The Red Lion is a thatched stone building that sits in the picturesque village of Yardley Hastings, southeast of Northampton and close to the border with both Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It’s an affluent area with several estates nearby, including Caste Ashby.

Now under new ownership, this upmarket pub has a classic country feel about it with a modern twist. It’s also a destination food venue offering higher-end cuisine at an affordable price.

The Red Lion is open for lunch and dinner every day and you can eat in the restaurant or bar area – or al fresco in spring and summer.

    This is my third visit to The Red Lion, all at lunchtime. The pub was busy with a large group but the layout was configured so that they were slightly separated from us. The ambience is lovely, the staff friendly and the service good. The menu, using locally sourced produce where possible, is changed every month and is interesting but not too ambitious.

    We had a predinner drink and our starter was on the table with the wine ready for us, the food was delicious albeit small portions and the Christmas pudding was underpar but the ambience was lovely and the wine delicious will certainly be going again

    We love this pub. Excellent food, service and ambience. We have decided to do date night here once a month. Nathan and Dave are amazing hosts and always make you feel welcome and appreciated. Keep doing what your doing we love it.

    Very welcoming staff and great food and drink. Lovely stylish decor. Slight mix up with the bill quickly resolved. Look forward to going back soon.

    Excellent meal. We chose 2 of the boards. They were massive, we could have easily shared one. Lots of sea food and prawns. Excellent value. Will definitely return

    Myself and a friend attended afternoon tea at the Red Lion . The staff were lovely and friendly and very welcoming . We sat on a table in the restaurant, the afternoon tea was presented in a lovely way and tasted as good as it looked . We was able to take home the food we couldn’t manage to eat , which was a great touch . Very good value for money in a very cosy setting Will definitely be visiting again

    Arrived for a late booking for Sunday Lunch. Please wait we need to clear a table so we sat in the bar surrounded by uncleared tables. Clearly understaffed. Menu only had two choices of roast- beef and chicken. Beef was sold out. So two chicken then! when order was taken 20 mins later. Taken to table. Not asked throughout meal if we wanted further drinks. Envious of the earlier customers who were being given beef with a large individual Yorkshire. Meals served, No Yorkshire. When asked the server said he'd fetch some. A long time later a dish arrived with 4 overcooked individual Yorkshires. Are these Aunt Bessie's? Embarrassed smile. The roast chicken was really dry ( overcooked). Declined a dessert, paid and left. Not once did the server ask if all was OK. I think he knew.
