We had a reservation and finally got seated 50 minutes late. After waiting at the table for 15 minutes without seeing any server we left without eating a thing.
This was I thought was going to be a romantic birthday dinner for two but was not! We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and we were told that the kitchen was behind they were not seating! We waited 45 minutes to be seated! The girl at the front was rude! I asked I why didn’t you call us to let us know? We could have taken our time or made other arrangements! She looked at me like I was stupid! Our reservation was at 7:15pm and we did not leave till after 10pm! The only thing that made our experience nice was our server and the two guys tending the bar! If it wasn’t for them we probably would have left! Will I ever choose the Reef again! Most likely NOT!
Took my girlfriend here for an impromptu date night. Definitely recommend dressing in business casual or a button up with jeans and nice shoes. Beautiful views it was a pretty crowded Saturday night which caused our reservation to be delayed a bit. Totally ok the bar has a view of down town Long Beach which made the wait fine. The Reef had a wonderful selection of wine and cocktails. My GF had the house Cab Sauv 9 dollars a glass and was very good. Not too dry with a refreshing sweetness to it. I had the Hennessy pineapple cocktail highly recommend. This was 12.50 we then sat on this sofa couch right next to the viewing glass which was very beautiful. They had a wonderful dinner deal where you get to choose a starter, entree, and dessert. All for 40 dollars the best deal around! I couldn't believe this high end of a place had something like this on a peak night. We had a wonderful night and highly recommend anyone in the area to give The Reef a try. A true Long Beach local gem and a great way to start out your night.
My future mother in law visited us from out of town. She truly enjoyed the space and the service, although she didn’t care for the blackened swordfish. My fiancé loved the shrimp and scallops fried rice and I enjoyed the linguine. Overall, it’s a nice restaurant with a beautiful view.
My wife and I decided to go to The Reef because some friends were in town and we thought it'd be a great opportunity to try this restaurant since they were participating in Dine LA. On paper the Dine LA menu sounded great but in reality it was disappointing. The pineapple fried rice was too saucy while their fish and chips were extremely disappointing which was surprising considering the location and name of the restaurant. Our appetizers (we got calamari and their spinach dip) tasted generic. The tiramisu was decent but their lava cake wasn't molten. We will not be returning as this first impression definitely left us disappointed.
the restaurant was too cold which made the experience less pleasant.
The food was good. View was nice. Service was quick.
One of the best DineLA participants! They had variety of good options and everything I ordered was excellent. A really great location with nice ambiance.
There about 20 open tables in other sections, but the hostess chose to seat us in a room with a large party happening. It was very loud and uncomfortable (you could tel that the party was uncomfortable with us being there). I don’t blame them, it was strange that we got seated there, and they had every right to be loud, they were practically in a private room. The restaurant was incredibly understaffed, I think our server was the only one there, so service was very slow. We asked to be moved when our dessert came, and when we sat in the new section where it was quiet (again, the restaurant was mostly empty) we were very relieved. However, we were pretty furious that we hadn’t insisted to be moved until our meal was over. It was a bad experience.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate you letting us know about your recent experience and we will work to improve our service especially with our host staff to make them aware of these types of situations. Thank you The Reef Management Team
Some dishes we outstanding many were not. Very inconsistent experience. Manager was nice and accommodating but it doesn’t take away of the disappointment when you are out to have a dining experience after a long workday
I wouldn't travel across town to dine here, but was decent for the short walk. Food was pretty good, but they were out of several things. Was a nice quiet dining experience.
Thank you for you feed back we appreciate your comments, we will share with our Culinary team and hope to improve our service in the future. The Reef Management
My friends and I love to brunch at The Reef on Sundays! The host Maggie was very nice and helpful. Our server Amber was amazing! She gave great service and had a great personality.
Poor food quality. Cafeteria food not a fine dining very disappointed!
Hi, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us at the Reef, I will be sharing with our team to better improve our cuisine offerings. We hope that you would consider returning in the future. Thank you - The Reef Management
Great salmon dinner & prime rib French dip sandwich. Beautiful bay view of LB skyline!!
A lots of kids and some of Birthday party going on. It was so noisy.
Only Valet parking $4.50 per car
Table was filthy, silverware stuck to table, old food crusted on table, table napkins were dirty, just gross, changed tables mid meal. Brunch options were limited, server did not offer complimentary champagne. Long valet wait even though I was the only one waiting to leave, they had a hard time finding my car.
Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback on your recent experience for brunch. We will be sharing with our team to improve ourselves and evaluate our menu offerings and service standards. We apologize for your recent experience. We hope that you might consider giving us another try in the future. - The Reef Management Team
Took my husband for his birthday. We enjoyed the view, the food and the service. Will definitely be back.
