The Raymond Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The Raymond is the perfect spot for a business brunch on Sunday mornings. We can eat outside. We can hear each other. The food is very good. The service is very good. The prices are reasonable. Plus, food, service, etc., are reliable. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Their valet is $5, the ambiance inside was dark and a bit uncomfortable. I think their outside seating was better. The service and food was extremely slow. The servers appeared new and untrained. A server spilled water all over the floor, another server brought me a WARM mimosa. There were only one restroom for men and one for women so the line can get long. Other than that, the food was delicious and generous portion.
Been coming here for a few years and perhaps its just a fluke but this was definitely the least memorable meal. Also it was restaurant week so maybe just a busy & burned out week for the kitchen. Still, for the price this should have been much better.
The menu has been changed up and I'm not sold on the new additions. Trying to add in more Asian flavors to the menu sort of seems disjointed. We ordered sticky potatoes (meh, flavor gets lost in the starchiness of soft potatoes), cauliflower (pretty good!), hangar steak (ehh, not memorable) and salmon (overcooked). Drinks were good, as they usually are. For the price (240 with tip - incl. 2 drinks, no desert) it was pretty underwhelming. I've had meals here where every single thing is excellent. Service is always really good.
Lovely back patio - quiet and comfortable -- great for friends catching up. Not crowded. Easy parking.
Edible food - nothing special for brunch (spinach salad and Huevos Montuleños-scrambled eggs, beans, tortillas).
Minimal service - pleasant - but seldom there to refill water or check on status.
Excellent everything! I’ve been to the Raymond for years and it’s always consistently good -food, service, and ambience. We sat in dining room and ate most of the vegetarian / roasted vegetable options family style. It was delicious. Wish we had ordered dessert! We will be back!
As always, this place did not disappoint. We come here for special occasions, usually anniversary dinners. This is where we got engaged 10 years ago and so it holds a special place in our hearts. The food was amazing (get the marrow) and the service was the perfect balance of attentiveness and privacy. They brought us champagne to start the meal since it was our anniversary and took such great care of us. Can't wait to go back.
The Raymond is one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions or any time we just want to feel beautifully spoiled. It is one of my all time favorite brunch places, the dinner menu is delightful, and the 1886 bar serves some of the best cocktails in the area, hands down. Service is always excellent, and the ambience of the converted house and patios is warm and lovely.
This weekend we took my parents for a late Christmas brunch and now they are just as smitten as I am. Suggestion: Start by sharing the apple fritters with your coffee while you're making final menu decisions. They are delicious! Other standouts from the visit include the chedder herb griddle cakes, chorizo and eggs, and the vanilla brioche french toast with homemade sausage.
This was my wife's birthday, so I made reservations weeks in advance. At first, I did not want valet parking, but as we drove along Fairoaks, there was no parking. We were fortunate to get the last valet spot for the evening, as our other guests parked across the street. Our waiter was responsive and knew how to monitor our status. The food was exceptionally good, with the temperature just right. For dessert, we brought our own cake in, which they will allow you to do at either $3/person cutting fee, or we cut the cake ourselves. I opted to bring plates and forks, so it was easily handled with no fuss. My wife enjoyed her birthday...
The cooking is experimental but without a skill. Just pretty poor cooking. The service was very good. The place itself is run down and with cheap decorations. Far away from the well kept place from 1996 I remember. Please understand - this review is not frivolous - the food is not good. It definitely needs vast improvement.
Whether you're looking for a brunch on Sat/Sun, or a nice cozy lunch, a special cocktail, a fabulous meal, the Raymond and Bar 1886 is your one stop restaurant for all occasions and everyday dining. Nothing beats their happy hour from 5-7 Tues-Fri, half off all food and amazing cocktails and will have you craving for more. Tonight we had dinner with friends and we couldn't help but notice how beautiful the setting was, especially with the holiday decor. We started off with Mikey's pickles and onion rings, before moving on to the delicious Hangar steak and mouth watering scallops. I've been here too many times, and each visit has been extra special. Worth a trip out to this restaurant on all counts!
