The Red Lion was in fine form for the holidays yesterday. The service, food and ambiance were outstanding. The new chef and able team have brought the dinning experience to a great level.

Excellent lunch! The traditional turkey sandwich couldn't have been more delicious. They were clearly short staffed as most places these days but the server was friendly, energetic and was working very had to accommodate guests. Nothing beats the Red Lion ambiance at Christmas time! We have happily dined here again and again over the years and will continue to do so!

The venue was nice and looked pretty decorated for Christmas. It was awesome to see such an iconic place in person. However, the restaurant was understaffed and unorganized. We were seated in the Tavern where customers crowded in around our table trying to get a cocktail from the lone bartender at the bar in the same room. Servers carried overloaded trays of dirty dishes over our heads. We were finally able to flag down the hostess to move us to another table in the Tavern. Dinner service took a long time and although delicious, portions were small. I would say that this was a "one and done" experience for me.

Disappointing- food was tepid and lackluster in flavor , but the waitress was so poor she is the main reason for the bad review. A beautiful Inn that I hoped would impress my guests wanting a classic New England experience , but it missed the mark unfortunately. The carolers in the courtyard made up for the poor service snd meal a little.

We really enjoyed our evening at the Red Lion Main Dining Room. It was decorated for Christmas and very cheerful. Our server went above and beyond and got us something that wasn't on the menu. I had the mussels and they were delicious and enough for an entree even though they were on the appetizer menu.

I love the Red Lion Inn. It is so nostalgic, appearing the same after all these years. I wonder if it might attract a younger crowd if the dining room was modernized a bit. The wall paper, gold mirrors and display of pots and tureens are reminiscent of days gone by, but they are just that - days gone by. I imagine there is a way to upgrade without losing the character of the Inn.

This dining experience was quite lovely. The service staff were fantastic. The food was very good, and the inn and dining room are so beautiful. If you have a chance to go during the holidays be sure to look at the amazing gingerbread house! A masterpiece. My only complaint is that no one was tending the fire in the big fireplace in the entry room. It was Smokey and smelled Smokey. Once in the dining room we couldn’t even notice it.

The main dining room is a pretty room, to be sure, but it's getting a little threadbare. The service is friendly and efficient and they do their best to provide a nice experience, and the food is GOOD, but nothing special. We've always liked the turkey dinner and now we realize that it's little more than good diner food. I had the special venison, and it was overcooked. Desserts were tasty and homemade.

As with the rest of the place, they're simply resting on their laurels. Whatever magic there once was is simply gone. I will say that the breakfast we had the following morning was very good - I can recommend the corned beef hash with poached eggs and the homemade bread. But overall, I don't consider this a "destination" dining experience worth making.

You have really limited your menu in my opinion. It would be nice if you added back the 1/2 soup and 1/2 sandwich. I am not a fan of the smash burger. I preferred your old style burger. A salmon burger would be a nice option as well. I also preferred your old style Bloody Mary glasses. I am finding a lack of consistency with the bloody Marys in term of garnish and spice level. I have been coming to the Red Lion Inn since 1972, long time fan, not as big of fan of your new menu. Also, no more history of the RLI on the back of the menu? And the paper place mats?

The only negative was the many small children in the main dining room, which is a difficult space in which to try to manage a small child. My husband and I look forward to a quiet, intimate dinner at the RLI for our anniversary every year, and this year was a bit challenging due to this issue. We could eat later and hopefully avoid this, but we are also getting older and live over an hour away, so that's tough. I don't know how to solve this as I would not want to be anything but inclusive; I just wish parents made better decisions about what is a manageable and thoughtful dining choice when you have small children.

The lobby and restaurant were vastly overcrowded. The Inn took on more than it could properly handle. Used glasses were everywhere in the lobby. Far too many people for a safe environment.

My husband and I came to treat our daughter and son-in-law, their first time visiting RLI. We arrived two hours earlier than our reservation and had drinks in the bar. We let the maître d’ know we were early and she was able to seat us right away, much to our delight. Our server was terrific and friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, as always! Will be back to RLI once again very soon, I’m sure.

Food was excellent, we started with clam chowder and the charcuterie board, then I got the shrimp and my fiancé got the prime rib. Very pleased with all of the food. The service was a little slow but they were very busy and it was Saturday night so it did not bother us much. Menu was a little pricey but we knew that coming in, it's definitely a nicer celebratory dinner or date night kind of place. The ambiance is nice, it's a very cute and quaint place.

Excellent food in historic venue. 3 diners, 3 different meals, each of us saying very well maybe the best meal ever eaten at a restaurant. Staff is well trained and courteous able to advise and suggest on the menu and wine list. Enjoyed the casual and relaxed atmosphere. Had a sit by the fire in the front room and finished the last wine of the night out on the rocking porch. Didn't stay at the inn, so plans are in the works for a return trip!

Food was delicious. But, we were served our chicken pot pies literally 4 minutes after we ordered. Didn’t even have time to relax and chat. Very strange. Also they don’t serve their delicious rolls unless you ask for them. Wondering why we didn’t get any. The server should have asked if we wanted some. Felt very rushed.

Have been coming here since the 1960’s when I was a child. They are well known for their turkey sandwich. They recently changed it. It seems much smaller and no longer contains stuffing. Not nearly as good. Please bring back the original.

Lia was an amazing and attentive waitress! The fries were delicious. The salmon was okay but the butternut squash and quinoa was outstanding, so I would order it again. Friend got the french dip and loved it. Saw other people nearby that had the fish and chips, Cesar salad and clam chowder and those looked outstanding. It did get pretty packed in the dining room for lunch after 1pm and there were a lot of people waiting and hanging out inside and on the deck.
