Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

It just happened to be steak night which we both ordered. Knowledgeable , polite and well humoured waitress complimented two great steaks with plentiful sides. The suggested wine was a perfect accompaniment. The dessert was tasty too. A nice ambiance in the pub with a great mixture of foodies and drinkers. I would thoroughly recommend. A pricier than your average pub but well worth it.

Was recommended to me by a local. Lovely inside,if pricy pub. Good menu but not great menu for pescatarian dinners. Service was excellent and front of house staff very professional and smiley. Wine menu extremely pricy and on the night hand pumped Ale choices very limited. Vegetables were served very hard and were blanched rather than cooked. Underdone beyond trendy. My food was served hot. But my partners was served on a cold plate and the veg was cold and underdone. Waitress offered to get a fresh batch of veg. This was done very quickly, so quickly the veg although warmer was still solid. Although the pub was very empty, we were sat in a side area with a couple of tables. Staff decided to seat two extremely overbearing and loud customers next to us. In an empty restaurant. We had to move, just to be able to have a conversation. Honestly I would not go again.

Best Sunday Roast we have had anywhere. Great choice of meats and came with a wide selection of vegetables, all well cooked. Dealt with one food allergy very well. Will definitely return when in the area again.

This was our first visit to The Rising Sun and it exceeded expectations. Delicious food, beautifully served and with some interesting twists.

Very good meal, the service could have been a bit more attentive and the prices are high, especially with the service charge added to the bill.

Our first time at the Rising Sun. Took my Mum & Dad for Sunday lunch. The food and service were excellent. My Dad said best meal he’s had in a long time! Will definitely be coming back
