This was a birthday dinner with my significant other and his son. The food and drinks were delicious. The service was good. The owner-chef came out a couple of times and discussed the menu and checked on us. We requested eating outside, on Washington Street and the ambience was almost like a European bistro. Would dine again.
One of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time! Meeting the owner/chef, Luciano, was a treat! The entire staff was gracious, hospitable, and definitely on target with every aspect. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I strongly recommend the risotto with beef - quite a surprising treat! I split this with my son along with chicken marsala. A perfect combination! We will definitely be returning.
Great service and food. Caring chef and staff.
The best Italian in San Diego. Forget Little Italy.
Outstanding food. Lovely service. What a treat to get to chat with the owner. Thank you for a sweet experience for my mom's 80 plus birthday. Plus! The dog got a meatball!
Great tasting food with good sized portions. Will definitely be coming back here again the next time we are in SD.
Enjoyed a delicious farm to table meal while visiting San Diego. Ordered the brussels sprouts as a starter and perfectly cooked salmon with crispy skin and sautéed vegetables and a pasta dish. Every bite was a flavor explosion.
Great food, great atmosphere, great experience.
Fantastic service and incredible food
My husband and I love The Red Door. The chef owner is absolutely wonderful, welcoming and quite talented. Every entree is delicious and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for! We dine at The Red Door quite often and you should, too.
Our new favorite Farm to Table dining when visiting San Diego. So deliciously flavorful, creative dishes, outstanding service from Ryan, personal visit from Chef Owner Luciano. I especially appreciated how kind, respectful, and skilled they were at preparing outstanding food given my many food allergies.
Excellent food and owner/chef was super welcoming!
Thanks Chef Luciano, me and my friends had a great night, food was wonderful!!! Being a foodie person I like to visit different restaurants in SD.
However I always come back to places like Red Door where food is spectacularly served.
My family and I ate at The Red Door for my mom's birthday and the food was delicious! The Lobster Raviloi was highly rated and although it wasn't on the menu that evening, the chef still made the dish for us :) The Seafood Fetuccine was also excellent! We had an amazing customer experience and the home decor made the restaurant very cozy! We will definitely be eating here again when we're back in SD.
Awesome experience every time. We will definitely be back to try more delicious items
The food was amazing but the specials list was unreal. We will be back without a doubt 🙌🏻
Great experience! Luciano, the chef and owner personally came out and told us about the menu. It was really nice to feel special. The best part was he does this for all of his guests. Food was excellent and service was great. Definitely a go to whenever in San Diego.
Our first visit here, and we were very pleasantly greeted by the Chef/Owner himself. The entire staff were very friendly and receptive to our needs. The environment allowed guests to feel safe and socially distanced. The food overall was delicious! We needed a getaway, and our evening there was the perfect experience!
Great place, relaxed atmosphere and the head chef/owner greeted every table personally and made small talk. Food and drinks were delicious! Cannot recommend this place enough!
Incredible food and service. The pasta was amazing. Will definitely come again!
Overall a great experience! There were a lot of flies with the outdoor dining and service was a bit slow at first, but I would go back. Great wines!
The Red Door was an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We asked for their personal opinions on many of the dishes, and we weren't disappointed. The chef/owner, Luciano, came and spoke with his guests at each table. Such a kind man! The atmosphere was perfect for being able to have a great conversion and enjoy our time together. I feel that quite a lot of time and thought went into curating the menu. We started with an order of the clams and an order of the muscles. Both were amazing, but the clams were phenomenal! Their pasta dishes are some of the best I have ever had. We came looking for a new food adventure, and we found one! We will most certainly be back to try their other dishes.
Great lunch with a friend. Food was excellent and service outstanding.
Always excellent service and food!
Greeted by the Chef and owner Luciano - what a great experience! Safe dining experience with cutlery all brought to table in bags, social distanced indoor and outdoor tables. Luciano shops daily for local vegetables and fish. I had the steak - wow!!! Perfect! A European experience locally. Will be back for sure! Thanks you Luciano
Went to The Red Door for a little date night, and the server and staff were all fantastic. Great attitude, service, and recommendations without being too intrusive or anything. The chef, Luciano came out to chat with us about some of the food and how he prepared it as well which was fun to hear about.
The food was amazing and we will be coming back! The chef and owner makes everything from scratch and shops daily for his ingredients. Everything was delicious.
