The Riverhouse Nestucca
We have been many times, just the two of us or a group. It’s simply the best restaurant in town. I’ve had crab ravioli, fish and chips, chicken and dumplings and many other dishes and never been disappointed. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. We will probably be back next weekend!
Very good food! The salmon was perfect. Clam chowder is awesome.
Every single person at our table said it was ranked at one of our top five meals of all time. Simply outstanding!
Charming spot with views of the river. Locally sourced menu, pretty well done. Only downside was that the tap water that is generously poured and backed up with a quart more is heavily chlorinated and really just about ruined my dinner. I have managed and owned restaurants before and the quality of each part of the dining experience should be considered. A filter added to the tap would be a small investment or having Earth 2O deliver would be pennies per customer to ensure a fine dining experience. Oh, maybe there were two downsides... When I mentioned this to the hostess she was snarky about it and said "tastes fine to me!" I tend to hold food service grudges so I probably will not return. Even though the food was pretty tasty.
I don't write too many reviews but thought I'd add one here. Wasn't sure about this place but we're so glad we went. We were there on a very busy Saturday with our 2 kids. First of all, the service was fantastic -- they were really on it, super friendly and knowledgable even though it was so busy and a little frenetic. The food was also really great. Highly recommend the seafood lasagna and the cod dish -- both would make any Portland foodie very happy. Steamer clams were also wonderful. The restaurant is fairly small and decor and tables are a little haphazard which only adds to the charm of the place.
The clam chowder was amazing! Would definitely go back next time I'm in PC!
We had brunch with friends this past weekend at The Riverhouse Nestucca. An absolutely outstanding meal. The best Crab Eggs Benedict EVER!! Wonderful and attentive service along with a beautiful view of the river. Can't wait to go back!
Wow! Over a 10 day vacation traveling from San Jose to Portland, The Riverhouse was our very best meal! I enjoyed the crab stuffed ravioli - it was incredible. The combination of cherry tomatoes, corn, avocado with the crab and pasta goodness was out of this world. My husband had the pan seared salmon. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Honestly the best salmon we have ever had. We enjoy upscale dining in New Orleans regularly and another one of our favorite cities to eat is Charleston, SC. We are shocked a chef of this caliber is in such a small town. The service was excellent as well.
Always great food and service. We go often and have never been disappointed. The food is the best quality in the area. The owners and staff are super friendly.
Also, chicken and dumplings coming soon!! Can’t wait!
Love going there. The food is nicely prepared and the service is good.
Our food was excellent and the service was great! A good find in Pacific City
We found this restaurant doing a search of the area while vacationing at the Oregon coast. What a find!!! Don’t let the outside appearance fool you. The food was excellent, each entree was unique and delicious. A diamond in the rough....you will not be disappointed!!!
We ordered fried oysters and were shocked to see crispy deep fried oysters arrive at our table. They looked like deep fried gizzards sold at roadside convenience deli counters. The oysters were dry with little to no Oyster liquor.
Sharon Montoya Welsh writes in her book, OYSTER COOKERY, "Perfectly fried oysters are plump and juicy with a lovely coating....".
Montoya also writes, "... there are but four ways to eat oysters- fried, stewed, baked and raw on the half shell." The fried oysters served to us at The Riverhouse were DEEP fried, not gently and lovingly fried so that the oyster feels soft and juicy on the roof of the mouth before incising into a plump juicy explosion of oyster tastes.
Had an early dinner with my two brothers for a birthday celebration and at 5:15 we were lucky and got a table by the window overlooking the river. After driving by the building a couple of times and not being impressed with the outside appearance, I was happy to see how warm and inviting the upstairs dining experience was. Don't be fooled by the buildings appearance. We had wait-staff that was knowledgeable and fun, attentive and efficient. The fried oysters were some of the best I have had, and I loooove oysters! Thin crispy cornmeal on the outside, soft and tasty on the inside and perfectly fried. Chinook was excellently grilled leaving it moist rich, crab raviolis with quinoa salad were delicate and enhanced by sweet cherry tomatoes and corn. But the bread pudding!!! We split one and I savored every warm, sweet, brandy and caramel topped bite.
Beer and wine selections minimal, but some good options.
I will be returning to have the Paella (takes an extra 20 minutes).
Small restaurant overlooking the river. Wonderful meal...all of it! Bread, clam chowder, crab ravioli just awesome. A loud table of tipsy females ruined the ambiance — they belonged in a bar — but we loved it and strongly recommend it!
Very good clam chowder and salmon also. Lori really enjoyed the crab Mac and Cheese
Tried 4 chowders on the Coast and Riverhouse's won hands down!
