Perfect place to catch up with friends, great food with cozy ambiance!
Good food! Proportions were surprisingly small for the price. I got the swordfish, which I enjoyed a lot and would highly recommend. However, the duck entree, while good, was very small.
Truly wonderful food - side of olives (nice option); shrimp cocktail (can order by the piece); shared a farm salad (with finely chopped vegetables) a delight; excellent large plates - linguini/shrimp scampi; surf and turf .
A memorable meal despite crowded seating. We had dined here some years ago, before downsizing of its space (last fall?) and it was ok. Stellar food now and makes up for cozy space.

A great overall experience - the Red Door is the real deal, good food at reasonable prices - well served in a quaint funky old house. What more can you ask for?
This is my third time at The Red House, and the first two times the food was slightly better but this experience was still nice. The outdoor seating on a rare 60 degree night in February was a great plus! I've only gotten small plates whenever I've gone, including the scallops, charred octopus, mussels, and pork tacos special. The scallops were missing some of the sauce this time and the mussels were lacking in white wine broth, but overall the dishes were very good. The oysters are great and a fantastic deal.
The food, service, and ambiance at the Red House were great! My girlfriend and I went for Valentine's Day dinner and were very impressed with the limited special occasion menu that they were offering. Our only complaint was that the manager-on-duty lingered very uncomfortably beside the bar the entire time we were there. Because we were seated near the bar, it was impossible not to feel like we were being watched through our entire meal. We had a great night overall, but do recommend that the manager either assist on the floor, behind the bar, or in the kitchen rather than watching diners in this extremely tiny dining room.

Not your usual Harvard Square spot but located just about smack-dab in the center of the Square, it is located in a cozy wood-frame house, the restaurant comprised of 2-rooms inside and an outside deck. There are two fireplaces to warm you in the winter and on cool evenings at other times of the year. A short menu but offering foods of a variety for different palates -- a good choice if you are not sure what restrictions your dining partner(s) have . Beer and wine drinkers will find limited but satisfying choices. Welcoming and homey, and...... the waitstaff are terrific.
The Red House was recommended to us by the concierge at the Charles Hotel and he did not steer us wrong. On Wintrop street, the restaurant was easy to walk to and is charming inside.
The lovely real wood fireplace was pleasant, our waiter helpful and attentive. My oysters were cold and briny and my son's lobster fra diavolo was spicy and delicious. I also had the lobster risotto which was quite good but could use some salt and maybe a little more sauce. I definitely would return if given the opportunity.

The vestiges of Harvard Square ambiance-past create a nice-to-visit ambiance; the food is creative with a flexible, attractive pleasantly not overwhelming, menu. The clams were fresh and fairly priced although the wooden picks offered for eating the clams were a nuisance to use and often lost the clam . . . an unfortunate economy.
I was really disappointed in the new Red House, less then a quarter of the size of the former restaurant, which has been divided up to house a medicinal legal marijuana shop as well as this new "bistro" that is really just a small extension of what used to be the bar area. The food was still tasty, but most prices seem to have increased slightly, the lobsters were smaller and less meaty, and the oysters were little flat slivers. I'm in Cambridge off-and-on for about eight weeks total across the year, and I've gone to the Red House whenever I'm in town for the last 12 years. But the restaurant I loved isn't there anymore. Along with introducing a new, more casual air, they've eliminated some surprising things. They didn't have decaffeinated coffee, for example. Students on dates might like the new place, except that the prices at dinner are probably too high for most of them. I don't think adults will enjoy it much unless they want to feel like they're crowded into a small neighborhood bar that just happens to charge full restaurant prices for bistro food. The waitperson was pleasant, well-intentioned and did her best. It might be a good place for a casual lunch. I had another dinner reservation for the Red House later this week, but I've now cancelled it, and I don't think I'll be back. If I want a bistro, I'll go to Cafe Pamplona and have a bistro meal at a bistro price.
Forget the hype. When the staff rushes to switch the menus from lunch to dinner at 4:30 when dinner starts at 5:00...hmmmm, that’s a clue. Oysters were minuscule for the price, entree the same (lamb paired with verde sauce?), inability to make a simple Mojito, etc. Go elsewhere.
Intimate setting with nice log fireplace. Menu/prices online did not match those at restaurant. Seating is tight but comfortable. Food was fine, but not outstanding. Great service.
Wonderful small place in Harvard Square without the self-consciousness of the usual spots that everyone knows about. Delicious cocktails, perfect portion sizes, and the best duck I've ever, ever eaten—tender and cooked to perfection.
The Red House was good. We had good vegetable or salad for starters and then had a vegetarian pasta. All was good, not spectacular but more than decent.
We love the Red House. Sitting by the fire during winter is so relaxing. On Tuesday we went for a few small plates. Oysters, mussels, mushrooms & cauliflower. Plus Negroni’s made for a perfect meal. Keep up the good work. You never disappoint!

