We have been guests of the Red Fox Inn many times over the years and have never been disappointed.
When any venue of this type looks so tranquil, smooth running and lovely-there is only one way it occurs and that is thru a team of very hard working people.
Excellent meal with GREAT service. Did set 4 course meal with wine pairing. Couldn't have been better. Will be back.
The Red Fox is a beautiful, historic inn. We had brunch with company from out of state. The menu was varied and interesting and the Red Fox offers a wide variety of wines and cocktails. The service was wonderful—attentive but not cloying. We appreciated the written history of the Inn on the wine menu. It’s a great place—HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
My husband and I recently celebrated our first year anniversary. I wanted to make the night super special and memorable for both of us. Days prior to our anniversary I reached out to the Inn, I was put in touch with Amanda (events coordinator) and she was beyond perfect. Amanda helped me choose a bottle of champagne and gave me the number for a local florist who was able to recreate the floral arrangement from our wedding.
From the time we arrived for dinner, the staff was nothing but warm and friendly. I could tell that they were excited to help us celebrate our first anniversary. Everything was perfect from the champagne all the way down the the desert.
The Inn is a very magical place and I am so glad that they met the expectations for such a special occasion.
We went to the red fox inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My husband ordered the steak and fries but they had run out (at 6:15pm) which was kind of odd but forced him to get something out of his comfort zone. So he got the trout and loved it. We also sat upstairs and loved the vibe.
Great dinner and great atmosphere
The setting and meal were just right for a beautiful fall day, we'll go again.
The Red Fox is always a wonderful experience. For anyone who has never visited the Middleburg Village, the Red Fox is a must. The Autumn Tasting Experience was as excellent as expected. The selections from this four-course experience were varied and typical of the season in the Virginia hunt country. We dined on halibut and beef. Both were perfectly prepared and served with sides that perfectly complemented the entree. Our server, Alex, provide a level of service I've come to expect from the Red Fox. He was personable, conversational, experienced and knowledgable of both menu and wines. Alex was definitely part of our wonderful dining experience. We will return!
Out 1st visit & we were so impressed by this quaint, historic inn & Tavern. Although we did not overnight...we fell in love with the restaurant & friendly, attentive servers.
A MUST visit for a date trip in the Md,Va, D.C. area...or a special weekend overnight getaway. Upper level Tavern & private dining rooms are so inviting. Access from 2nd floor to gorgeous patio & parking.
Overall - simply fabulous!
Where else would you prefer to dine in the charming town of Middleburg? The Red Fox is a classic dining experience, starting with the genuine stone structure, painted white to brighten the dining area, with integrating wooden beams, and antique bar and furnishings. The omelettes at brunch are fantastic, and the wait staff are all pleasant and professional...
The fox is delicious and the service is on point. I love this place b/c it’s in Middleburg and the restaurant is so comfy and cozy. The multiple fireplaces gives it a romantic feel.
Superb atmosphere, historically perfect. Very good food, a decent value for the price.
The Fall tasting menu was perfect. There were many choices and something for everyone! The wait staff was very accommodating for a party of four adults and two babies. The perfect Fall day includes a stroll through Middleburg and dinner at the Red Fox Inn.
Dakota was an excellent waiter--professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. The pork chop entree was delicious with an excellent chutney and sides. Thank you!
Wonderful old inn with great ambiance, food & service
The food was delicious and the ambience was delightful! Our waiter was attentive. A wonderful experience!
We celebrated a birthday with the fall tasting menu. Everything was amazing, as always.
Wonderful prix fixe menu. Delicious preparations
We totally enjoyed our special birthday dinner at The Red Fox Inn and Tavern. Our server, Brennan was very attentive, informative and charming. The service was impeccable and the food outstanding. We loved the Autumn tasting menu and the restaurant was flexible on how one could order via this special menu. Everything was delicious and we were in heaven sitting by the fire in the oldest continuously operating Tavern in the USA. It is a very special experience and we would highly recommend it for others.