Extremely nice people!
Go and try it out, it’s a must :-)!
Small but Mighty: Sensational food in cozy riverside setting. The salmon was cooked to perfection as was the steak. Do not miss the light bread pudding.
Everything we ordered was delicious. We will be back!
The clam chowder was amazing. Excellent service and delicious food. The crab ravioli was so yummy and fresh.
Food was excellent and the ambiance was phenomenal. The view of the river makes the experience that much more pleasurable.
Best restaurant in town. Great seafood. The chef is simply top notch.
Wonderful food, atmosphere and service! Will definitely be back!
This was very good. It got a little loud due to small space. Be sure to make reservations and I would recommend going early for first sitting, they were standing in line waiting when we left.
The restaurant is unique for the mid Oregon coast, primarily because of the high quality of the food at a reasonable price.
Great food. The paella was unique and delicious and enough for 2 meals. The seafood dishes were clean, not over-creamed, served with very fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables.
We shared a desert of chocolate truffles rolled in crushed hazelnuts with cherries and vanilla ice cream-incredible.
The restaurant was full and bustling on a beautiful Thusday evening. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive. We were not rushed.
We left very surprised and happy!
Had a reservation for 4 people. We were put in a booth that normal sized people like us could not fit into right by the restrooms. The normal sized table for 5 people they were holding onto in case a bigger party than ours, 4 people keep in mind, came. We got up and walked out.
A large group of family members descended on the Riverhouse for brunch. The food was great, cocktails great, and prices on par with what we’d expect to pay. The waitress was wonderful, the food came out pretty darn fast given a large group and others in the restaurant. We used to go here decades ago for years and then it closed for many years. We’re glad to see it back and with still wonderful food. All it’s missing from the “old days” is the hippie chicks who used to be the waitresses.
Excellent except the loud noise which is a problem that detracts from the otherwise very nice meal and excellent service
Diamond in the rough. Great food in a place resurrected from years ago. New ownership doing great job. Limited seating so recommend calling ahead. Then show up early for cocktail in lobby!!
My wife and another couple enjoyed a nice dinner at Riverhouse Nestucca. They are all about customer service and we were very well taken care of during our first experience there, which ensures we will return. The waitstaff was young and fairly inexperienced with an awesome attitude about learning how to serve customers with excellence. What she didn't know, she promptly found out and returned to us with satisfactory answers. We arrived early and were allowed to be seated at once since they had tables and service available. We got the impression that those at Riverhouse will go up and beyond to keep their customers returning and having a good time with a very good meal. I can highly recommend Riverhouse Nestucca.
The seafood Macaroni and cheese was amazing. It got a little loud as everyone was talking and enjoying themselves, through out this small 12 table restaurant. I can’t wait to go back.
On a holiday at the beach, took friends to the river house because I know we always have an excellent meal there. Their bread putting is the best I’ve ever tasted.
Absolutely delicious meal. It's a small dining room that's comfortable and simply decorated. A real find that's worth the drive if you're not in the immediate area.
Altho we did have a reservation we had to wait a bit but the staff was amazing, food was lovely and the best surprise was getting the bill!
The meal and ambiance were lovely. Staff was attentive. Best clam chowder I’ve had in years, silky and chunky, good ratio of potatoes and clams. I ordered seafood paella which had a hearty taste to it and my date ordered the crab ravioli, presentation and taste was excellent.
Everything was extraordinary. We had the calamari appetizer and the calamari was tender not overdone. The cream of mushroom soup with truffle sour cream was out of this world. Best seafood paella had just the right flavors I felt like I was back in Spain it was so authentic.
I couldn’t resist ordering the paella. Unfortunately it was very dry. My dining partners ordered the crab mac-n-cheese, which was divine and had a huge amount of crab and 3 big prawns.
The noise level was high, thanks to a rowdy family with 3-4 small children. It is a small space, but charming.
I wish they would update their menus online, all 4 menus list fish & chips as a selection. We were bummed that the fish and chips were not on the menu.
Nonetheless, I recommend this restaurant for their food and great service.
Went with a friend and had the crab mac n cheese. Too die for! Went back for that. Same quality second time. Though it was very busy and noisy and could not talk the second time we went. But quality of food and service and setting on the river are fantastic.
This is our favorite restaurant in Pacific City, where we can get REAL food that's healthy and fresh. Pub food is what's mostly available in this town and the Riverhouse is a farm-to-table type restaurant when you want to dine a little nicer. It's small and quaint with a good menu and we've had 3 great meals here. We'll be back on our next visit.
