The Reef Ratings and Reviews
Went for dine LA and you would think the food would be amazing as they want to impress potential repeat diners. First course calamari was pretty good. But the fish and chips were cold and greasy - unacceptable for a seafood restaurant. Desert was meh.
Everyone I took to the Reef said it was really nice, looked very clean and beautiful. All would return the Reef for special occasion, food was great, the view was nice and the kids love seeing the Queen Mary and all the boats. perfect place to go to get away from your everyday life.
Loved the ambiance and the friendly staff who took our selfy. Great service for a first timer. I grew up fishing right in front of the queen mary as a kid and would always see The Reef but never went in since I was like 10, now that I'm 39, I'm glad I did and will be back soon. Loved it. My girlfriend enjoyed it as well as I made reservations for her birthday.
The Reef has better food than the light house steak house across the bay ;)
My family and I got here when they opened at 11am on a Wednesday. It was nice and quiet! It was also the day after a rainy day, so the air was crisp and clean, and the views magnificent! I would love to return for maybe just coffee and dessert. I would sit outside and enjoy the view!!
The 3 course New Year's eve dinner for $65 was SO Delicious! My gf and I got both options filet mignon and seafood dish...lobster scallops etc were great. filet melted in our mouths. the only disappointment w the food was the Hershey's syrup on the tiramisu dessert...made it taste like a kid's dessert. The decor is outdated and the entry area actually has a strong musty smell like old carpet. Place needs a makeover but the large windo water/skyline views and food are the stars here.
We visited The Reef for New Years Eve and had a wonderful dinner. We arrived about one hour early and the restaurant was able to seat us right away. They put us in the Ellington Room which was very romantic and had a great view. We were the only ones in this room for most of our dinner. It was pretty cool having the entire room to yourself. We will definitely be back to visit the Reef again! Thumbs Up!
I had a gift certificate through specilaity resturants based in Anahiem, Ca. There wasn't a way to redeem it. I let the resturant know it was our aniversary, other than the waiter saying "happy aniversary", they did nothing else, we had our wedding reception in one of the banquet rooms several years ago, so that was the reason for being at the Reef. It was great at our wedding. My food was cold and our meal was overpriced and everything was alacart. Wow. What a way to spend your wedding aniversary. I am going call and talk to the manager tomorrow, to let them know how unhappy we were. We will not return, the Yardhouse gave us a aniversary desert, last year, with happy aniversary stencialed in cocoa. We will return there where they give great service, sad experiance at the Reef.
Despite having to wait 30 minutes for a reserved table, we enjoyed The Reef. It was within easy walking distance of our hotel although the many stairs on waterfront side were difficult for two diners. Delightful specialty drinks started our meals: crab cakes, clam chowder, oriental salad, fish and chips were all very good. We then shared a dessert of tiramisu and left very satisfied. Prices were very fair and service was friendly and professional.
The Reef was a disappointment. First - the positive. You can’t beat the view - across the water from Long Beach. Our server was attentive and friendly. The negatives - restaurant is tired and dingy. It needs a complete redo. We almost turned around when we entered. We had clam chowder (pretty good) and fish & chips. Far too much batter on the fish. Their motto is “come for the view, stay for the food”. I can only agree with the first half of it
The food was cold and unattractive. The service lacked style, e.g no plates, sharp knives. I have been to the Reef for dinner services many times and enjoyed both the food and the service, but the buffet was not very good. I would have expected better for Christmas Eve.
We sat outside on Christmas Eve for their Holiday buffet. The view was really nice, overlooking the water and Downtown Long Beach. It was about 70 degrees outside with no wind so it was a spectacular December day.
The buffet was arranged with about 5-6 different areas: a breakfast area, salad area, carving station, Mexican food, cheese/meat trays, and a dessert area. I liked the fact everything was spread out so the lines were more manageable. The abundance and variety of food was impressive. I thought the quality of the food was a bit lacking though and I would not dine at the Reef again.
Was very very disappointed with the food!!!!! For the price $47.95 the selection was NOT WORTH IT!!! A lot of the food was Luke warm , the ham was salty and the roast beef had no taste and was tough: I won’t be going back again any time soon... 🙁🙁🙁 The Queen Mary has a much better brunch !!! I have been numerous times and never been disappointed 👍🏻👍🏻🤩🤩
Overall the combination of food, service, and superb ocean view table made for a fantastic evening. The only caveat is that The Reef can be a little tricky to find if it is your first time going there so be patient if your GPS goes a little haywire like mine did.
I came here for a work party and I was very disappointed about the way that the buffet was set up. I was also very sad that most of the people at my work did not get to get what they wanted to order as the lines were so long. I brought it up to the waitstaff and also to the manager but nothing was fixed on my visit. I did not ask for a discount because I felt like the people that were working did a good job of trying to service but there were not enough staff members at all. Even though I have hosted events here in the pass I do not think that I will come back.
Love this place! Very lovely view. We always sit outside because it is so California. Brunch is my fave time to go to this venue because i love bubbly with my brunch. Our waiters are always responsive and keep my glass filled. I bring my teen nieces here.. who obviously do not drink, and even though more than half of the people in my group do not drink it is well worth the price.
The Reef is excellent for brunch. But, I put in a request for a booth in a particular server's area and, when we arrived, the booths were all gone. The hostess said that they were all reserved, but I got a quick look at the reservation book and we were among the first reservations of the day. It is obvious that the hostesses did not look at the reservation list when they started seating people in the booths. This is a situation that should be addressed.
Other than the seating problem, the food was excellent and the view is very enjoyable.
