   Stay away… so much potential for this location but the service was slow & chaotic, food wasn’t good & the atmosphere was dated, dingy & grimy. Photos & Social media were very misleading.

   We had reservations at 7:00pm on May 28. Our server came over and said she’d be right back with water for the table. We waited 15 minutes before asking another server for water. We placed our order along with a bottle of very nice wine. Our server came back 20 minutes later telling us they can’t find the wine, then another 15 minutes later she said she found it She brought the wine to the table well after our appetizers were served. Cold clam chowder. Our dinner didn’t come out of the kitchen until after 8:30pm! Almost 90 minutes after we sat down and placed our order. The flat iron steak was underwhelming ( burnt not in a good way )and overcooked and the bok choy wasn’t even cleaned, sandy. The waygu sirloin was drowning in sauce and the mushroom risotto was a solid gelatinous lump. When confronting both the server and floor manager all they could do is give us a weak answer and walked away. One server, Alec who was extremely helpful said this was an issue all night. The management wanted to gave us originally a $50 gift card. I wanted the $50 credit in my bill as I don’t think I’d ever walk into The Reef again. If you value a wonderful evening of food, drink and atmosphere, there are plenty of options in Newport other than The Reef.

   The food was not great. The Lobster bisque soup was luke warm. The presentation of the Turkey Avocado sandwich was great. Until I bit into it, It was missing the avocado. The sandwich consist of a very small amount of turkey, lettuce and a large piece of tomato, could not taste the bacon as well. Very disappointed! We won’t be going back anytime soon.

   Probably our favorite dining experience in Newport!! Sat inside for lunch with a view of the water (the whole wall is opened up so it feels like you’re outside) and it was absolutely beautiful!! We loved everything we ate and drank so much we almost came back for dinner one night (but we had so many places to try and not enough time). We will definitely be back next time we’re in town.

   Booked a last minute reservation for a lunch date and it did not disappoint. Great food and great ambience. Loved being able to enjoy lunch on the water! Would definitely come back again!

   We got seated right away but no one came to our table for about 15 minutes. After that the server was prompt but detached - no warmth. Our food lacked flavor but was edible. I had the hamburger with fries, it was a bit undercooked...and had no seasoning. The prices were modest so I was not going to make any fuss about it.

   Came here for Sunday brunch. We got the salmon and vegetarian omelettes and they were both flavorful. We were disappointed when we were told we couldn’t get a slice of bread with our order, even though we said we were fine with paying extra for it. They serve sandwiches and avocado toast so I don’t see why they couldn’t give us a slice of bread!

   The food and the service were excellent. The manager was friendly and made sure to take us personally to our table. They brought out a wonderful cake for my girlfriend. Overall a great time. Definitely check it out.

    I went to the Reef for the first time ever to celebrate my 50th Birthday and upon arriving I was greeted by a smiling hostess who presented me with a Birthday card signed by their entire staff. I had the aged steak and my Girlfriend had the Smoked Salmon Risotto which was cooked to perfection. The attention of the staff and overall experience far exceeded my expectations. The Manager even went as far as to comp my desert or choice for my birthday. If you are looking to feel appreciated then go to the Reef and their staff will surely treat you like someone special. This is a quality 5 Star Dining establishment.

    The restaurant advertised a themed brunch, which is why we chose to drive an hour to attend. They did not have the event or provide an explanation. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. The opportunity for a great water view is obstructed by an old gazebo covering some of the outdoor seating. The table we had was very wobbly, which was annoying with the glasses on the table. Parking was $33. I was expecting a better experience based on the way that the restaurant presents itself. Unfortunately, I would not go back.

We did have our Reggae DJ in the Harborside dining room & Our outdoor patio offers beautiful unobstructed views.     We sat in the bar area. The live music was great but a little loud at times. The fried chicken was great. The halibut special was over cooked and the tuna was warm. We had a great time, we just wish the food lived up to the other reviews.

