You have really limited your menu in my opinion. It would be nice if you added back the 1/2 soup and 1/2 sandwich. I am not a fan of the smash burger. I preferred your old style burger. A salmon burger would be a nice option as well. I also preferred your old style Bloody Mary glasses. I am finding a lack of consistency with the bloody Marys in term of garnish and spice level. I have been coming to the Red Lion Inn since 1972, long time fan, not as big of fan of your new menu. Also, no more history of the RLI on the back of the menu? And the paper place mats?
The only negative was the many small children in the main dining room, which is a difficult space in which to try to manage a small child. My husband and I look forward to a quiet, intimate dinner at the RLI for our anniversary every year, and this year was a bit challenging due to this issue. We could eat later and hopefully avoid this, but we are also getting older and live over an hour away, so that's tough. I don't know how to solve this as I would not want to be anything but inclusive; I just wish parents made better decisions about what is a manageable and thoughtful dining choice when you have small children.
We had an excellent meal. Extremely pleasant waiter. Wine, appetizer, and dessert also excellent.
Very disappointed..poor service ...very unclean...I know it's been fifty years since I have been here but what a difference....I couldn't believe how they let the place go!
Reservation was honored timely. Service very good. Food was tasty, hot and plentiful. Overall, nice time.
Adam was an excellent waiter and the food was as good as always!! Keep up the great work
The lobby and restaurant were vastly overcrowded. The Inn took on more than it could properly handle. Used glasses were everywhere in the lobby. Far too many people for a safe environment.
It's a meal with a wonderful experience. May waitress was a delight.
My husband and I came to treat our daughter and son-in-law, their first time visiting RLI. We arrived two hours earlier than our reservation and had drinks in the bar. We let the maître d’ know we were early and she was able to seat us right away, much to our delight. Our server was terrific and friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, as always! Will be back to RLI once again very soon, I’m sure.
Each visit to the Red Lion brings a great experience. The location, the building, the people and of course the food is thoroughly enjoyable. We look forward to our next visit.
I didn’t have high expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was outstanding.
Food was excellent, we started with clam chowder and the charcuterie board, then I got the shrimp and my fiancé got the prime rib. Very pleased with all of the food. The service was a little slow but they were very busy and it was Saturday night so it did not bother us much. Menu was a little pricey but we knew that coming in, it's definitely a nicer celebratory dinner or date night kind of place. The ambiance is nice, it's a very cute and quaint place.
Excellent food in historic venue. 3 diners, 3 different meals, each of us saying very well maybe the best meal ever eaten at a restaurant. Staff is well trained and courteous able to advise and suggest on the menu and wine list. Enjoyed the casual and relaxed atmosphere. Had a sit by the fire in the front room and finished the last wine of the night out on the rocking porch. Didn't stay at the inn, so plans are in the works for a return trip!
The food was well prepared; tasty, good quality, nice presentation. Wait staff was attentive and efficient. Lovely fall day was the backdrop, making the experience memorable.
Food was delicious. But, we were served our chicken pot pies literally 4 minutes after we ordered. Didn’t even have time to relax and chat. Very strange. Also they don’t serve their delicious rolls unless you ask for them. Wondering why we didn’t get any. The server should have asked if we wanted some. Felt very rushed.
The ambience was as expected. Our Server was extremely helpful and friendly. The food was pretty good, A little bit over seasoned with salt And the squash soup was a strange consistency. The Brown sugar cake was perfect for dessert with a cup of coffee.
Wonderful server. Attentive, but not hovering.
Red Lion is one of my favorite places for a nice lunch.
Have been coming here since the 1960’s when I was a child. They are well known for their turkey sandwich. They recently changed it. It seems much smaller and no longer contains stuffing. Not nearly as good. Please bring back the original.
When I visit the Berkshires, I always dine at the Red Lion Inn! I always recommend it to my friends!
Lovely historic site! Pleasantly surprised with a pop-up oyster bar upon arrival. Service was generally good, although the server neglected to bring bread to the table. Fried haddock was delicious! Overall great experience.
Lia was an amazing and attentive waitress! The fries were delicious. The salmon was okay but the butternut squash and quinoa was outstanding, so I would order it again. Friend got the french dip and loved it. Saw other people nearby that had the fish and chips, Cesar salad and clam chowder and those looked outstanding. It did get pretty packed in the dining room for lunch after 1pm and there were a lot of people waiting and hanging out inside and on the deck.
Excellent food and service. This restaurant is a real neighborhood gem
Lovely classic old-style New England restaurant and menu. Three luncheon guests ordered chicken pot pie, carrot cake and raspberry lemon cake. Dessert portions HUGE.... Pot pie very good. Attentive waitress. Recommend for a casual and pleasant lunch.