Lovely location and ambiance for Christmas Eve dinner!
We were lucky enough to reserve the last table available on Christmas Eve after having spent the day sightseeing with out-of-town guests. We were seated next to the fire, which was lovely on a cold evening. When we arrived, the bartender was making a "Smoked Old Fashioned" for another customer - a drink that was not on the menu. I had one as well and it was fantastic.
Our server's recommendations were spot on, with the Lobster Carbonara and the Scampi Linguini being the group's favorites, along with the Lobster Chowder.
We had a nice chat with the host on the way out. Everyone we met was polite, friendly, and helpful.
In its slimmed down version, this is still a wonderful casual dining place. The fireplace and the small house setting make it intimate. The dollar oysters and excellent lobster and other dishes add to its appeal.
On a cold winters day we four sat by the fireplace and enjoyed a great lunch in a rustic cozy atmosphere.
My husband and I stopped her for dinner and had a table near the fireplace. The restaurant is small and cozy, we ate here in December, so their patio was not open, but it looks like a great place for an outdoor meal in warmer weather. The food was delicious and the portions were just right, not too big. Will definitely dine here again.
The renovation has significantly limited the seating but the two sitting rooms are both very cosy and comfortable. The "outside" room with heaters could be nice as well but make sure you dress for it as the enclosure is just clear plastic curtains. We have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. The menu has remained very similar with all of our favorite seafood dishes.
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday, her first time here and my second. I wanted something classy with great dishes and cocktails without completely breaking the bank, and you really can’t get a better value and dining experience in all of Cambridge in my opinion. I would recommend to any diner for any occasion. Truly my favorite spot!
On two recent lunches, there were no coffee or tea available and no explanation was given. That is unexpected and is a deficiency. Other than that omission, the exerience was very good.
Recently reconfigured space - now much smaller than before renovations, so reservations definitely recommended. Great selection of small plates as well as excellent seafood main courses. All food delicious and presentation creative. Service attentive and friendly. Simple, adequate wine list. The room with bar has a welcoming open wood fire. The only hot beverage available is warmed cider - no coffee or tea.
Met a friend for lunch. The food was ok; the texture of the black bean burger was a bit grainy, and the flavor was nothing special - it needed some zip. We had a new server who didn't have all the answers but was efficient in finding out the details. He was confused about a drink order, and he needed us to point out items on the menu and repeat our orders. He was trying his best and was pleasant, however. Drinks were good, but a bit expensive. Seating was awkward and tight.

Host is easily frazzled by simple requests, but table service was great and food excellent. The lobster chowder is a must! Many options for lobster dishes.
Had an awesome meal. The ButcherBox hamburger was incredible. The place is much smaller now that they did renovations, but the food is still incredible!
This was a sad experience. Part might be due to the fact that the restaurant had only reopened two days before, but it made us wonder why it had reopened at all. Very few tables in a cramped, low-ceiling place, no tea, coffee, iced tea, lemonade available, one choice, albeit a good one, on the dessert menu, and truly tiny portions for the main starters. Alas, we will not back.
We had reserved a table about a month before arriving to Boston for Saturday night. As we called to adjust our reservation for 2 more people, we could not reach anyone via phone or app. Further on-line research indicated they were closed for renovations.
It would have been Really good to be notified of that before being left without reservations on a prime time Saturday night.
I really place!
I made a reservation for 6 and asked for a quiet location. The restaurant gave us a dining room that was empty most of the 2 hours we were there. It was perfect, and we really appreciated their effort to accommodate my request! We had a wonderful dinner there. I started with the sriracha charred cauliflower with pistachio & black sesame seed vinaigrette, topped with peppadew peppers. It had the right amount of zing and was an intriguing blend of flavors. I had a taste of the sautéed mushrooms baked in golden phyllo, served with warm scallion-vermouth cream which were rich and flavorful.
I ordered the lobster fra diavolo, with fresh Maine lobster sautéed with spicy stewed tomatoes & garlic, served over linguini. It was a large portion with a good kick to it. The lobster meat was sweet and tender. I tried the drunken crab rigatoni with fresh crabmeat, spicy tomatoes, smoked bacon, vodka, cream & gluten-free rigatoni which was delicious. No one who ordered it needed gluten-free, and there was a little trepidation as gluten-free pasta can have a mealy texture, but this was quite good. We liked the smaller portion option, which was plenty. I gave the food 4 stars because it didn't reach the level of most amazing, but we all enjoyed our meals and would return happily.

We came at The Red House upon friends recommendations. We loved the food : sea food plates, smoked Salmon sandwich and watermelon salad. Very good and fresh. Our server has been very nice to move us once a larger table table had been available (we wanted to eat outdoor as the terrasse is great but first got a small table for 2 whereas we were 4).

Having worked near Harvard Square for 10+ years it was nice to try some place new to us. We had siracha grilled cauliflower, lobster roll & lobster risotto. ALL delicious! Outdoor seating was divine for people watching & next time I hope to take advantage of the atrium dining room. We'll definitely return!
