Love the food and the place!!! Everything was delicious! Ready to come back
This Italian jewel on West Washington Street in Mission Hills continues to impress me. Two couples went for dinner recently, requesting outside seating. Food and drink were excellent, as always, and the owner, Luciano, attended each table with his menu favorites.
We were impressed with our first meal at the Red Door Monday night. I chose the restaurant based on its reviews and for being described as “romantic”. Although romantic was a bit of a stretch the food was divine and the drinks creative and well balanced. The owner/chef Luciano came out and introduced himself to us and offered good recommendations for our meal. My husband had the beef Wellington which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the short ribs with polenta, both of which were prepared perfectly. One real highlight was the beet and burrata salad that we had for a starter. The cheese was rich yet delicate and balanced perfectly with the tang of the beets. This was our first time to the Red Door but it won’t be our last.
Chef came around to the tables to introduce himself and be sure all guests had a pleasant dining experience. Food and service were impeccable! Highly recommend
First time and great experience, will definitely coming back
Exceeded our expectations. Both had beef Wellington and it was perfect... my only complaint was the veggies were a bit salty for my taste. Love the calamari and kale app. Chef checked in on us to chat and make sure everything was to our liking. Will definitely go back and sample the menu. Highly recommend.
What a great experience. The owner who is also the chef came out personally to great us. What a professional that made us feel special thank you chef. Also the service and staff kind and friendly. Definitely going back.👍👍
Everything was great, food and service. Only thing was we had to sit outside on the sidewalk because of COVID restrictions. Otherwise everything was great.
I forgot our waiters name but he was informative. Since we are not from SD he gave us suggestions on where to go around the area.
The food was delicious. It was the first time trying the Beef Wellington and I would definitely get it again. My husband had the lamb that was cooked to perfection. My girls tried the eggplant lasagna and the short ribs. They ate all the lasagna but the short ribs with the polenta needed something.
But overall service was great and the food was amazing.
Went for my birthday for the first time in a year and it lived up to every expectation. The food was as delicious as ever, service was fantastic, everything felt safe and precautions taken. It was a lovely evening out and an amazing dinner at a special place. Can’t wait to start going back more often!
I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The flatbread is the best starter ever. The chef/owner always stops by to see how you're doing. The food is incredibly delicious
Great food and service!
We love the Red Door! We've always had the best service and the food is outstanding.
Fabulous food and top notch service!! Great dinner spot, good for small groups and couples.
Enjoying trying out restaurants that are farm to table. The owner/chef made the experience personable by greeting us at our table, telling us about the restaurant and food options of which there are many to satisfy vegetarians, carnivores and pescatarians. Excellent food and service!
My first Beef Wellington and it was amazing. Owner stops by and introduces himself and makes sure you are well taken care of.
It was very fun! I love how it feels like you’re inside someone’s house. The chef talks to every table and that really adds to the wonderful experience.
Great food and very professional service, combined with a wide variety of delicious libations. Who could ask for more?
Best lasagna I’ve had in 30 years.
Such a good meal! Server and chef were very attentive and gracious. Food was delicious - the pasta is handmade and the ingredients are local and fresh. A good go to Italian restaurant outside of Little Italy.
We really enjoyed our time at the red door. The food and drinks were excellent.
The experience my friend and I had Saturday 3/27 for my birthday was splendid. The food and cocktails were spot on. We ordered the Blue Smoke martini, she had pasta, and I eggplant parm. We started with the butternut brie appetizer. All were outstanding. The servers were warm and attentive, and the chef himself came out to greet and tell us about his menu. I certainly recommend Red Door.
We had a party of 6 and had an excellent experience. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable about wines and entrees. The chef/owner came out several times to check on us and make recommendations. The food was prepared perfectly and was delicious. The portions were incredibly generous. We will definitely be back soon
The food and service was exceptional. The chef and owner stopped by each and every table. The birthday truffle dessert was probably one of the most delicious dishes I have ever had. It will not disappoint. We will be going back!