Excellent service and food. It was very nice that Chef owner Luciano Cibelli introduced himself at our table and actually gave us the recommendations and explanations of the menu. Our waitress made an excellent wine recommendation and was knowledgeable about the menu. The flat bread was excellent, the braised short ribs were so tender and flavorful and the risotto tasted just like truffle and the ricotta cheesecake was absolutely wonderful and perfectly sweet. What a perfect meal. The only thing I can be particular about was one of the wait staff that had bleached hair and an appearance which contrasted with the theme and ambiance of the restaurant. The music was at the perfect volume but the motown playlist didn't quite match the theme. Perhaps some classic Italian music would be better. Some nice uniforms for the wait staff would also be a nice improvement. On the culinary side, some balsamic vinegrete would be a superb option to add to the flat bread. We will definitely be back! Thank you Luciano.
Red Door was a nice dining experience, with good Italian food, quality value priced wine and personalized service.
I’ll be putting it in my restaurant rotation.
Special place thanks to the excellent food (worth the price) and personalized service by the chef owner. One of our favorites!
Everybody was very nice, and even the chef came to say hello and tell us about the special specials for that night, the food was OK but not as I good as we expected...
Outstanding food and service, super fresh ingredients!
Amazing service per usual!
We’ve been dining here for over 5 years, and there’s a reason for that - Chef Cibelli and his team have created a truly special place.
The menu is dynamic and ranges from the rustic to the exquisite. One of perhaps three restaurants I’ve ever frequented that does meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes ALL exceptionally well.
On weeknights, we like to go with an adventurous assortment of starters and small plates, and try our hand at building our own wine pairing - their wine list is smaller but very interesting!
Their specials are always exciting and when we’re doing entrees we’ll usually go with one of those - but the beef Wellington is one of my go-to dishes! Definitely a must-try. We can’t wait to see what they’re going to bring for autumn dishes (hoping for venison and plenty of squash & pumpkin).
You’ll see Chef Cibelli walking around and talking with his guests, don’t be surprised if he stops by to fill your wine glass and ask your opinions. All of the staff is fantastic.
Even with moving their dining experience outdoors, everything was great. While we really enjoy grabbing a cozy table inside by the bay window, the sidewalk dining actually adds to the experience in my opinion.
When we go here we truly do feel at home.
Owner was very personable and visited all the patrons to make sure everything was okay. The risotto and beef Wellington were delicious!
Great food and service. We loved Brussels with bacon and butternut Brie cheese!
Very good food and very cool staff!
We happened to stumble on this Resturant and I’m so happy we did. The outside seating was around the Resturant it’s self. Due to Covid that’s how things have to be. Actually, it was pretty nice of an evening. So it was perfect being outside. We were greeted rite away and asked multi times had we been helped and I felt that was wonderful service. Our server took us to our table after i watched them wipe it down very well. Once seated The chief owner came by after talking to the table next to ours, he came over and explained the specials for today. We had first course calamari and kale chips. It was cook just rite for what we like. The server recommend the bone marrow ,he said it is amazing. Our two main courses we picked: the filet with a side and seafood fettuccine with squid ink noodles. The filet with a side, I picked veggies for my side instead of the starch potatoes and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Not over cooked and seasoned so well i needed nothing else on them. The filet was medium and was like butter when you cut Into it. The seafood dish was made with black squid noodles, homemade. The noodles were black! Something different. The broth on this dish was so tasty. All the desserts are made in house and looked so tantalizing. We picked cocoa truffles. They melted in your mouth with the homemade whip cream. We kept seeing the banana cream pie comeout. I can’t wait to come back and try the other items on the menu.
I recommend this location.
We loved visiting the Red Door for date night! Making a reservation was easy, and the service was awesome. The chef came out to visit each table and checked in - it was a nice touch.
Street parking only. Reservations highly recommended. Arrived on time for our 6pm reservation, no waiting, table was ready. Due to COVID 19 only outside tables available. Very limited seating along the outside of the building, no awning or shade over tables. Prompt service. Full bar. Our waiter, Mario provided excellent service. Very good entree selection. The restaurant owner and chef, Luciano Cibelli, stopped by our table to welcome us to his establishment. Very pleasant evening with excellent service and gourmet entrees. Highly recommended.