We have been dining at The Reef for over 20 years. We have gone twice in the last 4 months and I’m sorry to say we won’t be returning. The Sunday brunch has changed over the last year. They no longer have manned stations and you have to put an order in with your server to get some of the standard items (omelette, eggs Benedict, etc) We didn’t like the change because this meant we had to wait for our server to come around to take our order but we could live with the change. We ordered the omelette and Eggs Benedict, both were overcooked. Additionally, the food items that are in the chafing dishes just didn’t taste good. They were also supposed to have turkey which never arrived while we were there. We chose The Reef for brunch because it feels like home For us but sadly, we will have to find a new place to call home. We will miss Augie who has always made our brunch experience so much fun. And our server on Sunday was also very good but we refuse to pay $100 for two for brunch just for good service.
Hi Annie, Thank you for taking the time to share with us about your recent experience with us, our brunch has changed over the past year and it was meant to bring a heightened service aspect to brunch. I apologize we were not successful with your experience and we will work towards our goal. We also will be evaluating our brunch offerings as well. I appreciate your feedback and hope one day you will call us home again. - The Reef Management Team.
The Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Reef is always excellent. The servers are attentive and the view can't be beat. The only complaint we have is that the restaurants puts a 2 hour limit on your meal even when they are not busy.
I made our reservation for 10:45 so that we could enjoy the fireworks for the New Year yet because of our experience we left at 11:55 before the New Year.
We arrived at 10:45 and were seated immediately which was nice. The next time we had contact with anyone was at 11:15 because my husband went to the bar to get water. Finally at 11:20 the waiter Jay came to take our drink order and apologized for the delay and returned shortly for our food order. Jay was kind and gave us a soup and salad on the house to make up for the wait. When we received our food my husbands order was correct yet mine on the other hand was totally wrong, I ordered a Ribeye but received Salmon😳 As we waited for my food to be corrected a man was going table to table greeting customers but when he got to our table he gave us a nasty look, did not acknowledge our presence and went to the table next to us to check their service/experience.
At this point we are done that was the last straw! We called Jay to the table and he confirmed what we observed and we let him know that we would be leaving, my food had still not been served, my husband’s food at this point was cold because he was waiting on me so that we could eat together.
We will never give The Reef our business again...
Our server was amazing!!! The food was not good at all. Ordered Prime Rib medium cooked and two times it came out well done. After the third time is was correct but my friend and I were over it at that point. The mashed potatoes tasted and looked like they were burnt and made 3 days ago. They were brownish looking too. Since I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years and have ordered mashed potatoes before I’ve never gotten them to look like this. They were not the normal white fluffy kind. I am not sure if I will be back to be honest. We spent a lot of money for our dinner and for the prime rib and mash potatoes to it taste good is sad.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, we apologize we did not create that memorable experience for you. We will be evaluating with our team to make sure to work on our food quality. Thank you once again for your feedback as we will work to make ourselves better. - The Reef Management Team
Good service but overpriced food and in our case overcooked steaks. All in all disappointing. Great location though and the server was very good.
After so many folks raved, we finally went to the reef. I was expecting not only a beautiful view of the ocean but also great food and service. Service and the view were satisfactory but the food left me having to go through a drive through after. We ordered an array of food items and the only person that enjoyed theirs was the one who had a sandwich. The fish entree plates lacked flavor to say the least. I’m hoping it was just a rough day for the cook. Hoping to give this place one more chance maybe during Sunday brunch before completely writing them off as overrated.
I got married at the Reef and have been back a few times for brunch including Christmas. This year was a little off from the service, food and the bill. The valet and bar service was nice but not much else to rave about. We were even overcharged! If we hadn't been just sitting there I would have never noticed. They charged me for 8 instead of the 6 actual people that were there! I wished I had better things to say and that I would be back but those would be lies.
The quality of food, service, and ambiance has definitely deteriorated over the years! It was like going to an expensive cafeteria. So, so, so disappointed. No tablecloth on table, incomplete place settings, cold food, etc, etc.
Hi Alissa, Thank you for sharing your feedback from your Christmas Day brunch, I will be sharing with the team so that we can better ourselves and I will especially share your comments with the chef and servers. I apologize your experience was not up to par and we will work towards improvement and hope to see you in the future. - The Reef Management Team
I’ve never had such worse service in my life! I was seated after my reservation time which is fine, but after sitting there for 30 minutes without anyone acknowledging me I had to start waving my hand in the air and saying excuse me. I got a glass of champagne, but it took the waiter another 10 minutes to get to me. I ordered an Omelette since they were made to order and went to get some food from the buffets. The choices that they had were awful and the food just wasn’t good at all. I waited 50 minutes before flagging down my waiter and asking him where was my omelette. Never once did he come check on me to see how I was doing. He then dame back and told me that my omelette was delivered to another table, but that he’d get me one right away and to go eat the other food that is out there. During my entire time there he never l, ever came to ask me how I was doing or if everything was alright. The food was awful as well and they used to have a lot more options a few years ago! I’ll never go back there again!

