Cavernous but never feels overwhelming - tables are set far enough apart to allow comfortable conversations without screaming. Wait staff was great - solicitous but not pushy - prices are on the high side - apps seemed particularly expensive and not that big. But the food quality was good
Always a pleasure dining there.
Food quality was excellent. Service was good, but the kitchen clearly had some problems that night. Saw 3 tables get their meals before their appetizers.
Prices are high. Menus had stains on them, which I wouldn't expect from someone where $40+ main dishes.
Daughter and I enjoyed a brisk walk to Ribbon Uptown West Side after seeing Wicked for the first time. Dinner was the capstone to one of her favorite days. She loved everything, but especially trying Prime Rib for the first time ever. She said it may be the best meal she's ever had in her 15 years. Big thanks and kudos to Ribbon for helping make a wonderful memory!
Went for brunch as well as dinner last week. The food, surprisingly, wasn't that great... Nothing exceptional. Got the braised short ribs for dinner and was rather disappointed with the quality/texture of the meat. The meat did not fall off with a fork, as you'd expect, and wasn't nearly as flavorful as it could be. Brunch was not impressive. Nothing unique or particularly flavorful. Had much higher expectations given this is in the 'Blue Ribbon' family. Only positive thing was the atmosphere/decor. Won't be going back.
Mediocre food and bad service
All of the food was incredible. My steak was one of the best steaks I've ever had.
The staff was very accommodating when a crying child disrupted our dinner. We were moved to another table with no problem.
Overall, the restaurant was fantastic! We will definitely be back!
Our waiter, Dylan, was absolutely terrific. He made for a very good dining experience.
Great dinner, a bit noisy
The place is nice, has a good potential and the food quite satisfying, however, our server could not care less about us which made our experience less fun than expected.
The bar area is a lot louder than the back dinning area that I prefer. The food and staff are always fabulous!
Delicious food, and cool atmosphere. A bit pricey, but overall wonderful experience.
No bartender and waiter forced to do both...went there for a fancy cocktail for my birthday and they couldn’t make any of the ones on the menu. Serious disappointment!
I always love The Ribbon, but one of our orders came out wrong and the waiter never apologized for the mixup. It was surprising because the service if usually very good.
Really great tasty food from starters to deserts. Everything was excellent and the service as well. Better to be seated near the kitchen, you can see the chef preparing your dish, and it is also quieter for conversation. The first part of the restaurant is very noisy and with tv on, which we don’t like. A very good place, to recommend highly, although a bit expensive!
Food was delicious. I had the branzino and my husband the salmon. The apple cobbler equally tasty. A bit noisy, but not as loud as some other restaurants. Only negative comment — lit candle on our table smelled like lighter fluid. (Which we blew out). We would definitely go back.
Really enjoyed our meal at The Ribbon. The service was slow because they were so busy but I can't fault our waiter. He made us laugh during his updates on our food and was very sincere in his apology at how long we had to wait. A great atmosphere and good food. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city.
Always a solid choice for great american comfort food.
I have rarely written a negative review but this was a bad experience. I hadn't liked it 18 months ago but gave a new chance tonight. Never again. From the perpetually sneering host who never said hello and, even though I was six minutes early for my reservation but my guest hadn't yet arrived, banished me to a communal area because he wouldn't seat me until my "entire party arrives (this is a stupid policy)" and my guest arrived one minute early, to the fact that there doesn't seem to be enough servers, we were disappointed. Chicken was fine, but could it have been served with a sprig of parsley? Or could the hurried waiter have asked if I wanted a side? Nothing more than an order taker who seemed overworked. Two drinks; chicken and a mushroom burger and $90 later, we felt ripped off. Then there is the clientele. To the left was a table of very loud people and to the right a couple who were on their cell phone videoing with their grandchildren. So the worst of the upper west side (where we live) and we won't be back. Then there is the thump, thump, thump of the music and the bus staff that pushed someone out of the way behind me. One good thing: once we established that we wanted New York's finest tap water, the young man who filled water glasses was very generous and ever-present. They seem to be doing good business but I don't know why.
