The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea Ratings and Reviews
The property and views are gorgeous. My husband, friend and I were really looking forward to dining here. We are locals and appreciate fine dining. Being that it is Hawaii’s first and only Relais & Châteaux restaurant, we were anticipating a culinary experience.
We were greeted and sat at a table with a nice view. They served dinner rolls similar to King Hawaiian rolls except smaller. One per person?
The waitress went over the menu, and did mention the first couple appetizers were one bites only. So my husband ordered the Truffle Risotto. It was literally 3 tablespoons worth of food with 3 pickled shallots that overpowered the entire dish, even the truffles and parmesan. As we waited for our entrees to arrive, (seemed to be taking a while but we felt that we weren't being rushed) our waitress stopped by to ask if we needed more drinks. My husband then told her about the risotto. She said she'd pass it on to the chef. Ok.
We patiently wait for our meals to arrive and ask for more bread. (Hungry!!)
Our meals arrive, we ordered rib eye, lamb and duck. We begin to eat and each one of us said the same thing...our meals were barely warm to cold. We informed the waitress, she told us the meals would be refired. So we wait again....25- 35 minutes.
No one approached our table to apologize for the cold meals, no offer of something to hold us over, perhaps a complimentary glass of wine, nothing was done. I say this again because this is a " Relais & Châteaux restaurant. And it holds higher esteem as such.
We finally receive our meals and while the food did taste really nice, my husbands WAGYU RIBEYE, was well.... tough and chewy. He had me try a bite and I'm sorry to say this, I had to try swallow it as it was very chewy. He mentioned it to our waitress but we really didn't want to have to wait on another meal. Again, no mgr approached our table, no offer of apology. We passed on dessert and left very disappointed.
The selection is limited but between my husband and me, we tried a third of the menu and everything that we ordered were superb and presented so attractively. We definitely recommend the ginger rubbed toka (octopus) appetizer. The service was exceptional and finessed , leisurely but just what you need if on a romantic or special occasion dinner date. I wished I remembered our server ‘s name but he was very helpful and knowledgeable. The only reason I gave the overall rating of 4 stars was because we were seated next to a large party and although they weren’t extremely loud, it ruined the romantic ambiance a little.
We went to The Restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We had a front row seat for a beautiful Maui sunset. The service was attentive with great recommendations. The drinks and food were not exactly “Hawaiian” compared to other places we went during our vacation but the food used local ingredients and was super flavorful. The ambience was romantic / quiet - perfect for a date or special occasion.
We decided to spend one of the nights of our honeymoon at the restaurant at Hotel Wailea and it was definitely something to remember. The seating offers diners a view that alone, makes it worth the price tag and we were seated just as the sun was setting. The service was impeccable and the food was delightful; the dessert was definitely worth sharing. The portions are small, which make it worth ordering an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I would recommend going if you are comfortable spending a minimum of $200 among two people.
Of all the restaurants to pick on the island after our wedding night dinner for two, we chose this one. We were not notified that because it being New Years Eve there was a prix fix menu. The choices were somewhat limited, the service was spotty and we thought it was really tacky for them to charge a cake cutting fee for our wedding cake for two, that was delivered to the restaurant, even though we didn't have the desert that was supposed to come with our meals. The food was good, but overpriced our meal was close to $500 with wine, and we left hungry because the portions were small.
We went for dinner following our wedding ceremony. Everything about this restaurant was exquisite. From the location, the ambiance, the service, the food. Can't say enough about how wonderful the food tasted. Highly recommend this restaurant!! We will definitely be back!!!
What a wonderful hidden gem. The ambiance was wonderful. We sat in the garden area and it was very private. The service was exceptional. Very knowledgeable servicers, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. We all had oysters to begin and the macadamian nut crusted lamb chops. Wow were they wonderful. The chocolate lava dessert had a nice presentation with a marshmallow flambeau. Highly recommend.
a wonderful location, hotel and restaurant. beautiful views of the ocean and sunset. Food is creative and well done, though menu somewhat limited. Very nice wine list but weighted towards very expensive wines--though we found a wonderful new wine for ourselves that was well priced. Highly recommend for that special occasion or celebration!
The Restaurant was our top dinning experience and most memorable meal in Maui. We have dined at many of the best restaurants on the island but this took the prize. From ambiance to service to the food to the wine, everything was spot on. This will be a regular stop for us on our returns to Maui.
We had a wonderful experience for Thanksgiving dinner. The sunset from this property is amazing, the service was impeccable and attentive. Special menu and the turkey dinner was very good. Can't wait to go back for their regular menu, the oysters Rockafeller were superb, they come flaming and makes the ingredients so tasty!!!
Thanksgiving Eve dinner. Mark gave us great (friendly; knowledgable about each dish; low-key, not high-pressure; professional) service. Oysters on half shell from Washington State, expertly seasoned (Mignonette sauce, subtle vinegar; with pickled radish), plump, tasty, beautifully/uniquely presented on pebbles/mini-river rocks. Grilled Tako (octopus) perfectly cooked. Kampachi Crudo very good (3 had it 3 nights in a row in Honolulu restaurants as well). Broiled Maine Lobster with Dungeness Carb satisfied our shellfish cravings; light, not too rich. Colorado Lamb Chops plump and moist. And of course, signature Sunflower/Pumpkin Seed rolls with honey butter. Unfortunately, Pumpkin Souffle for dessert was sold out, but it sounded good and seasonally appropriate.
I just sent a review which I understood would be a private message to the restaurant at the Wailea Hotel. I do NOT want my review posted for everyone to see....I want only the personnel at the restaurant to see it. Please make sure this is the case. Mary Magnano
