large parties and always been happy with interesting well cooked food and good service.
Had a great stay here in one of their garden rooms, beautifully appointed and then dinner in the restaurant which was absolutely gorgeous
Outstanding meal and service. Lovely quaint little pub
Superb meal and a restaurant that absolutely deserves its Slow Food in the UK Award for best restaurant in England!
Not sure how anything could be improved. Stunning location, warm and welcoming, great service and food to die for, perfect!
Glad to say service at The Riverside is back to its usual high standard. Everything to recommend here and nothing to fault. Hope to be back again before Christmas.
The food was delicious. My only minor moan is that the food could have been a bit hotter.
Small menu, which is a good sign of freshly cooked food, with a reasonable choice. Slow cooked beef & chocolate desert excellent
Lovely food as always. The braised beef is to die for. Never disappoints, when so many restaurants have cut back because of Covid.
Food is always really good whatever you order. Staff very polite and efficient. Always a nice atmosphere even visiting with Covid 19 restrictions, as a customer I felt very safe and staff were very professional.
We felt extremely safe and well cared for regarding covid hygiene /social distancing rules. The staff were lovely and very efficient. We adored the ambience and the food was beautiful. A lovely experience.
An excellent venue which we look forward to using again when the weather allows use of the riverside walk. Excellent proactive communication to deal with the difficulties of covid restrictions. A booking confirmation that confirmed that our wish to bring our dog, as requested with the online booking, was acceptable would have saved a 'phone call to check.
Thank you for a very pleasant lunch.
The welcome and subsequent service was very warm and friendly.
The menu choice in these COVID times was sufficient and well balanced and the well priced wine list offered more than an adequate choice.
The food was well presented and cooked. I thought the Barley Risotto starter, with local herbs, was outstanding. The pigs cheek was also good. The artichoke crisps with truffle mayo dip (called a snack) needed more mayo when used as a sharing pre-starter.
We had main courses of Hake and also Chicken, both of which were enjoyable.
We did not have desserts.
We would recommend the restaurant (indeed, have already done so) and would come again.
We had a lovely meal here- the pub has beautiful views & our family of five were very well looked after. The short menu was full of locally sourced seasonal food - which was delicious. We managed the pub walk afterwards which was beautiful.
Imaginative, original choices on the menu and a relaxing place to be for lunch, in present circumstances highly commendable.
Professional and courteous, Sunday lunch with panache .
The service and food was amazing. This was our diet time and it didn’t disappoint at all, we would highly recommend on all levels.
An excellent place for lunch: excellent food at very reasonable prices.
Sunday lunch was nice, the starters in particular were special as were the roast potatoes, the other vegetables were tasty, however the beef was not as good as I had expected it to be.
Excellent food. Variety of flavours and seasonal, local produce. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Will definitely book again.
Excellent tasty food, beer was kept just right. Overall an enjoyable experience.
Perfect meal. Friendly service, delicious food, great ambience. Highly recommend.
As always, a delight. The chef is always imaginative, the result impeccable. And a good wine list.
Always love the Riverside. Delicious food and great service. Cannot fault it.
Delightful lunch in the bar. Very friendly welcome and helpful service. Would definitely go back.
Our only criticism was that the staff didn’t know how to make up a whisky mac, it should not be made up with ice and lime! Otherwise we had a very enjoyable evening.
We had a lovely evening out, and the food was very good.
