The atmosphere is lovely. I love sitting in an old tavern/inn and feeling very New England! The food was mediocre, definitely not bad, but not what I expected for a very well established restaurant. I think people definitely pay for the experience/atmosphere.
The experience is all about the ambience although the food was fabulous also.
What a wonderful experience at the Red Lion! Our server Darlene was attentive and friendly as soon as we were seated. She made excellent recommendations. My husband had the turkey dinner and I had the halibut. Both meals were perfect. I especially loved the corn served with the halibut. The RL is such an historic place with amazing ambiance and tradition. We truly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend!
Great location for lunch on a summer's day in the Berkshire.
Jon, our waiter, provided wonderful service. Very good meal. Easy to relax and enjoy our dinner.
This had been a must do while in the Berkshires and it was really disappointing. Our waiter never did get all we ordered to us. Won’t be back.
Superb food quality. Ingredients, presentation, and flavors cooked perfectly. some issues with service, asking for things 2 and 3 times ... server seemed a bit distracted, but recognized it and apologized to us without us saying anything. she was very pleasant and friendly. atmosphere is perfect. cozy New England style, so much history, with an intriguing collection of teapots on shelves surrounding the rooms.
We visit at least once a year and always enjoy the food service and ambiance!! Keep up the great work
Table service very slow. Food was tasty although overpriced.
We had a lovely meal and very fun timr
The food flavor was quite good, but the temperature was lukewarm at best. The service was quite slow, our server disappeared for long intervals without checking in, and was not friendly at all. Some of the slowness might be attributable to the kitchen, but our server should have kept us updated. The dining room was not crowded, and it seemed like there were other servers around. Overall quite puzzling.
Service and food were excellent. Highly recommend.
We had a delightful lunch; my Caesar salad was perfect but my friend's turkey sandwich was dry and untasty. The service was superb. We looked forward to our lunch together and had a very pleasant time. The atmosphere in the restaurant was serene. Thank you for your hospitality!
Just wonderful! It was everything and more I thought it would be. I can now check this lunch off my bucket list.
It’s an iconic place. Food has gotten much better over the years.
Very nice atmosphere good selection of food and drinks. Waiter was very good at coming back and asking if everything was OK. Only a couple of things that they could have done better. 1Had to request rolls instead of them being automatically brought to the table. 2 it was cold for July 4th and my wife had a sweater on and when we asked to change to another spot. We were told told it was reserved.
It’s a beautiful place. Service was great.
We had a great evening.
The food was at best mediocre. Roasted chicken was bland and skin not crisp. Way overpriced for what it was.
I was very disappointed in the appetizer and entree selections. Seemed very limited. What we ordered good overall. However in thus day and age it seems out of step to offer only one vegetarian entree and have it be a pasta dish. Even a historical inn Nd abs should offer more a more current menu.
Overall good but food was disappointing. Meat loaf used to be great?! Now bland with very heavy gravy. Chicken ok not great. Ice tea terrible. Great ambiance. Still love the Red Lion. Have been going there for over 30 years and will continue. Please make the food better. Thanks
My best friend brought my husband and me to the red lion inn for lunch. We had a lovely time. The food was fantastic- we had French dip, fish and chips, and salmon. Service impeccable. It’s wonderful! Not to be missed. Lots of history. Like a step back in time.
Prime rib dinner was fabulous. Enough to share with our whole table of four. Expensive, but delicious.
The food and the outdoor patio were great on a beautiful summer evening.
I have eaten at the Red Lion Inn many times. Have taken my six grandchildren to Red Lion Inn when visiting Norman Rockwell Museum. All enjoyed the experience at Red Lion Inn. I highly recommend dining here whether a romantic dinner or family occasion.
Anniversary celebration with friends
Nice, comfortable food was very good. Limited Menu was only negative. Waitress was nice, but forgot a few things. Not a big deal but asking for review.
One of my favorite places. Filled with happy memories.
Charming welcoming staff.
Lovely character of this wonderful old inn keeps us coming back again and again.
First time going for dinner at the Red Lion Inn. First dinner out since the pandemic began and this was for our anniversary. We’ve been for an outside dining lunch once before and that was ok. Hoping this outing would be better than ’ok’. First thing the pricing is way too expensive for what you get. The menu is typical Americana cuisine, not saying that’s bad….Steak, Salmon, Chicken, etc…but not a lot of options to choose from. I got the NY Strip steak and that was almost $50….I’m sorry but that is crazy. The food was just ‘ok’. Probably won’t be going back.
Regional classic back in fine form maintaining superior service. Menu reduced, prices pipped.
The dining room is a charming space and service was excellent. There was a good selection of wines and great cocktails. .
The prime rib and salmon dishes were both good as was the burrata salad and carrot cake. The clam chowder wasn't very distinctive and the popover that came with the prime rib was overcooked.
Overall, a great dining experience.
The turkey dinner is great. All the enjoyment and none of the work.
First, the positive. Beautiful and historic Inn. Open before the Revolution. We were seated quickly and on time with a reservation. Service was attentive and quick. A nice socially distanced table where we could see Main St. There was live music at a pleasant volume level.
Food was good. Just VERY expensive. NE clam chowder was good (better be in Massachusetts) but a small cup was $10.
Classic an elegant historic inn that has a wonderful place in history as the hangout for Norman Rockwell. Lovely decorations abound. Favorite place for turkey and chicken pot pie in the Berkshires. Lounging in the rocking chairs in the porch is a favorite past time.
It was good to be back at the Red Lion after more than a year and half due to COVID. I hope the old Inn is able to ramp back-up to its usual charm and comfort. It sure looked promising this week.
We have eaten at the Red Lion Inn several times over many years, but noticed a definite change. The prime rib and salmon were delicious. However, the salmon portion would not have been enough for most of my family members which included a very small piece of salmon, 4 small pieces of roasted potatoes, 5 small pieces of carrot and one small stalk of broccolini. We realize that many things changed over the last year with Covid restrictions, but had hoped for a great experience which we did not receive. There was only one waiter on the porch taking drink orders prior to dinner and he was run ragged. I do not think we will return and that makes us sad.
Very loud...we were seated at the only table for two in the same room as the bar. People were coming in from outside to order drinks...waiters were constantly passing by our table. If you reserve to sit in the bar/tavern area, ask to be seated in the room off of the bar.
An excellent birthday lunch -- food was great; the service was also great. We had a lovely lunch. We commented on and liked the fact that there were fewer tables, thus less noise and more of a "safe distance" between tables. All the service people also wore masks.
Thank you for your adherence to pandemic guidelines.
We love the Red Lion inn. Great old New England character and charm . Our meals over all were very good. A bit pricey , I think $28 for a pasta entree Witt out protein ( optional for additional charge) pricing is out of line with other comparable restaurants pasta dishes. And at this time of year , spring, would have been better to use sundried tomatoes as opposed to the pale red orange blah winter tomato that was used. Other than that it was tasty and cooked well. And we had a wonderful time
One of our favorite places to visit. Lovely experience as always
