The Red House Restaurant
Small restaurant creates cozy dining experience. Food was very good and service was good.
The food was delicious, the staff warm and welcoming and our waitress did an excellent job of maneuvering a difficult space.
Extremely poor service but good food.
Sat at the table for almost 20 minutes before anyone even came over to acknowledge us. The server who ended up jumping in to help was amazing. However, it would have gone a long way for the manager to at least come over and apologize. Food was just ok. My fiancé got the large lobster roll for $37...it was smothered in watery mayo and was smaller than something you would get at McDonald’s...
Red House is small and bit cramped, and we had to move our table because people next to us were talking so loudly that it became unpleasant. Our server was very helpful. The food was fine but there is better food to be had at the same price point elsewhere in Harvard Sq. This may be a better place for a drink especially when their outside space is open.
The restaurant was ok, but it is overrun with mice - literally running around under the tables on the walls.
The small plates were fine, but you'll need a microscope to find anything but pasta in the drunken crab rigatoni.
Love Red House. This last visit we sat outside. It was perfect. Fabulous oysters, shrimp scampi and a refreshing glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. This little place never disappoints, rain or shine. It’s been our go to place for years after a visit to the Oberon or A.R.T.
Good experience for a quick lunch near The Square. Sat outside on a high top table and ordered the cold octopus app, beet salad, breadless chicken sandwich and tomato bread soup. All were good and we were served with 15 min.
Really enjoyed the evening. Great value especially with the $1 oysters.
Great slew of lobster entrees! What a blast! Thanks for a wonderful and relaxed evening out!
Ordered salad and Mahi-mahi. Food was delicious but we had to wait for one persons dinner because the dish had an allergic ingredient that the server was clearly told about... we we not charged but it is weird when one person at the tables eats later ...
We had a great experience at the Red House on Saturday night in Cambridge. The service, food, and atmosphere was perfect. Quite a nice selection of beverages.
The food was very good, especially the duck wings. The portion of the pasta was a little light given the price. All in all an enjoyable experience.
Wonderful place! Food was excellent! Had many of the small plates...All were delicious! Service is warm and knowledgeable! Highly recommended!
LOVE the Red House! We have dined inside and outside. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and delicious. Great place to sit and people watch while you enjoy a great meal!
A wonderful place with great service!
Excellent food. especially their lobster entrees. Very pleasant seating out on the porch though a very noisy group next to our table made it difficult to talk. I would definitely go back there again!
This was my wife's and my first visit to the Red House. On a rainy evening, we were happy to be seated inside at a table next to the wall that provided more space than most of the other tables. The big surprise came when my wife's $3 beet salad came with enough beets to feed her for days. She's still snacking on it. It was some bargain!! All of the food was delicious. The restaurant became much less appealing after all the tables filled up. People kept trying out the high top table behind me, crawling in with difficulty, and then crawling out again ... bumping my chair in the process. The noise level went from quiet to the edge of noisy pretty quickly. Consequently, I recommend coming early if you are going to dine inside. The wait staff also seemed to be stretched a bit thin, so the service was much better when the room was pretty empty. So again...go early for dinner!
My friend and I decided to get some good Italian food in Cambridge to which she mentioned Red House. I entered and it is, legit a red house very cozy, older tables, but a nice, homey feel. The food and drinks were delicious, Ioved it for my first time being there. The prices are higher for the entrees than expected and drinks are too, not worth the price for the space and drink portions, but very tasty. The server I was not fond of as he was very awkward and that made us feel the same. He did not check to see how anything was, and we had to ask to be watered; the server was nice, but he needs some work and we’d be fine with another server :-/.
The Red House has a wonderful vitality combined with excellence in cuisine and hospitality that makes it a delight. We started with a dozen Island Creek Oysters, followed by lobster carbonara for me (yum!) and crab cake sliders for Jessie. Thank you, Vincent and Molly!
I had a lovely quiet lunch here with excellent food, attentive (not over-attentive) service, and an attractive setting. Rivals the Harvest but at 2/3 the price. The Harvest's only advantage is its wine list; otherwise Red House is its equal.
went to lunch for a business meeting. was easy to hear each other, food was great and we were able to talk and didn't feel like we were getting kicked out.
the lobster risotto and lobster carbonara were both delicious!
National oyster day was a success!!!
It was great, and the food was very tasty. My friend and I really enjoyed it.
We were excited to try this restaurant but unfortunately, our food wasn't that amazing. I had the Lobster Carbonara and my husband had the Lobster Risotto. Both lacked flavor. We probably wouldn't return. Our server was very nice and we enjoyed our drinks.
A really super place. Unpretentious, excellent food and great service. Would certainly recommend. Noise level slightly too high in our first spot but we were accommodated at a quieter table when we mentioned this.
Possibly my favorite venue in Harvard square. Plates are light and delicious, the location is outstanding and feels very homey.
We went to Cambridge to see Harvard with our sons. I booked here because it was close, historical, and had favorable reviews. The food was excellent, the service was excellent. We will definitely dine here the next time we’re in the Boston area.
As always, food is delicious, service is wonderful and environment is warm and cozy.
Our romantic dinner to-go place around Harvard. Dinned twice this summer with friends. Great food, polite service and beautiful lighting at night.
Fabulous bartender who created a perfect drink after hearing my preferences! All staff were friendly and accommodating. Shrimp were so very fresh and large. We shared small plates for a light meal. Scallops were sweet, succulent, and jumbo, and the pineapple habanero salsa created an exciting flurry on the palate. Brussels sprouts were divine! Looking forward to returning, hopefully during raw bar happy hour!
Good value, friendly service and nice ambience. Nicely prepared food. Family friendly.
A tremendous dining experience. Wonderful raw oystes and shrimo cocktail to start, and then amazinf lobster roll, scallop small plate. The biggst and best surprise, though =, eas the marinated and grilled octopus with sauteed leeks. A small plate that could have been an entree. Absolutely delicious. Servise a bit slow, but wonderful ambience made up for it
Great date night spot! Beautiful outdoor patio, delicious food & well priced! We’ll definitely be back!
A completely enjoyable experience in a unique, relaxed, small setting. Nice menu, well prepared food and good service.
Could not have been more perfect.
I only had appetizers but they were delicious and really enjoyed. Was able to eat outside. During winter months the seating is limited inside
Some of the dishes are definitely overpriced and not worth
I love this place. It is crowded but still very cosy. People are very friendly. The food is pretty good. I had lobsters there and I highly recommend lobsters. They’re fresh, especially the traditionally steamed lobster. The chowder and sandwich are good as well. Love this place and would definitely come here often.
