The Restaurant at Russian River Vineyards Ratings and Reviews
The Restaurant has changed their dining options. Dinner is served only on Friday or Saturday nights. Although we weren’t there on those nights, the menu looked great - local products and seasonally changing menu. Check the website to see what is available. From noon to close, there is an appetizer/tapas type menu designed to pair with your Russian River Wine tasting. We ate outside, accompanied by our people/dog friendly dog who got to meet with the winery dog, Molly. We started with the duck confit which came wrapped in a crispy wonton wrapper, like an egg roll. The duck was very tasty and we liked the crunch of the wrapper. We also had the duck liver torchon which came with house made crackers. Very rich and creamy goodness. Our third appetizer was disappointing. The shrimp were tiny like bay shrimp and deep fried with a cornmeal crust/batter. We didn’t realize that Oregon pink shrimp were so tiny. The shrimp flavor was overwhelmed by the deep frying and cornmeal crust and it was difficult to tell this dish was made with shrimp at all. We ate it because it was crunch and deep fried - just not what we expected. We also had the salt & vinegar chips which were OK but could have been much better if served hot out of the fryer. This is a new menu so perhaps some of the offerings will change in the future. We miss having lunch though. Lovely relaxing setting outside under the redwoods. New indoor tasting room also available although not dog friendly.
The mushroom risotto did not have one mushroom in it. The halibut was greasy and salty with mystery vegetables and the dessert was a ridiculously large chocolate thing that did not in any way make up for the overpriced meal. the salad was the highlight of the meal. Sadly for $85 pp.
I wish the Russian River Vineyards had mentioned they were having a prix fix meal on their website, or when we made the reservation. It came as a surprise but since we were already there, we decided to go with it. Throughout the meal, however, I intermittently wondered if the chef was actually playing a joke because the food was so odd. I like experimental food but salad with granola? It tasted just like salad with granola. The sashimi and chicken mcnuggets needed a little more vision and the risotto was way too salty, as was the caviar foam. The portions were tiny (but covered in shoots and sprouts). The dessert was monumental, however. Huge! I guess to make up for the lack of food in the prior courses? We hardly needed the additional cookies after that. I've never written a bad food review, and to be fair, the waitstaff and atmosphere were lovely. Maybe it's just not a good idea to go to a farm to table restaurant in the middle of winter when nothing is growing. The carrot was good. Perhaps if they had indicated it would be a prix fix meal in the first place we wouldn't have felt so blindsided and our tastebuds would have felt more solicitous?
5 of us went for lunch. Staff was attentive. Only 1 person of five truly enjoyed their meal. Fried pork sandwich was bland and greasy, which is sad because 3 people out of 5 got that. One person got mussels and was disappointed by the overwhelming flavor of only butter. The homemade chips that we all looked forward to were also a disappointment, bland and greasy like the fried pork. All the bread products were really good and the BLTurkey was delicious!
Squash soup was good. And the two salads consumed were also good. Great fresh ingredients!
I know this restaurant has always worked with their own outstanding garden bounty and much locally grown food and I've always appreciated that . The chef this day was uninspired.
We rarely have the funds to go out to the many fabulous restaurants in this area so when we do we need it to be a great experience. I don't feel I can recommend this to my wealthier clients who expect to pay for the lovely things in life.... like a great dining experience. And it will be a long while before I will try this place again, especially when there are so many other outstanding dining options in this area.
I was looking for places for wine tasting & lunch with some friends who were passing through on their way to Mendocino. Wow. This was perfect. Casual outside dining on a beautiful patio. Wine tasting on site. Dog friendly (they even offered her a bowl of water!). Just a relaxed, casual, delicious afternoon with friends. I couldn't have asked for any better. It's a little on the expensive side, but the food was amazing. We were there on a Weds for lunch so I don't know how busy it gets on the weekends but I'm already planning on having someone take me to lunch for my birthday there!!!
We enjoyed this place a lot! The outside seating is so nice and tons of places to sit and sip wine. You can sit outside or inside for dinner. We chose inside which was a bit fancier than outside. Very fun place and the food was awesome!! Glad we took the drive!
Very pleasant patio, and pleasant service. The food was trying to be good, but was missing the mark. Everything had a manufactured quality rather than a hand-made quality. This is a pretend fine dining establishment. If you're driving down 116 and you want to take a break, have a small dish and a glass of wine, but don't bother to spend$100/pp to have a mediocre yet pretentious dinner. Nothing was served to us that I couldn't have done better, myself, at home.
Wonderful spot for an intimate date or a group occasion. I love how animal friendly it is and just the overall ambiance. Did I mention the food?! Oh my gosh the food is to die for. I have never had a bad meal here. I love how often the recipe changes because it's always a fun surprise to see what options you'll have when you go!
As a club member of the RR Vineyard, I have dined at the restaurant many times while enjoying the wonderful wines of the RR winery. I love to eat outside under the stunning redwood trees, weather permitting. For me, this epitomizes the beauty and uniqueness of Sonoma County.
Otherwise, eating inside during cold months is a cozy and warm experience.
The food is consistently excellent. And there is a big garden onsite that provides much of the fruit and vegetables that is prepared there. This restaurant is truly one of my favorites, and I bring out of town guests here for a big 'wow' impression.
Relatively new rendition of old location redecorated and spruced up. Great menu with choices for all. Vegatarian possible. Quiet and relaxing with inside and outside tables on a warm summer night. Loved beet salad and fried chicken was tasty and moist . Will go again soon.
We have dined here for lunch several times and have always remarked about what a wonderful respite it is in the middle of the Russian River wine country. Hidden away but worth seeking out, it is the perfect compliment to a day of wine tasting or meeting place for that weekend brunch or lunch. Good selection of shared plates and salads for the lighter meal stop. Their local wines are definitely worth adding to a list of winery stops. We always say we'll return for dinner one night which we hear is amazing but never seem to have the designated driver volunteer for the long drive home after. Still, a perfect, beautiful spot.
Surprising food made from locally produced products. Rather small portions and higher-price range, but overall experience is absolutely positive. Nice waitress who let us combine our meal with a wine-tasting experience; if you like wine we surely recommend the wine tasting which normally takes place next to the restaurant...
Best burger I've ever had, and everything else was delicious too! Others had Heirloom BLT and Mary's Chicken Sandwich with Cashew Pistou - all of which came with the amazing paper-thin crispy housemade chips. Desserts were inventive and yummy, too.
This is fresh, local, made-to-order, all in a beautiful space complete with Redwood trees and vineyard views, and we will definitely be back!
