Message from John & Thu Ha:

"The Richmond" is a small family owned restaurant.

We offer two tasting menus: a 3-course menu for $50.00 and a 5-course menu for $79.00. Both menus come with optional wine pairings.

At "The Richmond" our goal is to put a premium on individual diners rather than volume. Each night we take a limited number of reservations. Our mission is to provide personalized food and service.

Please come and be part of our restaurant family.

The host with the most sounds cliche but when a owner is the host it almost always makes for a special evening.

Conclusions from our first visit: Outstanding food from an outstanding chef. We'll give it another try as soon as we can and keep trying the menu!

What a wonderful local spot! The own came out and poured extra glasses of wine, the waiter advised us to take our time and enjoy, the price was incredibly fair but the food was the best part. We had the rib/scallop first course, I had salmon and my husband had the duck pasta for our main, then we finished with the warm peanut butter chocolate lava cake and semifredo! Every bit was greasy and delicious. Tables are semi private and it so easy to talk and hear others at your table because of the curtains. Can’t wait to go back. Surprised this place is not Michelin rated.

Wonderful meal to celebrate a friend’s big birthday. We were well taken care of before we even stepped through the door, helping me to arrange for a very nice Sparking wine to be chilled and ready to pour. The meal was excellent, as always. John, Chef/Owner, makes an excellent and to-be-remembered three course meal at half what you would pay downtown (or anywhere else for that matter). The one server is attentive and helpful, while still being cognizant of the flow of conversation and food/wine. It is all well thought out and “choreographed” between the two of them. The braised short ribs over polenta and topped with a perfectly seared diver scallop tells right away that you are in for a worthy treat. Two of our party had the perfectly cooked NY steak, one had salmon and exclaimed “perfect!”, and our fourth guest had the fettuccine with duck in a port wine reduction sauce and was also wowed by the fresh ingredients and a master’s cooking style. Deserts included homemade individual apple pies, a dense and sinful baked chocolate and peanut lava cake and a rich coconut custard flan. The Richmond is an extremely fine chef’s vision of the restaurant he wants to own and cook at, as well as the realization of that creative but grounded execution. Go to enjoy the food and wine, and to be impressed that restaurants like this still exist if you look to find them. It isn’t world-changing, nor does it want to be, just wonderful creatively-inspired food cooked and served simply and elegantly.

5 star experience every time. You get the table to yourself the whole evening— no rush from the wait staff or the chef who both come around frequently to check in. High quality food at a reasonable price for SF. One of our favorites!

The wall ART and intimacy of this "neighborhood" eatery seems only to augment the SURPRISE of such an elevated, personal and professional restaurant mark. We have been irregular guests, yet always fans, of The Richmond since it first opened ... it has evolved with the times yet has maintained the core of its promise: intimate and unassuming hi-brow, 3-4 course dining experience w/well incubated bottle wine selections; 4-5 star, incredibly reasonably priced prix fixe menus.

A rare gem. Restaurant only turns about 8 tables per night. Reserve three weeks ahead or use opentable for same-day reservations. Very personal service from the chef (John) his team. Wine selection eclectic (ask for what is not on the list). Menu limited but crafted deliciously with love. Do not go if you want to eat and leave in 60 minutes. Go if you want to savor the evening in the seclusion of your own island of culinary and languorous comfort.

This place is great for noise and space. Each table has a curtain, so you have a private table. The chef comes out to talk to you about your food. Our meal was very good. I would go again.

This is an amazing little gem in the Richmond. The food is amazing and the personalized attention from John is really special. It's a tiny restaurant, just 7 people and they go out of their to give each table privacy (we overlapped with the table next to us for just 10 minutes, the rest of the time we had our walled off section to ourselves). We tried the fried oysters which were on their first night on the menu, can't recommend highly enough.