    Wow ! What a disaster of an experience . The day before the reservation we asked if we could add two more people to our reservation and the answer was no. They were at capacity was the answer. They very easily could have added tow people based on the number of people dining at the time of our reservation . That should have been a warning sign. While we were seated right away we were seated in what felt like a wind tunnel . They did very graciously agree to move us to a different table. Then we were handed a very skinnied down menu due to it being Mothers day . This was not identified at the time of booking the reservation. Had we seen the limited options that would be available we would have canceled . The place was really not that crowded where they had to offer a limited menu. The experience kept going down hill. My mother in law asked if she could have bread delivered to the table and the waitress said that was not an option . There was absolutely no straying from this very limited menu. Waitress told us that the chef was sticking very strictly to exactly what was on the very limited menu . Two of of us had Lobster rolls . Mediocre at best with the lobster somewhat overcooked and very dry. Everyone else’s meals were underwhelming as were the drinks . Overpriced for what we had and the whole experience was very disappointing . We will not be back to The Reef anytime soon . Especially stay away on any Holiday . Kind of spoiled our Mother’s day celebration.

Adding to your party the before two guests simply was not possible as we were at capacity. We work hard to manage expectations and apologize that we fell short on this occasion.     Great experience! We never felt rushed, food was delicious(desserts were ok), staff was very friendly and very attentive after a brief miscommunication of who our server was. It met all expectations for Mothers Day which can be challenging.

    Waited over 30 minutes to be asked for our drink orders. Repeatedly asked for water (a total of 3X) that we never received. Someone in my party ordered their steak medium and it looked to still have a pulse at the table. I got the tuna which accompanied a heavy unpleasant stench of fish.

    Danielle served us so well. She was polite, bright, cheerful and enthusiastic about the menu and helping us enjoy our meal. The burgers were delicious, fire-grilled and juicy. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken that came with cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppy waffles. Sounded amazing. The baked beans were perfect and the coleslaw just run-of-the-mill. The chicken was tender and crispy. But everything that should have been hot, was only warm. The waffles were really dry, too. My son ordered the Bailey's French Toast and it was just warm, too. Had to ask for syrup. Overall, The Reef did not live up to the hype, but maybe it was just having a bad day. I can see huge potential in the food. Flavors were mostly there. Service, again, was superb!

    It was ok. There were multiple private events which always is a challenge. Food was fine but not really worth a second visit.

    The wine 🍷 and service was very good. The meals were substandard at best and one meal was described as “This is the worst combination of flavors I’ve ever encountered”. The pre-gaming before arrival made it bearable but the overall value was less than desirable. Signed, Won’t go again

    We want to like The Reef. We know they are trying to get things started, but it seemed less prepared than when sent in the winter and, frankly, the food was not great. Harsh lighting, crammed-in tables, inexperienced staff, blah, wedding venue fare. Good for a drink outside in the summer or maybe a burger at the bar. I would avoid it for real meals. Sorry.

    Our dinners were very good. The tuna was cooked perfectly and the Norwegian Salmon was excellent. It was a good value for the money and a nice place. You will not go wrong here.

    The food and service were very good. We had tuna, skirt steak, and clam chowder. All were very good. They didn’t participate in Restaurant Week but offered us 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for a fixed price. We will definitely be back. The sunset could not have been more spectacular!

    Typical Newport on the waterfront restaurant. Nice view of the harbor. Food is mediocre and pricy they don’t serve bread while waiting for meal. Service was prompt and food came out relatively quick. No window shades in the main dining room so late afternoon sun is blasting and too bright for those facing west.

    We enjoyed a great evening at The Reef. Angelica and the rest of the staff were attentive, efficient and friendly. Apps (Burrata type chacuterie, chowder and crab cakes) were very good as were our drinks (the Dirty Martini came in an oversized glass!). Meals were also enjoyable and the sunny dining room with a cool fireplace and amazing oversized photos provides for a great atmosphere. We later moved into the bar area with live music and a beautiful view of the setting sun.

    "Adult" raspberry lemonade was perfect. Meaning, I don't like the taste of alcohol but it was in there. We had a dinner of salads and apps. NE clam chowder was very good. Kale Caesar had a wonderfully tangy dressing. Spinach salad with figs and pistachios -- same. Mussels were good. But the calamari... melt in your mouth outstanding. The menu is limited but innovative. Someone in the kitchen is thinking critically. Too early in the season to sit outside so we enjoyed the view of Newport Harbor through the glass. Restaurant sits at the end of Howard Wharf in an unassuming building surrounded by multi-million dollar condos.
