The Red Oak Restaurant
Firmly rooted in southeastern Wisconsin, The Red Oak celebrates the richness of the area by crafting dishes and drinks from locally grown produce, humanely raised animals, and locally produced artisanal cheeses, beers and spirits.
A bit off the beaten path, this restaurant was a wonderful find! The ambiance was homey, festive, and truly welcoming. The menu changes regularly and features locally sourced ingredients, and they were combined perfectly in the seafood chowder and arugula, apple, and walnut salad I tried. Their cocktail menu was impressive, and their Winter Old Fashioned was delicious. My server and other members of the team were attentive and knowledgeable.
Another amazing meal here. The food was amazing and the service attentive. Truly a fun delicious time.
We went there last night and service was great from the start. Very friendly and all of the food arrived on time. The chef (Josh) even came out to introduce himself and give us a bit of history, as well as how they manage their menu. The pork chops were amazing, the roasted chicken and filet were awesome as well. All were cooked to perfection.
The mussel/sausage starter was very tasty as well.
The bar/restaurant were clean and even though the eating area is a somewhat large area, the ceiling had what appeared to be dampening panels; our party of 4 never had an issue hearing each other.
We will be back.
Red Oak had a great menu and the service level was exceptional! Will definitely be going back!
Red Oak is a 'living wage' establishment, meaning they automatically add 20% gratuity to your bill, which is shared with all employees. Prices are reasonable and the automatic 20% tip was not a problem for us since the service team we experienced left us smiling and satisfied. Great service from the Hostess that greeted us, to Lottie the Bartender that served us a fabulous holiday rosemary infused old fashion, to Holly our competent and friendly server, to Heidi the Manager! The menu was complete with something for every palate. Would highly recommend The Red Oak Restaurant!
Very nice time! Would like to come back again for dinner and try their brunch.
Great people and food
I recommend the Red Oak...the food was prepared to look, smell and taste great. The rural location was a plus for me (easy parking, country view, farm to table, locally sourced).
Surprisingly excellent food, appropriate portions and superb service. A well stocked bar with wide variety of uncommon alcohol and interesting drink menu. A truly hidden gem.
Sometimes it’s nice to step outside the box and enjoy well prepared food and fantastic service.
This was our first experience with the new and improved Red Oak Restaurant. We were greeted promptly and pleasantly - and it only got better from there! Our server (Mike) was really friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. He kept our drinks refreshed and checked back often to make sure we were ok. Our food was outstanding! We will definitely recommend this restaurant and are looking forward to returning to taste more of their delicious food!
Normally in Wisconsin, a restaurant in the middle of the country is going to be bar/pub fare. Not this place! Pleasantly surprised and will go back. Food tasted great. New foodie find in southern WI - more are popping up! Genuine farm to fork - hospitable service!
Great food and service to match. Love this place!!
Wonderfully creative and delicious food and great farm to table concept. Greatly enjoyed ourselves
Our favorite brunch place! We'll be back! The pumpkin pancakes were stellar!
Sustainable food and fair gratuity policies apply. The fish, veggies and desert were very good. Excellent wait service.
I love to go to the Red Oak every time I visit my parents. I believe the first time I found out about the restaurant was a year and a half ago when my wife and I were visiting from Nashville, TN. We all loved it and since then my parents take other people who visit them to Red Oak and everyone who has gone loved the atmosphere, food, and service. It will always be the restaurant to go to when visiting.
Red Oak has quickly become our #1 favorite place to go when we want the absolute best dining experience in the area. We love going at least once (and preferably more) for each new season’s menu. The staff, the service and the incredible food and drinks get five stars from us at every visit, without fail.
Met a long time friend here for a much needed catch up. Had a wonderful dinner over a 2 1\2 hour time period. No pressure to eat and get out. Food was delicious and service was terrific. Already recommended it to others.
The food here was local and amazing. Prepared properly and well seasoned. The service is to match with friendly, welcoming staff. This is a must visit.
Excellent farm to table cuisine.
Great food! Service was ok a bit slow. Overall good experience and I will return.
We can’t say enough about the red oak - food amazing, staff fantastic, atmosphere fun and overall a great go to for us - especially the pumpkin martinis this time of the year! Love love!
The food is always good, the cocktails delicious and the wait staff pleasant. So glad to have such a high quality place so near to home!
My husband and I tried Red Oak for the first time as a belated anniversary dinner. We enjoyed the atmosphere and strong local connections the restaurant makes with community growers and businesses. We look forward to coming back again and experiencing the different seasonal menu they change every two months.
