Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

Really enjoyed our night out at the Rising sun. Service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. Even although the restaurant was busy with diners you could talk to each other across the table. Whole place has a lovely atmosphere.

We have dined here a few times and it is the outstanding venue in Truro. I cannot fault it.

We enjoyed our meal here this evening. Nice atmosphere, tasty food, well presented and reasonably priced for a more upmarket gastropub. The locally sourced ingredients added to the experience of coming here, and the adaptability of the kitchen was also well appreciated.

We had heard good things about the Sunday roast and were not disappointed. Everything was superb and this was a consensus with our guests who are also restaurant owners in Cornwall. The only thing we felt was a little under par was the over cooked roasted veg… slightly over done and crispy made so by being kept warm for afternoon service we suspected. The roasts were priced higher than average but the food was very good so we felt it was worth it. The 20% service charge is also much higher than even restaurants in Cornwall so we would have liked this to be lower if not optional.

Staff welcoming and friendly Breads and dips very tastey start to meal Unfortunately we were disappointed with main courses, Steak Bavette was tasteless and dry, macaroni cheese very bland. Chicken was fine, but croquette which should have been with Chicken/Leek was dry, no sign of leek and tasteless. Cheese board was good, cheesecake was lovely. Felt food was overpriced, and not up to our expectation of the reputation of the Rising Sun. would be reluctant to return ot recommend
