For years we have wanted to stop and eat at the Red Lion but our travel plans have not permitted. This time it worked out and Sadly, our lowest expectations were not met. Wrinkled and worn linen tablecloths thrown on the tables, with dead fresh flowers as decor. Our server was overly chatty talking to us from clear across the room. Food was good but a turkey sandwich and fish and chips for 70.00 seemed excessive for lunch for 2. Guess we can cross this stop off our list. I will say their marketing website and advertising are good. It sure enticed us.

My chicken pot pie was wonderful and my wife's lobster roll was very good. The service was a little rushed, but better than having poor service. Walked around the first and second floors of the building and admired all the wonderful artifacts including paintings by Norman Rockwell.

Excellent food at good prices. Their clam chowder is one of the best. Very fresh ingredients - particularly the fish. The turkey dinner is excellent - I'm not a white meat person but theirs is tender and juicy. My husband had the shrimp and grits. I'm originally from Louisiana and theirs was one of the best i've tasted.

We ate at The Red Lion Inn for lunch on a Wednesday- we arrived before noon and there was quite a few parties already waiting near the hostess stand, but everyone was seated quickly and efficiently. Our server was lovely, the food came out fast, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of everything. We shared the Fish and Chips, the french dip sandwich, and one of the salads. Everything tasted fresh, the bread on the sandwich was really good as well.

The prime rib gets many negative reviews. That was not our experience. It was very good. Thick, tender and very flavorful. Had it been priced more favorably we would have been delighted. The cheddar, potato, bratwurst soup was good but not exceptional. The mashed potatoes were acceptable. The au jus was great. Obviously overpriced but that didn’t detract from a fine meal. The Auctioneer Napa Cabernet was delicious as was the finger lakes Chardonnay.

Portions were generous and the cuisine was excellent. We highly recommend the Red Lion Inn for your dining enjoyment. Everything was terrific. Kevin and Juanita Otis, MA

The Red Lion Inn dining room is a special place. Our waiter was excellent--attentive to every detail. We started with the New England Clam Chowder and the Ale-Potato-Cheddar Soup and they were both excellent. We then had the artisan bread and they were fantastic. However, we chose the turkey dinner (stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, carrot, green beans and gravy) and were disappointed with its blandness. Even the stuffing was without seasoning. We would caution you to avoid the turkey dinner, or bring your own favorite seasoning.

For entrées, we had the prime rib and turkey. Their “special” turkey turned out to be processed and was so ridiculously soft from all the msg in it as to be borderline inedible. The prime rib wasn’t bad, but was a bit tough and definitely pricey for the portion size. The vegetables were over cooked, especially the asparagus. Etc. Etc. Historic setting and good service . . . but the terrible food reminded us why we hadn’t been back in the last 10 years or so. Sadly, the Red Lion Inn may be the worst restaurant in the Berkshires.

We honestly expected our meal to be good but predictable. We were very pleasantly surprised by the bouillabaisse and the shrimp and grits, two items one wouldn’t plan to see on a traditional New England menu and delivered with exceptional taste and freshness. The availability of a nice selection of 1/2 bottles of wine was a great bonus that allowed me to have a delicious Chateau Neuf du Pape while my wife enjoyed a wonderful Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Definitely worth a repeat visit!

Old and tired. Ordered the Turkey dinner and it was horrible. The consistency was gross and I wasn’t sure if it was cooked. I found out when the waitress came over to take my hardly touched turkey the it was cooked sous vide. NOT a traditional roasted Turkey. Mashed potatoes and stuffing good, but lukewarm. Charcuterie platter came with 2 small slices of bread. Not worth the $20. Overall, a big disappointment.

We arrived 1 hour early for our dinner reservation. When I asked if we could come in the hostess was very gracious and quickly seated us. I can't say that we were blown away by our meals, but they were very tasty and the portions were adequate. My husband had the turkey dinner and I had the roasted lamb. We ate here mostly because of the history of the Inn, not expecting a suberb meal. That being said, again adequate meal. And seriously, charging for a basket of bread, even in these times - no no.

Service was a little rushed, and a little disorganised. Towards the end of the meal it felt like we were being essentially asked to leave, as we were asked about dessert mid-main-course (this was still 8.45 pm or so! For a 7.45 reservation). The bread was not fully baked inside and underwhelming (especially considering it’s charged separately from the meal). The two roasts felt like excellent canteen food in some college in England, and the Yorkshire pudding was excellent. The wine list is exceptionally good, but the food and service just didn’t match it.

Food was disappointing, particularly for the price. Nothing had a fine-dining refinement. The burrata came with few tomatoes and not yet ripe peaches. The lamb was poorly trimmed, so there was way too much fat and it hadn't rendered down to something you'd want to eat. The side of fried panisse had all the appeal of fried tofu. My wife's Season's Bounty vegetable medley was 'fine', but nothing special in any way. The dinner rolls and desert were the starts of the meal.

Beautiful restaurant. We went there for lunch and it was great.. Went for dinner, it was a different story. The waitress took our drink orders, and we asked for seperate checks (two couples). She said "I'll see what I could do" and rolled her eyes. The drinks arrived 15 minutes later. The dinners arrived and she left for parts unknown. My wifes prim rib was dry and did not come with au jus. After we asked another waitress do find ours, she finally came back and asked for some. She brought it to the table and took my gravy from my lamb and poured it into my wifes au jus UG! We ordered desert. She brought 3 coffees to the tabke' but not mine. She said she would bring it right away. She proceeded to clear two other tabled and serve water to other guests. Ten minuted later I received my coffee. Another waitress must have over heard us complaining, and she told the manager. Our waitress came back and said quite loudly, so other diners would hear- I hear you are dissatified with my service--what's the matter." We told her about the coffee, and she said " Its only coffee, WHAT EVER " and left. She was thr rudest, ill mannered, and poorly trained waitress we ever encountered. She should be working at the DMV, not a high end resteurant.

The Red Lion is so historic, that entering it feels like stepping back in time. The dining room is cozy, white tablecloths, candles, flowers, and wallpapered - so also feels very old fashioned - which we enjoyed! The menu is pretty traditional, and not very imaginative, but we had rack of lamb which was well seasoned and cooked well - the only odd thing was that it had a strange texture, a bit mushy - I don't know why. Homemade apple pie for dessert was very good too.