An early evening of excellent service and a great food! The Fox has upped its game since our last visit several months ago. Highly recommended.
We love the Red Fox Inn! The space is charming, cozy and rich with history. The food is always great and we have experienced nothing but excellent service. I may regret saying all this because sometimes very difficult to get a reservation! Please don’t spread the word about this charming, special spot.
We ate at The Red Fox Inn Tavern in October 2018, and had an excellent meal. The Seared Duck Breast was one of the best duck dishes I have ever had. Friends subsequently ate at the Tavern and were very disappointed, commenting that the fried chicken was very dry and other dishes mediocre. We decided to try it again this month. The service was very good, but the duck flavor from before was not there, and the pork chop was dry. We will not return.
This was our first visit to the Red Fox Tavern. We stayed the night in the Inn, so naturally wanted to check out the tavern. The tavern is on the lower level of the Inn and it extremely charming and full of history. We loved the room was sectioned off so that the noise level stayed fairly low and there was no echoing. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and the food was really good. We also had breakfast the next morning which was delicious. Their coffee is SO good!!
We told the waitress that we were not in a hurry and to pace the food prep accordingly. The request seemed not to have reached the kitchen and serving staff. Salads were served before the first sip of cocktails but yet the fish entrees appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp as they were dry and sseemingly overcooked. We haved dined here numerous times over the past seven years and always enjoyed their halibut dishes. Going forward, we will inform the waitress when we are ready for a salad and when to fire up the entrees. We realize that the manager and staff will come and go but we will always come back again.
Great food and great atmosphere as always.
There was a special 4 course tasting menu. It was great especially nice because it was paired with Virginia wines. We come from California and wouldn’t have known what order to drink.
Our favorite place to have brunch. Outstanding french toast, lamb sausage and blood mary. Great, prompt, and very friendly service. Atmosphere is great but get a table in the back room or on the patio where it's a bit quieter.
For Sunday Brunch we took our visiting Indiana relatives to The Red Fox for fried chicken, mac and cheese, sausage biscuit and gravy, and those delicious pastries. Absolutely wonderful!
Celebrated our 10 yr wedding anniversary and ordered a very nice and expensive bottle of wine to accompany our meal. We were charged for all 4 courses of the preset menu when we only did 3 courses and no special dessert or treat or effort was made to help mark our special occasion. We are both Loudoun natives and chose red fox because we love it and wanted to celebrate there. This visit missed the mark for sure and what a bummer as it was a very special and kid free weekend for us!
Absolutely outstanding in every way. The restaurant is beautiful and historic. The food was phenomenal. The wait staff was fantastic. We had a person in our group with Celiac and the staff was extremely knowledgeable and able to offer safe options and we had no problems. There was also a toddler in our group and they were kind and excellent with him. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Highly recommend.
Excellent food and service in an old town atmosphere. Very pleasant.
Lovely restaurant. Food and service was wonderful.
Would I recommend?? I guess, as there aren't that many other fine dining establishments in Middleburg. I was really surprised, though, that this restaurant was #1 in town. The food was good, but nothing special. I had the duck and my husband had the short ribs. The best part of the dinner, food-wise, was the roasted pear crostini. The venue is lovely, definitely a hunt country tavern. The really best part of the evening was our server, Ben.
Wonderful experience. After 45 years still the greatest.
Overall a very nice outing bit a bit pricey.
Excellent all around especially Sam our waiter. Looking forward to our next visit.
Food was only moderately good. I expected more from such a landmark establishment. Service was better than average. Ambiance was superb.
Red Fox Inn had great food. You are paying for the name but the food was excellent, flatbread, meatballs, wedge salad, date and toasted almond salad, salmon, duck and blackened tuna were all well prepared and excellent. I dont usually say this about food because I find fault with most dishes. I couldn’t do this here.
Great ambiance. Less than professional service, but waiter was young. Food was excellent. Fried chicken the BEST ever.
