Food was great, waiter was very efficient and pleasant.
We will return!
It would take quite a bit for me to go here again
The food was amazing! Highly recommend!
The meal was served with attention to detail. Our server made suggestions but never rushed us. The bar played music a little too loudly but the overall experience was nice.
food was excellent
service got a little confused and forgot our salad
tha food more than made up for the slip up
Neven was incredible. We’ll be back next weekend!
Great experience. Seated on time, great service! Food and drinks were very good, only minor complaint was the food could have been served a little hotter. Overall wonderful place to go, we will be back.
My boyfriend and i had a 7:45 reservation for Tuesday steak night. We arrived at 7:35 and was sat right away. We proceeded to sit there until it became 8:15 and was absolutely stunned we had been waiting to be greeted for 40 min. We were passed by servers especially one in particular many times with no acknowledgement. Until around 8:20 a woman server said I’ll be right back with you all
As she was walking by, no real stop or no greeting. She never came back- but walked by again and again. I finally got up at 8:30 and asked for a wine menu and mentioned to the nice hostess that we haven’t been greeted yet and it had been been almost a hour. Honestly I’m not sure why we even stayed at that point. But we were very excited to try this place as i had made this reservation several weeks before our arrival. We stay in the wild dunes so we were pleased with the location of this restaurant and made the comment when we first sat down that we would consider coming back next week as we are here for 2 weeks..now absolutely not! we were greeted by a server he was apologetic and considerate of our neglect but even then our beer and wine still took another 15-20 min. The restaurant at this point was cleared out from the dinner crowd, we are not sure why there was such a poor service when it wasn’t that busy. We finally got drinks and made our orders. I will say the food was decent and hot, but as to another disappointment our steaks came out missing our ordered sides being told they ran out of baked potatoes and mashed potatoes. you are in a plaza with a grocery store, if you run out of potatoes- go grab them. Why would you have a designated steak night and run out of key items. We were given fries, then offered fingerling potatoes, and yet again was told they ran out of those. Our experience was just awful, we would never consider giving this another try because of how it went. Where was the manager?? Never saw one! Huge flag! We were also not the only table this happened too.
My husband has newly diagnosed celiac disease and asked for advice on safe menu options. The manager was contradictory with his suggested gluten free menu options and cross contamination but the restaurant had gotten previous good reviews on the GF app so we proceeded with the order of edited menu items. The waitress returned to ask for our order, which we repeated, no less than 4 times before switching our orders, and served my husband French onion soup with the crostini still in it. They brought him a new soup and he ate fish, rice, and vegetables but was severely ill within 30 minutes of leaving and symptoms continued the next day. While the waitress and manager made a feeble attempt to serve gluten free items, it was clear that the restaurant is extremely ill prepared to accommodate patrons with a true gluten allergy. We were also overcharged by $12.
Service and food delivery was slow. Food was good. Extremely noisy
Very good food!! However, I felt the portions were small compared to price, but overall, this is a very good restaurant. Will definitely dine here again.
Great food. Menu was interesting . Service was great.
Food was pretty good! good coctails
Fantastic Neighborhood Casual Restaurant. A happening local spot with great drinks, good food and Good Vibes!
Nothing special about the food or the restaurant. Below average. We were staying on Isle of palms and when it's something close our last night should have just gone in to downtown Charleston again food is way better and the prices were about the same.
There were tons of flies. I’d never got back. While trying to eat among the flies the food was not very good
It took awhile to get our food but they were short handed & our waiter was doing his best so we didn’t mind. Food was very good
We went to Refuge for the first time last weekend. Our waiter was absent the majority of our meal and forgot several things. Not much of a personality either. BUT the food was great and the hostess who seated us had a wonderful personality. We decided to not make a decision quite yet. We went back this weekend. We sat at the bar. The food was once again awesome. Roman was the bartender. He was outstanding…very attentive (while still busy with the rest of the restaurant) and has a great personality. We will definitely go back. Thanks Roman!
Waited 15 minutes for water. All of our courses were brought out at once. Very stressful meal.
Amazing appetizers, wedge salad was to die for and the steak and frites was perfection!
Great place, for an upscale dinner. Most tourist towns cater to the "board shorts and flipflop crowd". This place adds some elegance to the normal fast fried, tourist food. But, it's not pretentious. It seems to be a great place for groups, as there were 3 and each had more then 10 in their party.
Put this on your list of place to grab some great food, good wine and awesome service.
Good food and good service. We both really enjoyed our meal.
Food was bland and overpriced. Food had an allergen, which we asked about prior to ordering and were assured it was not.
We had a terrific dinner …5 of us and everyone’s entree was different and delicious. Good wine choices - would highly recommend for an easy supper on IOP!
We had a fabulous dinner. The only comment was they had two tables of 10 and they were very loud. Obviously the restaurant couldn’t predict the crowd noise!! Always food was fabulous!!!
The food was fantastic! Also we had a fabulous waiter, who was very attentive. Great place!! Highly recommend.
Went there for dinner. Got there at 7:35, seated immediately.
This was our second time at Refuge after having a great first experience. Service was good, appetizers were great but unfortunately this time our food was extremely salty. Both the lobster mac and cheese and the chicken saltimbocca were loaded with salt to the point my daughter wouldnt eat it. Filet mignon was great as was the deviled egg appetizer and bread pudding.
Wonderful food and attentive service. Everything we ordered was delicious!
Great service, delicious food, will repeat our visit!
Wonderful experience at the Refuge. The food was amazing!
Excellent experience! Food, service, wine and ambiance excellent!
It was good! I do wish the menu had more non seafood items but that’s what for being at the beach. Overall a good experience!
So glad you were open on Monday night. The food was great.
It was a good time
Delicious. I did not like the Quinoa cold with my hot salmon and spinach and the manager took care of it. it would be nice to have bread at the table, especially for the portion size and price.
The Refuge salad with champagne vinaigrette was simple perfection. The flavors of the cheese and vinaigrette blended well with each other. This a healthy salad full of greens, succulent beets, asparagus and tomatoes. O enjoyed the salmon which not only was cooked to perfection but came with sauteed spinach and acini di pepe pasta (instead of quinoa which they may have been out of). The citrus sauce made it all come together nicely. The shrimp and grits was also delicious and hearty. We did not have room for dessert. There's a coffee shop inside next door which also sells tea and gifts. The service was outstanding and friendly. It did boast several loud guests in dining room. There is also a bar. This meal did not disappoint and it was nice not having to go into Charleston and play the restaurant roulette game if whether you can get in or not.
The server seemed miserable. There were dead flies on the windowsill next to our table. Seemed irritated that we were GF with no good suggestions of how to change the dishes to meet our diet. The Brussels were really good though.
We have gone here everytime we visit iop but this time it was a disappointment. There was not much of a choice on the menu and service was slow. It took forever for our salads to come out and then we took two bites of our salad and our main entree came out. We were very disappointed.
A definite don’t miss! The waitress was kind and helpful with menu choices and questions. We had steak frites, chicken saltimbocca, and lobster Mac and cheese. Everyone was very pleased with their food. I’m glad we went to this restaurant!