Excellent quality Italian cuisine in Mission Hills. We dined outdoors, had excellent service, a visit from the chef and owner, and enjoyed every dish (salad, pasta and dessert) brought to us. Cocktail (Golden Eye) was great too, and the wine recommendations from the server worked perfectly. A bit expensive for frequent visits, but a great place for a special meal. We'll be back.
A delicious dinner, as always, and such nice, attentive service. I always enjoy dining there.
Perfection as always. Impeccable service.
The food is spectacular.
Enjoyed dining with friends. Great evening.
It's hard to describe my experience at The Red Door because it was beautiful, warm, welcoming, and somehow emotionally relieving. I think for the first time during the pandemic, I felt genuinely happy while also safe when eating out. It felt like for one evening, my fiancé and I got to just enjoy life over good food and even better service. It felt like the world stopped and we got to live presently without the heaviness of the world. Our waitress was probably the best waitress we've ever had. It felt like she could anticipate our every need without being overbearing or invasive. The kindness was just pure.
The food tasted like what love feels like. It probably sounds crazy, but it's truly how we felt. We left with stomachs full of amazing food and hearts full of joy. It felt like being home in the best ways.
I can't recommend another restaurant more than I can this one. The owner/chef even came out and talked to various tables. His energy just radiated a warmth I've never experienced from someone I didn't already know. The owner/chef's energy is strongly felt through every little detail of the restaurant and it's pure magic. We will be back without a doubt.
The chef came to our table and Everton was beyond accommodating and kind. The food was unbelievable and there’s really a selection for every type of diet
Superb service. Excellent timing on everything: Enough check-ins without getting in the way of our family time (it was my birthday celebration). Our pre-teen daughters felt like they were treated with respect and kindness and we all enjoyed every minute. Even the chef/ owner, Luciano came out a few times to tell us about the specials and to check in on us again. We ordered lots of different dishes, and everything was excellent. My favorite was the lobster ravioli with creamy tomato vodka sauce as well as the mushroom risotto. My husband loved the flat bread and couldn't stop eating. My older daughter went to heaven with the beef wellington (She literally said "Now my life is complete."). My younger one, who is very honest and finicky, loved everything, including the calamari which she said was "the tenderest calamari of my life. I now know why you guys love calamari."
I cannot wait to go back. Thank you all for making my birthday so special!
Absolutely Marvellous! Excellent food! It was a real poem. Every single choice from the menu is going to make you happy! Their service is outstanding. For sure, one of the best restaurants in town!

Our server Anthony was great, pretty chill vibe and mellow feels. Definitely a place to get together with amigos. Great food!
Ignored us/wouldn't seat us for 15+ minutes after arriving for our reservation
It was our 1 year Anniversary. We arrived to our reservation a few minutes last our time . We had to wait out in the cold for about 15 minutes . Service was a little slow but the food was delicious . Ambiance was calm and reserved .
First time for my fiancé and I here. One of a select few places now offering indoor dining with certain covid precautions in place. We got to meet the Owner and Head Chef, Luciano C. As he made his rounds throughout the evening. Nice guy and provided some of his recommendations from the menu. I don’t believe he was doing any or much of the cooking...unfortunately.
Nice little spot, casual ambiance, but it was loud and our table was near the entrance/exit so lots of foot traffic.
Wasn’t as cozy as we would’ve liked. But again, first time visit so our expectations were perhaps slightly misplaced.
Food was good, not great. Not worth the price in our honest opinion. She had the fresh catch, Corvina (Sea Bass). Slightly over cooked and lacked the moisture you might expect.
I had the short ribs and polenta. SR were very tender with good bbq flavor, but were easily diluted by the very plain/bland polenta. Pretty underwhelmed by it actually. I’ve made this at home and used a nice aged sharp cheddar in the polenta and it has that tangy sharpness to compliment the sweet bbq sauce. Bummer.
It wasn’t a total disappointment but wasn’t worth what we spent. Cheers.
Everything we had was tasty can not go wrong with what you order.
Awesome place. Wonderful food, attentive staff. Chef Luciano warm and friendly. Makes you feel at home.
My husband and I went to celebrate our Anniversary, and the outdoor area was so cute and plenty of space between tables to feel safe. Service and food was amazing as always. cant wait to go back again :)
Great staff. Great food.
