The "team approach" to table service was a bit disjointed. Uncomfortable.
Would prefer a dedicated server which has always been a Red Lion tradition.
Food was perfect.

I was disappointed to see the they are not getting the basics right. The prime rib was not a great cut, and most importantly it was covered in a thickened gravy, not au jus. It tasted like diner roast beef. The green beans and mashed potatoes were also under seasoned and the portion stingy. The bottom of the popover was soaked in grease. This was my favorite dish at the Red Lion, and I was sorely disappointed.
A small group of us ate in all 3 restaurants at the Red Lion Inn and we’re delighted with the food, service and ambiance in each.

My husband and I went to the Red Lion Inn during our first trip to the Berkshires. We came here based on online and personal recommendations. I think that this place would be considered really nice by many people but it was just not my taste. Very old and a bit kitchy. I kind of expected this but then hoped the food would stand out but it was just okay. Mussels had a great broth but each mussel had a hard chewy part that I had to pull out of my mouth each time. The lamb-risotto appetizer was good. The Caesar salad was ok. The prime rib was not tender. The spice cake dessert was good. The server was nice and gave adequate service but had to ask for water refills. The most surprising aspect of this dinner (and not in a good way) was the amount of children running around the restaurant. Some were sitting with their families eating but others were going from the lobby through the restaurant in oddly large numbers. Having children running by in their pajamas while I'm having a conversation with the sommelier about which bottle of wine to order do not go hand in hand!
Brought our friends here for their first visit to the Berkshires. As usual the Red Lion made a great impression. Service was spot on, food was excellent (it impressed even our NYC foodie friends) and overall was just a very lovely experience. We had a wonderful, relaxing evening and will certainly recommend to anyone.
Beautiful dining room with excellent service and creative dishes. There are a few staples on the menu like turkey dinner or prime rib (in case you’re not adventurous). Great getaway for couples or family with impeccable service.

The food and service were both excellent. Beautiful, historic restaurant with a interesting history that they recap on their menu. Will definitely dine hear again.

Great atmosphere. However the waiters where coming and going. Had 4 different people to deal with. Then at the end they forgot us.Food did not live up to the value. Way overpriced.Both wife and I left disappointed. Beer/wine ,soup and bread was top notch.Went down hill after that.
The Red Lion Inn never disappoints. The food is always excellent and the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. It is a view into a bygone era when going out for dinner was an experience.
The food was wonderful from the clam chowder to the entrees to the deserts. And the noise level was low enough to easily enjoy a conversation across the table. The service was attentive and personable as always.
Ate at The Red Lion to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We come here almost every year for that occasion. Service is always excellent. Servers are very knowledgeable about the food preparation. I had seared Arctic char and my wife had scallops. Both were cooked perfectly. My only complaint is that the menu is very limited. I am not saying they should have a diner menu, but they really need to have more than 4 or 5 entrees. A pasta option would be nice for a change. The menu hasn’t really changed in years. Now that they have a new chef, perhaps it will change. Prices are high, but I consider this a “special occasion” restaurant. The ambiance is excellent for a certain diner. It is a 1700-1800s era inn. You will not be surrounded by modernity. It is, however, very romantic.
The service was very slow at diner and at breakfast. While the food in general was good, I had ordered the scallops and they were overcooked and very chewy. For the cost of the meal I would have expected it to be perfectly done. Breakfast was very good and worth the cost.

We had a delightful lunch in the main dining room, seated by the window. So glad we made a reservation as it was crowded on a Friday. Food was spectacular except for the apple pie, the crust was rubbery. We both loved the butternut squash soup. Soup with a sandwich for one and a delicious salad with salmon for the other on a cold day was perfect. Service was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the Christmas decorations inside the dining room and outside our window. The food is expensive, the ambiance is lovely.
The Sunday brunches are just outstanding in selection and quality of food. Holiday brunches are especially grand. Highly recommended.
The food was very delicious, with a very good size portion. I had the hamburger and really enjoyed it. Some of the best New England clam chowder I have ever had

Got snowed out for out Christmas day plans, and decided to try Red Lion Inn the next day. It was very festive and really right for what we were looking for. The server we had was very good ad made us feel really welcome. The menu had good choices and both of us really liked what we ordered. It was the perfect spot for a Christmas lunch. Will definitely remember and come again.
They were very accommodating when we needed to change our Christmas Eve dinner from 2 to 4 people. We ended up in a private dining room. The food was great, our server fantastic and we had an overall great experience.
The menu and food are simply classic earlier American fare. There is no attempt to concoct a "different" take on standard recipes, which is refreshing nowadays. Service is excellent and relatively fast. Ambiance is outstanding, even though Christmas Eve day was very crowded. My wife and I love the Red Lion Inn and come here at least once a year (over an hour drive). It is the epitome of good food prepared well and served well in a historic and well-maintained inn. I might also mention that the turkey dinner never disappoints.
Honestly, we were very disappointed and will need to break the tradition of dining at The Red Lion Inn each Christmas Eve day. First, waiting to be seated at noon, it got very crowded in the entrance area. Second, we were seated at the second round table, which was cold and drafty. We were not given bread until we asked for it. Next, and worst of all, none of us was happy with the food. The quality was not good, the Quiche tasted odd and it was not hot and creamy as it usually is. The side salad was too drenched in dressing and the chicken pot pie was cold We were very disappointed as usually it is quite a treat to eat there. Normally we have had a wonderful, special occasion/tradition. Unfortunately we will be booking somewhere else next year.

Soak in the history! This authentic 1773 coaching inn is in the center of Stockbridge's Main Street. The main dining room is cheery. Traditional dishes are ably prepared. There is a well stocked wine cellar. The friendly and skilled wait staff will keep you comfortable. No surprises on the menu, but it is a great place to linger on a cold winter day. Clam Chowder, Chicken Pot Pie, Beer Battered Haddock, Pot Roast-you get the picture. Oldies and goodies enhanced by carefully sourced local ingredients.
Especially enjoyed the beautiful holiday decorations.
This is a yearly get together. The Inn and the town are always a destination, but the charm and warmth of the holiday season make it even more special.
Romantic and lovely time for dinner
We ordered the prime rib , it was tough and had been heated in a microwave. I have never paid that much money for a meal that was by far one of the worst I have eaten. The objective is to serve quickly and not be concerned with quality. My wife and I were extremely disappointed and put a damper on the evening.
Beautiful setting, excellent cuisine and attentive staff. Loved every moment of it.
the Inn is beautiful, historic, quaint, and was fabulously decorated for the holidays . they had a harpist in the lounge! The food did not all live up to its billing. the pasta was bland and the pork had a sauce on top that clashed with the root veggies under. Excellent desserts.
I’m afraid that this longstanding New England gem, is in need of some updating. The beautiful antiques need some TLC. Rugs and curtains look a bit weather beaten. We shared a salmon risotto app which was absolutely delicious. We both got prime rib, which unfortunately was quite bland. Lots of salt/pepper required. The sides were served at room temp which was disappointing. The saddest part was that I had requested a surprise birthday dessert for my husband, and despite my “eye contact” with the waiter when he inquired about dessert, it did not come. They forgot it.
