A spur of the moment, change of plans as we were suppose to go to the meatpacking district. Happy we stayed on the UWS. Exceptional cuisine and great service. My girlfriend indulged in a Moscow mule and I wanted something different. I asked the bartender what was his specialty and he shared that he had created a new concoction.
An Irish limeade is the taste but not the name.
I had the branzino; always appreciate a good fish. Dessert was the chocolate bruno.
Delighted over what the weather made me do.
We turned up late evening for dinner. The food was fine, nice salad, oysters ok, and fried chicken sandwich with fries all good. Two things seriously detracted however. First, very indifferent service where everything we ordered was not delivered as requested. Worse than that, there was a determined effort to clear our plates before we finished. I guess they wanted to go home; I would like to have finished my meal though but my plate was snatched away with a healthy portion remaining. When I said something along the lines that “we were not done” all I got was a lame grin. This was a first for me.
The second issue is that the drink mixers are of poor quality. I noticed this on previous occasions here too. But mixers from a gun may be convenient but really can detract from a drink if flat or
flavorless. And they foreclose, at least for me, any thought of a second or third.
Two flustered, unsmiling young women at the front desk didn't know the first thing about efficiency or graciousness. My 95 year-old mother waited. Neither asked whether we'd like to check coats so I made the request. A coat was dropped. Later, we were not helped on with them.
GO EARLY. Food is excellent, but service disappears when the place is crowded. Everyone looks for the waiter (ours could rarely be found) instead of answering needs himself. (There was a single exception.) Arrived at 6:30. A waiter finally appeared at 7:00. Main dishes took a ridiculously long time to arrive after appetizers and wine were long finished. It was difficult to secure salt and pepper, additional napkins (theirs are ridiculously small and thin), or coffee top up. While bread is warm, butter is inexcusably frozen. Coffee is not very good. Attention should be paid here.
The food was amazing, but service was basically non-existent. Had to flag down someone to order first drink (which still took long to arrived) and then again to order a second. Appetizer plates were not cleared and when entree showed up, we had to clear them ourselves so the food runner could put the food down. It also seems that the workspace sharing is forcing tables to sit on top of each other and it’s not very comfortable.
Great food, family atmosphere. Service was good, I would come back. I liked the Sunday happy hour.
Service was great. Chicken sandwich had no flavor.
The food is delicious but overpriced. A glass of draft wine is $15.
Went here for dinner before the ballet and ended up getting seats at the bar. Super cute decor, nice ambience, the food was great, and they also had a nice happy hour which included raw bar. Will definitely be back!
A good place to dine. Food is great, good customer service.
We had a great time here. Great food, great drinks. Had Valentine’s Day with my bestie and it was the perfect spot. We can’t wait to come back!
The food was just awful. Almost inedible. The $20 plus Black Bean Burger wasn't nearly as good as the $8 one my daughter usually gets in Brooklyn. My "Prime Rib" dip was all gristle. The waiter was nice, though!
All really good. Their fried chicken cannot be beat. Carrots excellent. Good fries. Great service.
Always a great experience.
Excellent as always. One of the best places for lunch, brunch dinner on the UWS.
Loved the vibe of the place. All the servers and bartenders were really nice. I will be back. Great location, close to the park. Loved the look of the bar.
Food was delicious, atmosphere amazing, wonderful service! A little expensive for what you get, I think, but not outrageously so. My only real qualm was that, when we arrived for our reservation (ten minutes early, to be fair), we were asked to wait... but there didn't seem to be an acceptable place to do so. There was a large vestibule that would have felt like us going back outside, and then long standing tables that felt like we were intruding on the bar. So we just ended up standing in the way for a few minutes (FULLY in the way. I felt really bad, but no one was telling us where we should be). And then when we were brought to our table, it was to a half-empty dining room, so it was curious as to why we waited. But ultimately, a great brunch!
A gem!! our food was delicious - my son and husband had the lobster/shrimp bowl ...it was incredibly delicious the long grain rice was perfect.
Buffalo Cauliflower and Caesar salad apps were prepared just right!
I kept it simple with a shrimp cocktail- and the shrimp were large and delicious.
We will be back!
A little expensive for the neighborhood, ambiance and selection.
I like The Ribbon a lot, and go there every so often. The food is very good, if a little overpriced, and the atmosphere is great. However, the service we had the night we went was not very good, but that was very clearly a result of our waiter, not the rest of the staff. He just wasn't very good and didn't have a clear sense of what good service is. First, we ordered a bottle of red wine which, when we tasted it, had very clearly turned so we had to send it back, which we rarely do. There was clearly an issue with storage, because the bottle was warm. When he came back, he had a different bottle of wine because the bottle we sent back was the last one they had. The bottle he substituted was more expensive - and they charged us for the more expensive bottle. That's just bad customer service. Second, the club soda for our cocktails was absolutely flat, no carbonation, which was obviously a problem with the gas in the gun. When I pointed this out to him, he brought it back to the bar, then came back with it and said it was the only club soda they had - and he offered to blow bubbles into it. I know he was only joking, but it's a bad joke, given the circumstances. I kept the drink, with the flat club soda, but was surprised that they didn't remove it from the bill. He left dirty plates on our table, rarely came back to check in on us, and just seemed very cavalier. The rest of the staff were fine that night, but our waiter clearly needs some training in customer service, especially how to handle situations when things are not going very well.
