Dinner was delicious. Service was excellent. The live music was an added delight
Always nice to visit the Lion. Services was wonderful.
This is a wonderful, historic place. It’s also a very family-friendly place, which in the modern era means that some parents will let their kids watch videos during dinner, which can be a little distracting if you’re hoping for a romantic night out. But if you’re cool with that, definitely dine here, it’s beautiful and has great food.
We arrived about 40 minutes early for our reservation and the hostess graciously was able to see us early. They had my favorite menu item available on their lunch menu, the French dip which is probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. The waitress was prompt, courteous and followed up with us after we got our food to make sure everything was good. We could not ask for anything more. It was an excellent experience to end a lovely day in the Berkshires
Had a delightful meal here to celebrate our 8th anniversary last night. We were pleasantly surprised to find a jazz trio playing during our meal. Sadly, they finished their last set only half way through our 8pm ressie. Everything we at was delicious. Sadly, they were out of the prime rib which was first choice but loved the shrimp bucatini dish I had instead. Also, loved the butter/sugar cake (can’t remember what they called it). The place has so much character. It had lots of old word charm from yesteryear. This place had been on my bucket list for many years and it didn’t disappoint! The best part of dining experience was when we learned that the hostess/manager of the restaurant picked up the tab for our 2 cocktails as an anniversary gift to us! What a nice gesture.
The Red Lion Inn is a landmark restaurant in Stockbridge , Massachusetts. It dates back to George Washington time . Loved the ambiance . Very expensive . Food delicious
We were seated in the courtyard and the restaurant had fans blowing because it was extremely hot that day. The employees were so attentive and I really need to emphasize that! I ordered a turkey sandwich that had cranberry mayo spread. Very dry and needed more of a creamy balancer. I asked for additional cranberry spread but still quite dry.
Noisy. But great food and great service. There were several very loud patrons and some screaming babies at 7pm. Perhaps some more sound absorbing surfaces would help.
Old fashioned Colonial American restaurant with very good set ice snd tasty food but limited menu.
Lovely in every way. Setting, service and food. We had had a late lunch, so split entrees for dinner. The restaurant was super accommodating- plating was gorgeous. All dishes were delicious. Waitress was very sweet, personal bit not intrusive.
Had heard about this place for years, and was prepared for a wonderful luncheon experience. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. Especially the food. My wife had the turkey-and-dressing sandwich. The bread wasn't fresh, the cranberry relish was almost unseen, and the dressing was a cold slab. At least the turkey seemed fine. I had the chicken pot-pie which was just okay; filled with many hard peas, one piece of carrot and one piece of parsnip; there was a fair amount of chicken, though.
No one on the staff was wearing a mask, but we were seated (unasked) with "social distancing." Discovered later that there was a patio that would afford outside seating.
We reserved last minute - only 8:45 was available. We arrived early, they had plenty of open seats and seated us immediately; then we felt rushed. We would have loved to have 7pm - 8pm reservation. Very nice personnel. Limited menu. Building and decorations are a classic throwback to earlier times.
Nice meal in a historic setting.
Ordinary at best
It’s all about the charming ambience and delicious food. The service needs improving.
A lovely place with very good food and great service.
We were very disappointed. We have been to the Red Lion previously and looked forward to returning. This time we brought family members who had never been to the restaurant. We were a party of 5 willing to spend liberally and only desired a fine meal in an elegant environment; our experience fell far short of our expectations. Appetizers were fine and were probably the highlight of the meal. When entrees arrived two separate orders of prime rib were cold. We were surprised, especially because we had been seated at 5:30 and there were very few diners in the restaurant, so there was little excuse for the kitchen not to be able to handle our order. We sent back the prime rib. When it returned to the table it was still cold. I can’t remember the last time I had to send an order back twice to a kitchen. Quite frankly there is no excuse for receiving cold food which is intended to be served hot. Three members of our party continued to eat their meal while the members of our party who ordered prime rib waited twice for the kitchen to serve hot food. This is completely unacceptable, and quite frankly shameful. At no time did a manager come to speak with us or offer an apology. Two complimentary cups of clam chowder were brought to the table which I suppose were meant to compensate for our cold prime rib; they were a poor substitute for having to send food back to the kitchen twice. There were other transgressions which hardly seem worth mentioning after the major problem of being served cold food. In all honesty it was the presence of elderly family members that led me to refrain from expressing just how dissatisfied I was with the meal.
