The food was delicious - the staff was attentive all around and our waiter was great. We celebrated my boyfriend's bday and couldn't have asked for a better night.
We each had a glass of wine and then started with the Calamari app. For our main course we both had the Triggerfish.
The wine was excessively expensive. Cheapest GLASS was $19! Note to self, have wine at home! Both the Calamaris and the Triggerfish were reasonably priced and tasted very good.
Service eas great
The restaurant hadn’t been cleaned, there were flies all over and the server was unclean.
Great place! We sat at the bar and Tony the bartender was terrific. The food was really good - Thursday is prime rib day! People were very friendly. Will definitely go back.
Fun, low key evening with long time friends. The food and the service were very, very good.
Surprisingly good restaurant in the Harris Teeter strip center. Cioppino was excellent as was the burger. Our server Danica was outstanding.
Beautiful restaurant in old Charleston. Great seafood offerings and drinks.
Snapper was amazing.
Only thing wrong was, they don't serve coffee! Wanted some with our desert, but no.
Great food. Great service. Loud.
Chef did not show up for work and the wait time for food was over 1 hour
I could tell the waitress was happy and loved her job! Food was EXCELLENT! Great location.
VERY disappointed! The only high point was the hostess! A vey sweet young lady.
First, let me say it was not crowded, several tables full, inside a coupe outside. Most were already eating or had ordered.
We we seated in a nice booth and waited a bit for someone to come by, probably 5 minutes for water and the waiter. He was not very personable and acted like he was bothered to have another table. We ordered an appetizer of the deviled eggs and a bowl of lobster bisque, and the main course. The apps took a while to come out. The eggs were rubbery, the soup was ok.
Then we waited and waited and waited for the mains. After at least 45 minutes we went to the bar to tell them we were tired of waiting and were leaving (couldn’t get the waiters attention). We attempted to pay for the appetizer and soup but the manager kindly comped it.
Overall a very bad experience!
Fantastic love everything 1st time there
Great place - will go back!
They are understaffed, but the servers were really working hard to try and provide great service. They either needed another server or fewer tables. The trigger fish was so salty that we couldn’t eat it. The drinks were slow in coming out and we spent 30 mins waiting on a glass of wine at the beginning of the meal.
I understand everyone is short staffed that being said…
Our waiter barely made eye contact with us for 39 minutes
Apps came out pretty quickly but entrees took another hour. No apologies no communication as to why the delay.
Food was very good when it did arrive but not worth the wait.
Also if you offer 1/2 price wine it should include all wine.
Disappointing experience overall
We had a great time celebrating our son's birthday. Food was great!
As usual The Refuge did not disappoint!! I will be back again soon!!
Great dinner - food was delicious- and service (Jason) made our evening! This place is a local gem!
Really pleasant staff, food great, but too noisy.
Food was great, waiter was very efficient and pleasant.
We will return!
It would take quite a bit for me to go here again
The food was amazing! Highly recommend!
The meal was served with attention to detail. Our server made suggestions but never rushed us. The bar played music a little too loudly but the overall experience was nice.
food was excellent
service got a little confused and forgot our salad
tha food more than made up for the slip up
Neven was incredible. We’ll be back next weekend!
Great experience. Seated on time, great service! Food and drinks were very good, only minor complaint was the food could have been served a little hotter. Overall wonderful place to go, we will be back.
My boyfriend and i had a 7:45 reservation for Tuesday steak night. We arrived at 7:35 and was sat right away. We proceeded to sit there until it became 8:15 and was absolutely stunned we had been waiting to be greeted for 40 min. We were passed by servers especially one in particular many times with no acknowledgement. Until around 8:20 a woman server said I’ll be right back with you all
As she was walking by, no real stop or no greeting. She never came back- but walked by again and again. I finally got up at 8:30 and asked for a wine menu and mentioned to the nice hostess that we haven’t been greeted yet and it had been been almost a hour. Honestly I’m not sure why we even stayed at that point. But we were very excited to try this place as i had made this reservation several weeks before our arrival. We stay in the wild dunes so we were pleased with the location of this restaurant and made the comment when we first sat down that we would consider coming back next week as we are here for 2 weeks..now absolutely not! we were greeted by a server he was apologetic and considerate of our neglect but even then our beer and wine still took another 15-20 min. The restaurant at this point was cleared out from the dinner crowd, we are not sure why there was such a poor service when it wasn’t that busy. We finally got drinks and made our orders. I will say the food was decent and hot, but as to another disappointment our steaks came out missing our ordered sides being told they ran out of baked potatoes and mashed potatoes. you are in a plaza with a grocery store, if you run out of potatoes- go grab them. Why would you have a designated steak night and run out of key items. We were given fries, then offered fingerling potatoes, and yet again was told they ran out of those. Our experience was just awful, we would never consider giving this another try because of how it went. Where was the manager?? Never saw one! Huge flag! We were also not the only table this happened too.
My husband has newly diagnosed celiac disease and asked for advice on safe menu options. The manager was contradictory with his suggested gluten free menu options and cross contamination but the restaurant had gotten previous good reviews on the GF app so we proceeded with the order of edited menu items. The waitress returned to ask for our order, which we repeated, no less than 4 times before switching our orders, and served my husband French onion soup with the crostini still in it. They brought him a new soup and he ate fish, rice, and vegetables but was severely ill within 30 minutes of leaving and symptoms continued the next day. While the waitress and manager made a feeble attempt to serve gluten free items, it was clear that the restaurant is extremely ill prepared to accommodate patrons with a true gluten allergy. We were also overcharged by $12.
Service and food delivery was slow. Food was good. Extremely noisy
Very good food!! However, I felt the portions were small compared to price, but overall, this is a very good restaurant. Will definitely dine here again.
Great food. Menu was interesting . Service was great.
Food was pretty good! good coctails
Fantastic Neighborhood Casual Restaurant. A happening local spot with great drinks, good food and Good Vibes!
Nothing special about the food or the restaurant. Below average. We were staying on Isle of palms and when it's something close our last night should have just gone in to downtown Charleston again food is way better and the prices were about the same.
There were tons of flies. I’d never got back. While trying to eat among the flies the food was not very good
It took awhile to get our food but they were short handed & our waiter was doing his best so we didn’t mind. Food was very good
We went to Refuge for the first time last weekend. Our waiter was absent the majority of our meal and forgot several things. Not much of a personality either. BUT the food was great and the hostess who seated us had a wonderful personality. We decided to not make a decision quite yet. We went back this weekend. We sat at the bar. The food was once again awesome. Roman was the bartender. He was outstanding…very attentive (while still busy with the rest of the restaurant) and has a great personality. We will definitely go back. Thanks Roman!
Waited 15 minutes for water. All of our courses were brought out at once. Very stressful meal.
Amazing appetizers, wedge salad was to die for and the steak and frites was perfection!