This is a restaurant that needs a chef. I started with the marrow bone appetizer. The bone was cut wrong but the real horror, 3 minutes after ordering it was brought to me & quite obviously microwaved!
We both order the prime rib that was over salted not just while it was roasted. The meat was cut poorly & mostly fat. I ordered asparagus that were soggy with grill marks, do ask & nasty mystery tasting French fries. My cousin had mashed potatoes that were cold & again had a funny taste & creamed spinach. I ordered 2 glasses of Sancerre at $20 a glass & was not the best.
I ordered the flourless chocolate cake with a white cookie thing. THIS was chocolate mousse & the cookie thing was hard as a rock. I mean a sharp knife could not even cut it.
I told them ahead of time it was my cousin's birthday AND again when I got there. Again NOTHING.
The total for this disaster of a meal was just over $300 with tip.
I feel I should have a reason or a restaurant do over.
The Ribbon is a real comfort food restaurant, but my last meal there was not so comfortable for all of the dinners. The Butcher's Salad was a mess. The meats were hardly discernible and everything was cut so small after a few bites of the protein it all looked alike and almost tasted alike. The small prime rib was so rare it had to be sent back. It was nobody looked at the rib before they sent it to the sable. On the other hand, the salmon was overdone. A perfect trifecta of missed opportunity. Staff and ambiance were ok. I am willing to try again to order off large varied menu and signature fried chicken.
A fun, noisy, huge place--and the food is really good.
Waited one hour for our table (not counting arriving 15 minutes early.) Fortunately two gentleman gave up their seats at the bar, then a third finished and did the same. That’s when we began to enjoy the neighborhood vibe. Happy hour drinks and appetizers helped the hour pass quickly. Next time I would skip the restaurant where service was rushed and just enjoy the crowded, but very friendly, bar.
Staff should not be using the only handicap restroom on the main floor.
All the staff--hostesses, wait and bus staff-- are fine. But eating here is like being in the middle of Times Square: A constant stream of staff almost brushing against our table during our entire meal. The menu is extensive, but surprisingly, nothing appealed to us. What we ordered was only fair. We won't return, but it won't matter. The restaurant is a gold mine for the owners.
The food was not on par with what you would expect from an NYC restaurant, more like not so good diner food. Huge portions that lack taste and flavour. Good with kids tho, pancakes were not so bad. I couldn’t eat my own plate.
I love The Ribbon. Usually it's quite crowded but we were able to get a reservation. We ended up eating at the bar. At first, the bartender wasn't the friendliest but he warmed up by the end of the night. I wouldn't let this impact my experience because he definitely perked up by mid-evening. Our food was delicious!! One thing I love about the menu are the options. And, the decor & music are on point. I had my birthday dinner with a group of 10+ about 2-3 years ago and I'll come on coming back.
Food not good, spit roasted chicken so over cooked. Similarly the side of carrots and we were eating on the early side.
Tasty food well prepared...outstanding service!
Charming cozy environment
Gorgeous setting, outrageous mushroom burger. I am definitely going back.
Our waitress, Shakira (sp?) was excellent! Extremely attentive and accommodating.
Spectacular as usual
Great neighborhood spot - perfect for lunch, drinks or dinner with friends.
Have returned here many ties and never have been disappointed. The food and service are dependable. This time we were seated next to a loud noisy table that included at least 8 or maybe 10. That was not so pleasant, but we were about done anyway and so we just listened. But the table of 2 next to us and closer to the group actually insisted upon being moved. But none of this changes the fact that they know how to cook here. Their house-made appetizer potato chips are very good. Lamb chops were very good. Sides of asparagus and mushrooms well-prepared. And the arugula salad was fine. We look forward to returning.
This is a great spot on the UWS. Great chicken! Unfortunately the service on this night was spotty at best, but our waiter realized this and took about $50 off our bill to compensate. That is great situational awareness and was appreciated so we’ll go back for sure.
Overall very good and very dependable
I’ve come here numerous times and I’ve never had a bad drink or a bad dinner. They have the best cheese and charcuterie platter. It’s not cheap but the quality of the food is really good and they don’t use cheap fillers like a lot of other places do. I’ll keep coming back
Some of the best comfort food on the West Side. Always reliable. The white bean soup is so good it’s almost a meal in itself.
One of the neighborhood's best burgers, and a vibrant ambiance. Always enjoyable!