We will be sharing with our entire team to make ourselves better, our greatest satisfaction is in your potential return. My family and I love eating at the reef during the holidays. The food is amazing and they have the friendliest staff.
Spectacular, magical, delicious; did I forget to mention DELICIOUS! And the service was top-notch, friendly, and totally accommodating. And I must not forget to mention Santa, the master of improv. He made us laugh, he made us cry, and in between he made us sigh! Love you Santa!
This was a great buffet for the Christmas holiday. The setup for food was thought out to prevent lines as the food is set up in the middle of one of the rooms. All the employees had smiles. Our waiter staff were very attentive and took care of any request. Our drinks were never empty and they even brought clean silverware with each refill. All the meats were cooked perfectly and there was a large selection of items ranging from American, Mexican, sushi, carving station, cold seafood station, kids and many dessert selections. They also had a made to order menu on the table included in the price.
We did not feel rushed to leave so that they could seat others. Due to the diligence of the employees who would probably rather be at home there were always clean plates and food station refills. The carvers made sure that you received whether you wanted an end piece or larger portion. Again all with a smile on their face and in the attitude. The staff could not have been nicer and more helpful.
All this plus a great view of the Long Beach harbor is great for those who would rather eat out on the holiday whether your group is large or small. Although it was crowded when we left it did not feel that way as it was easy to move around to the different food areas.
Our table was perfect. We were between the christmas tree and the buffet. Very roomy, delicious food. The staff did not rush us and the environment was relaxing and memorable.
The CALAMARI did not seem to have cooked long enough. I have never not eaten CALAMARI. The lobster was seasoned so much you could not taste the lobster. I had one bite. It took alot of pressure to cut my broccoli. Again I did not eat it.
My favorite, potatoes were so salty, again I did not finish. I took my left overs home and I did so just to ask my friends to try it. THEY agreed with us. I have NEVER sent back a meal and maybe We should have. It was a treat, and the experience cost me around $230.00. Will not return. First time shame on you, second time shame on me.
Christmas Eve Dinner
My sister and my husband ordered the salmon with broccoli. We were told the forbidden rice was unavailable so we opted out for the substitute. The meal was a bit salty, especially the broccoli.
Food is mediocre at best
Hi Aaron, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience with us. It seems our food was not up to standard during you visit and I appreciate your honesty, I will be sharing with the chef and we will work to improve our food quality. - The Reef Management Team
It was my wife’s birthday. We got a free cheesecake.
This was a long-time favorite. This experience left a lot to be desired! Taking a date there was quite embarrassing
Hi, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us at the Reef, it seems we fell short in your experience with us and we apologize for not making your experience perfect. I will be sharing with the team to improve ourselves and hope to see you again in the future. - The Reef Management Team
Great place for a Birthday dinner party. We were fortunate to have a table with a great view of the bay. Service was superb and food was excellent. With the Christmas season upon us, able to take some pics with the Christmas tree.
The knock on waterfront restaurants is that they trade on their location and let other things slide
Not so here at this longtime Restaurant and special event hot spot. Great food and drinks from its ever evolving menu. Great folks and wonderful interior ambiance as well. One of our top 10
Worst experience in more than 60 years of eating & celebrating at restaurants. While this restaurant has a long history & great memories, it apparently has changed management & is no longer maintaining the service, food or excellence of yesterday. If it continues down this disastrous road, it won’t be here much longer. R.I.P.
We had a party of 12 & an early 6:30 reservation, 6 individuals after having placed their orders were told at deferent times their ordered food items were not available. The waitress was rude & incompetent from the beginning. We had to bend to her rules & the customer was never right. She even argued & refused to delete ordered items on the check that were not provided. The food was inedible either from being way too salty or no taste or seasoning at all! How does a restaurant, which was quiet empty (now I know why) run out of 6 menu items before 7:30 pm?
The most disgusting thing was when the waitress brought out cut up salmon after having previously told the customer that she couldn’t have her ordered salmon because the last one had been dropped on the floor. She explained that the cut up one had been left over from a banquet! REALLY??? - it wasn’t eaten because who could be sure which explanation was true!
You’ve been warned & should avoid this mismanaged restaurant like the plague!
Not enough servers. Our server worked hard to keep up with the amount of tables he was serving. Two of our guests ordered Grouper Fish and had to return it. They said it was spoiled.
