Fabulous food and location Will and Faye are doing a fantastic job
Such a lovely place, brilliant outlook over Mill Pool and the estuary, delicious food, smiling service, altogether a wonderful experience.
Whenever we are in the area, we always make a point of booking into the Rivershack. The food is ALWAYS amazing, fresh and tasty. Service is happy and bright and nothing too much trouble. Just one disappointment, the full english breakfast has gone (hopefully just for the time being) and I was told its to help the kitchen in these difficult time. Please. please bring it back as soon as you can. Thank you again for a wonderful dinner and breakfast on this visit. Look forward to next moths visit already.
A beautiful setting to enjoy some food and drink. The outdoor space overlooks the Mill Pond and is tranquil. It’s worth a walk around the pond to visit the church.
The food was tasty and the waiting staff all very friendly. We had Brixham Mackerel on sourdough and Crab with toast, both very nice. We then shared a cream tea. The scones were still warm and again tasted good. The clotted cream was not too generous and a little more would have made it a perfect cream tea in a perfect setting.
We enquired about the cream teas on the menu and were told that they like people to order from the lunch menu at that time of day, 3pm. We had anticipated having a late lunch and saw the cream tea as a bonus but the comment seemed odd and a little off putting. Hence the 4 stars. In the event we enjoyed both and this wouldn’t put us off returning in the future. Definitely worth a visit if you are near Stoke Gabriel.
Really good staff serving really good food in a really good riverside location. Highly recommended. Will definitely go again.
If you are anywhere near Stoke Gabriel the River Shack serves good food in terrific surroundings. Don’t miss it!
Delicious coffee & pancakes to die for.
Efficient & very friendly service in a charming location.
Perfect location. Glad we booked.
The women serving here are friendly and helpful despite being rushed off their feet.
What a stunning location. No wonder everyone wants a table.
An unusual main dish of cuttlefish, which all three of us chose. Servings were plentiful and it was very tasty. A very pleasant atmosphere & situation. Very good service.
Lovely food, service and weather! Definitely recommend
Possibly the best burger I've ever eaten...beautiful backdrop, good selection of local ales and friendly helpful staff, not many places like this.
Top notch very friendly staff lovely food
Excellent food and service at a great location, good weather helps too.
Was a perfect evening, excellent food and wine. Defiantly be coming back.
We had a wonderful anniversary meal with some friends and their dog. The whole experience was just what we had hoped, great food in a wonderful setting. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to our requests.
Will definitely revisit when back in Sunny Devon
When you have a place this good on your doorstep, with such amazing views it’s hard not to keep coming back. The food is absolutely delicious, with a variety of daily local fish dishes and freshly cooked pizzas along with scrummy cakes if you’re just stopping for a quick cuppa. The staff are all incredibly friendly and are happy to recommend their favourites to you. Definitely a good idea to book, as not surprisingly it’s usually busy. Fab place, thank you for making us feel so welcome - each and every time.
Fabulous location, friendly and attentive young staff, and good food. Menu is small (a good thing) and seasonal, with fresh fish high on the list. Delicious desserts and good selection of gins in particular.
Very friendly and efficient service, well-cooked food and beautiful views. Couldn't be bettered.
Great location, good feeling but more choice needed
The food was superb and enough if a helping to satisfy. The staff were attentive and apologetic that they only had one pizza oven, so different dishes were delivered at different times if pizza was involved. However we were warned of this in advance, so not a big issue.
Perfect meal - went right back and had Breakfast the next day!
Really enjoyed our breakfast. Staff really friendly and nothing was too much trouble
A beautiful location and fantastic service! We came for breakfast, husband loved his choice. I had the pancakes which were really nice but I was surprised they didn’t come with actual fruit, same with my daughter’s pancakes. Only a minor negative otherwise loved it and we will be back again soon for lunch probably!
Lovely setting for a peaceful lunch, right on the millpond at Stoke Gabriel. It was very busy but the setting is such that it didn’t feel like it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hake tacos were delicious and the fish of the day on toast very tasty. Good portions too. I would highly recommend the shack, so get your booking in!
We were lucky enough to book a table for a family lunch, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it
Ophelia ( Elsa from Frozen) looked after us beautifully !!!
Great location, food and great value
Will book again
Thank you very much
Delicious vegetarian option with great care and attention to flavour and texture.
Quick, friendly service. Great food.
Great food in a picturesque setting. Very varied menu
Amazing restaurant, tasty food and location stunning.
Arrived at the river shack 10 mins late due to sat nav giving us wrong directions i phoned and left message to say running late! when we got there all tables full and were told there would be one coming up soon outside, we had booked a table inside and had not come dressed for eating out. We were told by staff that they would move us inside first chance they had so was disappointing, otherwise food was good although menu limited, crab starter was beautiful, staff helpful and friendly just a shame about the table mix up
Amazing place, friendly and efficient staff. Been twice and the standard across the board is maintained.
The staff were very friendly , however they need training. Literally incompetent. Didn’t bring cutlery or napkins on more than one occasion after bringing the food out. One of the waitresses knocked drink over when placing meal down on the table and didn’t even offer to replace the drink and we didn’t even bother asking her to. She apologised but appeared clueless. When they cleared our table, they only cleared half of it and then asked if we wanted the bill........ we didn’t as we wanted cream teas. When the scones arrived they had forgotten about the tea, again no napkins..... we had to ask. Then we wanted another cup and saucer as the pot of tea was quite big. We asked for another cup and that’s what we got..... minus the saucer. Not sure what they are used to themselves, however surely it’s not much to ask for cutlery and napkins. As I say, they were really nice people but need a lot of training. I think it was also over priced. £12:95 for burger and chips. Selection on menu is extremely limited as well. Could be so much better as it’s in a great spot with great outdoor seating. All in all, menu rubbish and staff require training.
Idylic setting, matched by the food & service. Highly recommend & can’t wait to return.
Beautiful relaxed meal in stunning location. Well organised and a short but good menu.
Delicious breakfast al fresco on a lovely sunny morning
Beautiful location and a justifiably busy and bustling venue. The food, drinks and service were all excellent and we liked it enough for it to be our second visit. A lovely relaxed lunch
Excellent breakfast, try the smoked butter beans with a poached egg! Lovely peaceful location even on a busy day. Helpful and charming service. Be back again soon.
Really lovely being able to sit by the mill pool. Lovely atmosphere and great food and coffee.
Excellent lunch, service fast and charming even though it was busy. Will, as ever, a great host. Baked eggs with smoked salmon and asparagus were particularly tasty with delicious Sharpham white wine.
Excellent service the girl that served us was very enthusiastic and helpful the food was amazing the view was amazing and the kids loved ‘crabbing’
Thank you River Shack, we shall certainly be back !!