The Raymond is trying hard to strike a balance between traditional and hip. It's a work in progress. I have been a patron for decades and the food is better than ever and the vibe is much more energetic -- in a good way. The tipping point, however, is upon them and my hope is that TR does not slide into another metro cliché of being randomly trendy "scene." Charm should always remain the high card.
I have loved this restaurant since I moved to Pasadena in the early 80s. Recently, I had a friend visiting from Sacramento and she loved the Restaurant. However, she was pretty shocked that we were charged $25.00 for the corkage fee as she has never experience this high charge. It practically ruined our evening. I would never bring wine for our dinner.
Thank you, Yoland
Meh! Have been here several times, mainly for brunch. This time we came for dinner and it was strictly okay. They dinner offerings are somewhat limited. I ordered their layered pasta and beef dish which is neither a pasta or beef dish. It appears to be bits of beef prepare in a stew sauce with vegetables and pieces of pasta the size of wafers. Odd, skimpy, and perhaps not the best choice. Moreover, the service was definitely lacking. We waited interminably for our food. We also had to ask an attendant to please find our waiter since we wished to order dessert and we hadn’t seen him in a half hour. All in all, it was okay.
We arrived and our reservation was acknowledged. We were seated on the patio and waited probably 15 minutes or water and a waiter. We ordered salads and a quiche and waited another 25 minutes, when we were told that a kitchen mishap had occurred and we could not have the quiche. No problem, salads were served and were very tasty. We waited longer and this was even acknowledged, as they took the drinks ordered off our bill. I love this place, but it is too
stressfull, unless you have all day.
Food was very mediocre - ranging from tasteless to inedible (too salty/spicy) and the service was mediocre as well - very slow. But we did receive a credit for our starters because the service was so slow. Also, cocktails were super expensive - $14 for a Bloody Mary!
Menu is strange, overpriced and highly untraditional with no outstanding items. However, the service and atmosphere was wonderful. The restaurant host was extremely helpful and accommodating and all the front of house staff were wonderful. Unfortunately we will not be going back.
We had reservations, but we were seated in the entryway - a small noisy room by the bathrooms with no charm. The food was good with nice presentation. I suggest requesting a patio table when making the reservation. It was our first visit so we didn't know to try that. Cappacinnos were cold and our waiter argued they were not, but eventually he brought us fresh hot ones, but turns out they were not the decaf we ordered even tho he assured us they were. I think with a different table location on one of the patios and a different server it would have been very nice. Valet was full, but had no problem parking close by on the street. Lots of nice places to choose from nearby, so doubt we'll go back.
While we ate lunch there on an exceptionally hot day, the outside patio was reasonably comfortable with the roof, drop-down shades and greenery. However, we did notice how good the air conditioning felt inside when using the restrooms. Having the inside fireplace going along with the air conditioning created a nice ambiance and made it a truly California experience!
Fun place with good food and GREAT friendly, helpful, and proactive staff.
The Outdoor seating is much less noisy than inside and has a very nice ambience.
TOP feature was our WONDERFUL server - Kristina! She greatly exceeded even high expectations - know what we wanted/needed before we did!
Great hostess also who even remembered my favorite patio table (next to the fountain).
You can always count on the Raymond to have delicious food, a cute relaxed quiet ambiance, and delicious cocktails. Its great for brunch or drinks. I recommend the bruleed grapefruit, the dutch baby, the french toast and sausage, and Ramos Fizz. I admit I don't love the apple fritters, as I find them to be a bit bland. Excellent service and multiple outdoor dining spaces make for a fun dining experience regardless of the time of day.
The patio was lovely. Service was excellent and attentive. The Brunch was absolutely amazing. I don’t know how they make their eggs so fluffy and delicious. I had the avocado omelette and my husband had the French toast. We shared bites of each other’s dish. Both were excellent!