We had an enjoyable lunch this week. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. I had the turkey sandwich which was huge. Apple pie and ice cream for dessert. We all started out with a cocktail which was lovely. Can’t wait to go back.
The atmosphere is lovely. I love sitting in an old tavern/inn and feeling very New England! The food was mediocre, definitely not bad, but not what I expected for a very well established restaurant. I think people definitely pay for the experience/atmosphere.
The experience is all about the ambience although the food was fabulous also.
What a wonderful experience at the Red Lion! Our server Darlene was attentive and friendly as soon as we were seated. She made excellent recommendations. My husband had the turkey dinner and I had the halibut. Both meals were perfect. I especially loved the corn served with the halibut. The RL is such an historic place with amazing ambiance and tradition. We truly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend!
Great location for lunch on a summer's day in the Berkshire.
Jon, our waiter, provided wonderful service. Very good meal. Easy to relax and enjoy our dinner.
This had been a must do while in the Berkshires and it was really disappointing. Our waiter never did get all we ordered to us. Won’t be back.
Superb food quality. Ingredients, presentation, and flavors cooked perfectly. some issues with service, asking for things 2 and 3 times ... server seemed a bit distracted, but recognized it and apologized to us without us saying anything. she was very pleasant and friendly. atmosphere is perfect. cozy New England style, so much history, with an intriguing collection of teapots on shelves surrounding the rooms.
We visit at least once a year and always enjoy the food service and ambiance!! Keep up the great work
Table service very slow. Food was tasty although overpriced.
We had a lovely meal and very fun timr
The food flavor was quite good, but the temperature was lukewarm at best. The service was quite slow, our server disappeared for long intervals without checking in, and was not friendly at all. Some of the slowness might be attributable to the kitchen, but our server should have kept us updated. The dining room was not crowded, and it seemed like there were other servers around. Overall quite puzzling.
Service and food were excellent. Highly recommend.
We had a delightful lunch; my Caesar salad was perfect but my friend's turkey sandwich was dry and untasty. The service was superb. We looked forward to our lunch together and had a very pleasant time. The atmosphere in the restaurant was serene. Thank you for your hospitality!
Just wonderful! It was everything and more I thought it would be. I can now check this lunch off my bucket list.
It’s an iconic place. Food has gotten much better over the years.
Very nice atmosphere good selection of food and drinks. Waiter was very good at coming back and asking if everything was OK. Only a couple of things that they could have done better. 1Had to request rolls instead of them being automatically brought to the table. 2 it was cold for July 4th and my wife had a sweater on and when we asked to change to another spot. We were told told it was reserved.
It’s a beautiful place. Service was great.
We had a great evening.
The food was at best mediocre. Roasted chicken was bland and skin not crisp. Way overpriced for what it was.
I was very disappointed in the appetizer and entree selections. Seemed very limited. What we ordered good overall. However in thus day and age it seems out of step to offer only one vegetarian entree and have it be a pasta dish. Even a historical inn Nd abs should offer more a more current menu.
Overall good but food was disappointing. Meat loaf used to be great?! Now bland with very heavy gravy. Chicken ok not great. Ice tea terrible. Great ambiance. Still love the Red Lion. Have been going there for over 30 years and will continue. Please make the food better. Thanks
My best friend brought my husband and me to the red lion inn for lunch. We had a lovely time. The food was fantastic- we had French dip, fish and chips, and salmon. Service impeccable. It’s wonderful! Not to be missed. Lots of history. Like a step back in time.