Very pretty and romantic. Food was very good.
Had birthday lunch with my son. He loved the place and his meal.
Our server, Matt, did very well with our requests. He was very friendly and attentive. Both parties enjoyed delicious prime rib touched on the grill. The mussels in cream sauce were some of the best we have ever ordered.
Restaurant desperately needs upgrading. Slow service. Brought expensive glass of white burgundy in a filthy glass. Understaffed. Idea of a burger was 2 smallish patties in a bun! Chicken paillard was good.
My wife and I dined with two friends who have been neither in Stockbridge before nor The Red Lion. I believe both of them were disappointed by the experience based on my build up of the inn to them.
It was a busy Sunday noon. We had reservations and were seated near the entrance to the bar section, which I didn't initially feel would be problematic, but the traffic became non stop and somewhat distracting. We were settled in with drinks and food by the time it became annoying, so moving wasn't an option for us. There were other tables for four available when we arrived further back in the restaurant, and tables for four remained available throughout our stay. Perhaps it's time for the hostess to make this the LAST table to seat guests at.
The wait for cocktails was long and they were dropped off only minutes before the food arrived at the table. Our meals were good and reasonably well prepared, but all were uninspired and underwhelming. The price of the meals was by no means excessive, but probably more justified by them being served in the Red Lion, than by the actual quality of the meals themselves.
Our waiter was lackadaisical and mostly indifferent to our presence. I believe there is a time limit for dining, but before we had even used half of it he was trying to clear the table. I had finished neither my salad nor soup, but he tried to clear my salad while I was still clearly eating. While he attended other tables regularly to replenish water and coffee, we were nearly done before he did so with our table.
Upon leaving, I realized someone was crossing my path and looked up to see our waiter averting his eyes. He made no attempt to say goodbye or thank us for dining there.
Some successful and desired establishments can become pretentious over time and take themselves too seriously. Others, equally noted and patronized, still manage to be welcoming and appreciative of one's presence.
There are other restaurants in Stockbridge.
Disappointing. We used to love the Red Lion Inn. It’s expensive… but you know that going in. What has changed is the quality and amount of food. You used to be able to get mashed potatoes and string beans with the prime rib, now you have to choose only 1. Last few times the warm brown sugar cake was burnt to a crisp, this most recent time it wasn’t burnt, but the caramel was dried up. Server was fine- but they often are not friendly. They like to rush you right when you sit… and get annoyed when you want to take your time enjoying the dinner and time. If you are a couple, make sure not to sit at a table next to where they dump the used plates and glasses or where they pour the wine.. very loud. You can ask to change seats.. but have to try and get through the eye rolls! Worth it for what you pay. There is so much potential.. they need to go back to what it once was.
Beautiful hotel, and usually good food. We come up to the Berkshires often, and this spot is usually dependable. The service was good, but the food, aside from the delicious cocktails, was very average. The sandwich I ordered, a French dip, was way too soggy, and I could barely pick up to eat. My husband’s Chicken Paillard was very dry and lacked flavor. Overall, my son’s turkey sandwich was good. For the price that we paid for lunch, we expected a much more enjoyable dining experience. We do love the atmosphere, and we will come back to try again. I hope this experience was an anomaly and not the beginning of a slow decline.
Flawless service. The menu is well-known and the staple for the restaurant's excellence. I think that there would be a rebellion if they changed it! Three words: Chicken Pot Pie!
Soup was very good. Sandwich ok. Waiter seemed spread out considerably, but did a good job. Still a good experience
Had a nice lunch here with my mother
Birthday celebration for Dinner with my Wife.
Warm bread Lovely service. Fresh beet salad. Tasty prime rib. Chocolate cake. Red Lion Draft.
Would recommend for any occasion.
great atmosphere, mediocre food. you’re paying for the experience, not the meal. worth coming once but i wouldn’t come again. the burger was half cold because the plate was cold, though the clam chowder was delicious. coffee was above average considering the usual drip
Great atmosphere and history. Steak was great too. They didn’t have our table ready 15 mins after our reservation. Offered us a seat in pub. Service was ok but not cheerful or overly attentive. They ran out of prime rib so we were disappointed by that, my popover never showed up with my meal. All in all it was a great spot and the issues we had are probably similar to any restaurant struggling to get help and meet customer demand.
We love dining at the Red Lion Inn, but found it a bit pricey for lunch. Our waiter, Matt, did a terrific job.
The food was delicious, but costly for what we had.
I love the feel of the old Inn with all of its tea pots etc. We were a bit disappointed with the gift shop.
Great food and atmosphere. Loved the entire experience.
