The Red Fox Inn & Tavern
All fine food deserves to be accompanied by a perfectly suited refreshment. We showcase a vast selection of local beverages that pay homage to our extraordinary location afoot the rolling hills of Virginia’s wine country.
From intimate dinners in The Tavern to casual gatherings in The Night Fox Pub, each culinary experience is paired with a unique atmosphere and polished attendance prevails from beginning to end.
Spring Tasting Menu
We booked the restaurant and it accidentally happened to be this price fixed menu night...it was a nice selection and all tastings good, however not remarkable - we found the menu heavier than what we would of expected for Spring offerings.
Fantastic food, service, ambiance.. I will definitely be back...
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! Menu had something for every taste! Thank you!
We always enjoy this restaurant and food, but this was our first time coming on a Thursday, and the service was terrible! We felt ignored most of the time, and we had to called their attention to get service.
Great food and ambiance
Such a nice evening. They knew it was my husband’s birthday and made sure to make it special! Everything was fantastic!
Excellent food, excellent service, an all around stellar experience! We will definitely dine again!
This is a wonderful historic inn that has also got great food. We had the fried chicken (best I have ever had) and the trout. You will need reservations to be sure you can get in.
Exception food, service, and atmosphere! Highly recommended!
Lovely venue. We went on a Saturday night and it was very busy. The food was lovely, but quite expensive for what it was. The service was great!
Very attentive service, very friendly and professional. The smoked trout appetizer, while quite expensive ($26) was bountiful and delicious. Given the elevated prices ($56 for my rack of lamb), I would have appreciated table cloths covering the wooden tables. My tablemates enjoyed the Crab Cakes, but complained of the sweetness of the polenta on the plate. The Garden Salad was also too sweet for our tastes. The wines by the glass were very nice and interesting. The split of Domaine Chandon Rose was excellent. The Key Lime pie and decaf coffee were superb.
Two of us had Sunday brunch. Butternut squash wontons was a good starter for me, and The Wedge salad for my dining partner was probably the best item we had. One quibble - she requested light on the onion, but it arrived loaded.
The bigger issues were the entrees. The smoked duck hash was not a good dish. Not true hash in the sense of a breakfast item. It was instead a modest number of large cubes of smoked duck, buried in an absurd pile of roasted potato chunks, with a few peppers laying at the bottom of the dish. The individual duck and potato chunks were ok on their own, but together the dish was boring and badly unbalanced. My dining partner had the grilled ham and cheese. A huge amount of bread and a huge pile of fries made for a carb bomb. The sandwich was tasty, however, even though the fries were nothing special.
Nice setting. Service was solid and friendly, although we had to flag someone down to get our check.
because we were celebrating birthdays, a couple people commented disappointment that a complimentary piece of birthday cake wasn't sent to our table from the restaurant.
Great service and very tasty meal. Our waiter was very attentive! We requested a table close to the fireplace and it was perfect!
fast friendly service-- no rush. We really enjoy the The Red Fox
Food was great as always. It’s becoming my family’s favorite destination for special meals. The combination of comfort food and high class restaurant make it a great choice.
Great restaurant. Great food. Great service. We would highly recommend
Anniversary dinner. Great experience the drinks were over priced for sure. The quality of the food was outstanding. Would definitely go back. Just not often because of the cost.
We'd been there several times over the years. We were surprised to see how expensive it has become. We must say though the food was very good. Service was good and the ambiance is always outstanding. So it's probably worth the price but it is expensive.
This is one our favorite places to eat! They have amazing food, great service an a relaxing atmosphere. For what you get it’s well worth the price. I highly recommend it.
One of the best dining experiences I have had. Hats off to the chef, cooking staff and the wait staff! The food was absolutely wonderful.
We recently celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary at The Red Fox Inn. We had a wonderful experience. The food, service and ambience was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Super accommodating- great service ( although the initial contact took awhile).
An incredible and memorable meal on every level. Oyster Rockefeller. Beat salad. Lobster and crab. Sancerre.
Amazing ambiance + perfect service = very happy valentines.
The food was exquisite. The ambiance was romantic and quiet. Service was prompt and courteous. An overall excellent experience, worthy of special occasions.
Brunch was wonderful. Food was good. The butternut wontons are fabulous. A little more seasoning in the grits and omelet would be wonderful.
Amazing food and cozy comfortable atmosphere!
I have been to the Red Fox a few times over the years and it remains one of my favorite places to eat in Middleburg. This time I brought my kids (7 and almost 5) as well. I was a little nervous to bring them to a more fine dining place, but the wait staff couldn't have been more wonderful and my little foodies enjoyed every bite. The food and service were top-rate (as per all of my previous experiences) and I plan to continue visiting when I am in town.
Simply put, the best meal I have ever had. It was incredible. The ambiance of the restaurant was very warm and inviting. The meal is definitely for a special occasion.
We had a truly amazing night at the Red Fox Inn. here were four of us for dinner and
.every thing we ordered was creatively designed and expertly prepared
We had the pear crostini and the Brie and fig flatbread appetizers both of which were scrumptious, every morsel was devoured. Our Entrees were equally well prepared (and equally demolished!) The wine list was interesting and we enjoyed a lovely bottle of Merlot. We were in the small back room of the tavern, very cozy with a lovely fire going The service was attentive but not intrusive. We highly recommend dining at the Red Fox Inn! .
We had a very nice dinner experience at the Red Fox Inn; the ambiance was quiet, relaxing and comfortable. The food was well prepared, but I do not recommend the steak. One of the specials was a 16oz rib eye and there is a 16oz, bone in rib eye on the menu. Our waiter’s description of the difference was not very helpful; it was sliced too thin for my liking. HadI looked at both cuts, I probably would have ordered another dish and been very satisfied.
Yummy food. Great service.
Great food and setting. Attentive and friendly service.
We have a long history at the Red Fox Inn. It NEVER disappoints. If you've never been, you owe it to yourself to go and experience its charm, excellent food, and attentive staff.
Not impressed by the service or price
We love the Red Fox Inn and have been going there for over 40 years. However, the prices have gone up quite a bit and we no longer feel the drive (as beautiful as it is out there) is worth the cost Eggs $23 - Chicken $26 - they need to revisit the pricing.
We had a delightful brunch. It did surprise me that no attention was given to the birthday occasion.
My husband and I received a gift card from a family member to stay at the Inn and we decided to have dinner there as well. The meal was fantastic and we were very pleased with the service as well. We highly recommend the Inn and the Tavern. We will be going back for sure.
Always a treat; cozy atmosphere
Great experience, and we have already booked another visit!!!