It was a birthday dinner.
The black bean burger was good and the fries were hot and crispy.
Incredible Service! Staff is well trained and attentive.
Consistently great quality food especially for those on keto and paleo diets, interesting menu and experiences and the best buffalo cauliflower in the universe
Waiter was fantastic
Food is consistently great but, the due to the high volume it is not a space to expect to have a meaningful conversation.
Food was good. One waiter was a bit rude. He wasn’t even our server. Just made snide comments.
The Ribbon did not disappoint. It had a lively atmosphere, welcoming reception and excellent food. The front room (with the bar) was packed but had ample room to eat and drink - great for a meeting place, though that room was loud. I asked if we could be seated in the back room which was a bit quieter. The host/hostess were very accommodating with a smile. We ordered the cauliflower and flatbread appetizer which were delicious. I had the tuna special which was great and one of my party had steak which was equally as good. I would say that although the service was good, the food came out on time, the waiter did not seem very friendly. Not a big deal as everything was excellent... it just makes the experience better. I will recommend and go back.
very good. not too crowded, not too loud. a bit pricey.
It was a friend's birthday and The Ribbon made it really special - that was appreciated!!!
We loved this place- the happy hour was great- excellent cocktails and Dollar Oysters nailed it- Fried chicken- Best ever! Burger was really good too.
Consistent and homey
Outstanding brunch spot.
Branzino is consistently good here as is the Amish chicken. One of our go to’s in the neighborhood. Excellent wide selection on the food menu. Wine list ok.
Our reservation was honored the minute we arrived we had the greatest waiter he was hilarious he made everybody smile/laugh
I’m actually still talking about something he said still making me laugh
his name was Chris
the food was delicious and the service was impeccable the bus boys were attentive as well
Food...OK...noise level...too high..
We won’t be be going back..
Place was pretty empty and still everything took soooo long. Not unpleasant service....just took for ever.
A spur of the moment, change of plans as we were suppose to go to the meatpacking district. Happy we stayed on the UWS. Exceptional cuisine and great service. My girlfriend indulged in a Moscow mule and I wanted something different. I asked the bartender what was his specialty and he shared that he had created a new concoction.
An Irish limeade is the taste but not the name.
I had the branzino; always appreciate a good fish. Dessert was the chocolate bruno.
Delighted over what the weather made me do.
We turned up late evening for dinner. The food was fine, nice salad, oysters ok, and fried chicken sandwich with fries all good. Two things seriously detracted however. First, very indifferent service where everything we ordered was not delivered as requested. Worse than that, there was a determined effort to clear our plates before we finished. I guess they wanted to go home; I would like to have finished my meal though but my plate was snatched away with a healthy portion remaining. When I said something along the lines that “we were not done” all I got was a lame grin. This was a first for me.
The second issue is that the drink mixers are of poor quality. I noticed this on previous occasions here too. But mixers from a gun may be convenient but really can detract from a drink if flat or
flavorless. And they foreclose, at least for me, any thought of a second or third.
Had a delightful late lunch. Perfect !!
Two flustered, unsmiling young women at the front desk didn't know the first thing about efficiency or graciousness. My 95 year-old mother waited. Neither asked whether we'd like to check coats so I made the request. A coat was dropped. Later, we were not helped on with them.
GO EARLY. Food is excellent, but service disappears when the place is crowded. Everyone looks for the waiter (ours could rarely be found) instead of answering needs himself. (There was a single exception.) Arrived at 6:30. A waiter finally appeared at 7:00. Main dishes took a ridiculously long time to arrive after appetizers and wine were long finished. It was difficult to secure salt and pepper, additional napkins (theirs are ridiculously small and thin), or coffee top up. While bread is warm, butter is inexcusably frozen. Coffee is not very good. Attention should be paid here.