Energetic and professional people with a passion for the business. While having a relaxed casual feel The Red Oak is by far the most most innovative restaurant in the county. Menu is well balanced and food is creative, very well presented and more importantly cooked to perfection to bring out the most in the locally sourced fresh ingredients. Very good Chefs using very good ingredients . The bar with plenty of room for pre dinner guests offers amazing cocktails created by true pros who love their art. Great selection of wines, spirits and beers.
We absolutely love this restaurant!
This restaurant tries hard to be a high-end restaurant and at times comes pretty close to achieving that. Overall the food was quite good. I'm not a big fan of how the "livable Wage" concept is handled. I rarely tip less than 20% but adding a line item for this is just a way of being forced to provide a 20% tip. Seems to me that a servers incentive to provide outstanding service is diminished by this practice. In this case, I might actually have left less.
We were the only people in the restaurant at the start of the evening, and we made it clear that we weren't in any hurry to get in and out. So I was pretty astonished when our server brought our brussel sprouts and goat cheese appetizer out and said "our chef accidentally made it with pine nuts instead of walnuts." Not wanting to raise a stink we decided to accept it "as is." I would have thought remaking it without admitting a mistake would have been the route to go. At a minimum take it off the bill or give us a free dessert. BTW, what is the obsession with the brussel sprouts? If I would have know that the majority of entrees came with them I would have ordered a different appetizer. Overall, they were excellent, although the pine nuts did seem a little out of place.
I also was excited to see a Siduri Pinot Noir from CA on the wine list. I usually only have the Oregon Pinot from Siduri so it was nice to try something different and unexpected. The only problem is it was actually from Oregon and placed in the wrong section of the menu. Mistakes happen, it was just disappointing. My girlfriends first wine was undrinkable, but not knowing the wine it wouldn't be fair to point a finger. Her follow up wine, which we were familiar with, was excellent.
The food was quite good. I had the tenderloin and thought it was prepared and presented nicely. No complaints. My girlfriend had the Char and it was ok. Nothing to complain about, just wouldn't order again. Desserts were good, not special.
Will go again.
The food was excellent and perfect.
The chairs began to hurt after 10 minutes
The waitress was good except she repeated what was on the front page of the menu, followed by a different waitress doing the same thing after I got done reading the front page on the menu and I had read that online before we arrived. The same speech 4X was unnecessary.
The noise was unacceptable even though the place wasn't even full.
The dessert we took home to eat the next day was $8 and only about three spoon fulls.
The Old Fashioned drink was perfect.
There should be more vegetarian meals ON THE MENU.
Wonderful food. Great experience in tastes! We always go on special occasions. Love the menu and we are always eager to try their newest desserts and dinners.
This was our first time and we really loved it. We try to support local biz with similar values and love the entire concept of the way they conduct their business. Wish we had found it sooner.
The new fall menu is great. It was really loud on Saturday nite but fun. Ambiance would really be improved if the yellow paint was changed to a warmer color and something done to absorb the noise.
Great food awesome drinks and excellent service!
What a find! Wasn’t sure what to think as it kind of looks like a house. Server was great. Explained their farm to table concept and the no tipping policy - they add 20% onto bill automatically and it’s dispersed so that all employees get a fair share and a living wage. The grass fed burger was outstanding. Juicy and flavorful. Double cooked fries were great. Cocktails excellent - you can tell they were handcrafted. I had the spicy Bloody Mary - highly recommend. Only down point was the calamari appetizer was chewy and lacked flavor. I will be back again
Amazingly tasty food with wonderful service. This is a very special place.
Nice place for good food and healthy meals.
We met friends for a birthday dinner. We had a great dinner! The food was excellent! Two of us had the filet and it was excellent and two of us had the pork tenderloin and it was really good, too. Loved that it is spacious so the neighboring table is not on top of you! Great experience overall, we’ll definitely go back soon!
Always a great experience! Our favorite spot!
We went to the Red Oak to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It was a busy Friday night and the noise level was high. Our waiter was very good even though he was very busy. We started with bruschetta, which was very good, my husband had pan seared walleye & I didn’t want to have the same thing so I ordered the deep fried walleye. It was pretty greasy but his pan seared was excellent. Even though we mentioned our anniversary in our online reservation, no mention was made of it.
We like the farm to table idea and locally sourced food so we want Red Oak to succeed. We’d suggest putting more sound absorbing materials in the dining area to make conversation easier.
Great food and service!!
